Ozil is the kind of player who needs to have a strong manager who will push him, and needs to have a team around him who will push for titles. Looking at how he has performed in an Arsenal team under Wenger just doesn't tell the story. He has a few years left at the top level and in his prime, was the best #10 around. Under Mourinho, and with the likes of Pogba, Zlatan, Lukaku around him, he'd return to at least close to his best I believe, and that would leave a lot of people looking very foolish. At his peak he's better than Griezmann and there's a slight price difference which could be spent on a RW or LB too.
Agree with that sentiment. Özil has been living off his reputation for some time now. He can be a big liability when he's not switched on and that happens in most games nowadays.
I think he needs to get married or something. Because clearly, the game itself is not enough motivation for him anymore.

Personally I don't want him, but I'll be up for the signing if Jose wants him - who should know him well from their time together. Let's be honest, our manager has gotten just about each one of his signings spot on, thus far. (Fingers crossed with Lindelof).

This, people don't learn. the same thing was said about Matic in the summer, and look how that turned out.
If Jose wants him, he knows what he can get from him. add to that the fact that he's at least a 40/50M player that we could get for free, or less than 20M (January). it is a definite bargain and a risk worth taking.

I'd rather have dinner with Mata and he seems a top guy but as a no.10 I think Ozil is better and i'm salivating at the thought of him finding Lukaku with those pinpoint perfect passes.
Finally, this news splashing everywhere will hopefully give Mkhi a rocket and make him more than aware that his place isn't cemented and that if he doesn't recapture his form very quickly there'll be another top no.10 coming into the club to replace him.

I do, Mata has incredible movement and runs in behind defenders. He may be slow but his positioning and timing of runs is very good and he is a good finisher. Ozil would be able to consistently pick out those runs and Mata will also be used as depth. Mata already plays on the right and Mkhi has before too. We need to stop worrying about having too many players. None of the other top teams are.

The only thing he can do in Jan is talk to foreign teams about a move in the summer. Anything else requires Arsenal's permission and a transfer fee. He can move to us in the summer for free when his contract is up.

People dream about Real Özil, but we wont see that anymore. I could see a slight improvement under Jose, but it still wont be good enough. The last 2 years are more important as evidence of what to expect than what he did at Real 5 years ago

Peak Ozil could take a place in starting 11 of any big club almost by a storm. More creative but not as mobile and deadly as peak Grizou for sure.

Not really, he wasn't even that bad last year. 9+8 in the PL and 4+3 in the CL, and the year before he was brilliant and nominated for POTY. People are basically writing him off based on 6 games this season, when he's at a club in dire straits that he doesn't want to be at.

He's been average for a couple of years now. Ok, it's late Wenger Arsenal and you can understand why he might be demotivated but United are not exactly Real Madrid level yet. As for what he does for Germany, international football is generally of a poor standard. It's definitely an upgrade on current no.10 options but, if we can get Griezmann next June, I'd take the opportunity cost for the second half of this season in favour of a younger, hungrier player next summer.
