Paying a little bit more to get him earlier may be worth it, Özil would be eligible to play in the Champions League for us. Don't think it'll happen in Jan though, Wenger has a fighting chance at Top 4 and their season would be over if they get rid of him without replacing.

Ozil, Mkhitaryan and Mata with Herrera in midfield and Lukaku upfront will surely make us the shadow team (ie players will vanish for most of the game)

Yes because Mkhi and Mata will obviously be playing alongside Ozil every week.

Mkhitaryan out, Ozil in. We'd be in profit and have a better player. It's a no brainer

I expect he's hinting at Ozil, but the fact the journos asked him outright in a presser about Griezmann means there might be some smoke to that fire

Ozil through the centre, Pogba and Matic in midfield. Martial and Rashford on the flanks.

Filthy.

There's no way Wenger will sell in January. Good chance of him arriving in summer though i'd say. You'd hope he turns out to be far more effective than Mata and Mkhitaryan if he comes

Seriously don't get anyone being against getting a world class assist machine on a free transfer (or for a knockdown fee) that knows the league and has worked with Mourinho previously to great affect.

Plus we get one over on Arsenal, what's not to like?

Why should everyone believe that he will significantly upgrade us and not struggle in our system like what Miki or Herrera are having?

I am not suggesting we should not get him. But it is not a no brainer

Ozil is a class above Mkhi and Herrera.

This is just like people who were against Matic. Watch what happens if we do sign Ozil.

Imagine Pogba driving through midfield just to have Ozil to lay it off to who will create chances at will

Looks like he'll put in a bid for Özil in Jan. We should probably take that chance, but the chances are that Wenger will reject, and in his stubbornness (rightly) let him join us on a free in the summer.

Nothing is guarantee of course but I think it's fair to say Ozil has been operating at a high level for a number of years now.

I had high hopes for Mhiki but sometimes players just don't fit certain leagues and/systems. Or struggle to adapt to a new country.

I don't think you'd find many people who would argue that Herrera is on the same level as Ozil.

I am not putting everyone in same class. I am more concerned about Ozil fitting into our system. Arsenal play a lot more attack and try to play faster.
We play slow from the back.
If Ozil works well, I am more than happy.

The way Jose is talking, sounds like someone is signing in Jan. Interesting who it will be. Simone said Griezmann can leave, as we know Ozil can go on a freebie in the summer. I'm personally not a huge fan of either, but we seriously lack creativity in our team in big games. Players who genuinely look comfortable on the ball. We beat Arsenal but were under siege for probably 75% of that game and got battered by them, and that included a team with Pogba in it. The upside to Ozil is he is a genuine world class player in creating chances, something Lukaku is crying out for. The downside to him is his bulging eyes and the fact he drifts out of games, although I am hoping Jose's prior experience working with him would negate that issue. I say Ozil right now is more needed.

Mkhi is shit.

Think you've missed my point there.

We signed Mkhi off the back of him registering 23 goals and 32 assists for Dortmund. You'll find few who disputed the signing at the time. Yes, some questioned his mentality, but you could ask the same question of Ozil.

Don't get me wrong, I think Ozil would do well here, but nothing is guaranteed.

Replace Ozil's name with Mkhitaryan's and this comment could've been made 18 months ago.
Big difference being that Ozil has played under Jose in a very similar system at Real. Both know each other well and know exactly what to expect. Ozil also knows this league exceptionally well and has performed well in it (Mkhi was from a league and club with history for delivering duds.

Oh and as for going missing in big games, he plays for fecking Wenger. Not a surprise if you ask me...

——Pogba Matic

Rash Ozil Martial

———Lukaku

With all due respect, I don’t see why people keep hoping for Martial and Rashford on opposite flanks. Been proved now that Jose is justified in not liking this formation. Neither is any good on the right! That’s why we need an RW.

He’s a great player but he’s not what we need. He won’t improve us much. Mata and Mkhi offer virtually the same thing, infact Mkhi has more pace and can beat defenders. Yes on paper, he’s probably better than both but signing him will only paper over the cracks.

Would Ozil have made a difference in the City match? No.

We need players like Perisic, Griezmann, Bale or even a cheaper option like Zaha or Mahrez more.

how is griezmann going to improve us more than ozil? where would griezmann play? he's not a creative AM nor is he a focal point of attack like lukaku, he's also not a winger, he tends to play with/behind an attacking partner, and though he's a great finisher, he's not anything special technically. also, have you watched griezmann this season? he's form has been inconsistent.

Mkhi has been awful, and the only thing he beats a player at is losing to ball or falling to the grass

besides, getting ozil doesn't mean we won't get other players.

Haven't they only played one match together, against City? Hardly irrefutable proof, don't you think.

As much as I want Mourinho's comments to be about Ozil or Griezmann I'd put money on it being Danny Rose.

I do rate Rose but he's struggled since returning from injury.

If that's the case, why has he bothered giving minutes to Shaw?

Ozil is on a different planet, has done it for Real and Germany, created shed load of chances in this league already. I get your point though.
