I think the main thing to getting deals is making the player believe that he is wanted. If it is true that Fergie did speak to the player it can only work in our favour. However we can sign someone without making a bid.
Ozil is a better winger. He'd keep the spot its that simple. Either Cesc would come in and play next to Xavi and Iniesta, or one would sit out. Or perhaps with Fabregas staying at Arsenal this summer Barcelona may wait till Xavi shows a decline and then sign Fabregas.
Pedro would be his competition. Ozil is a better creator by miles, Pedro will no doubt score more goals. It would give them options and the ability to cover for Messi when he cant play.
