Mesut Özil

Why?

Because hundreds of people on redcafe think we're fecked this season without him?

You know what, what-ever. We'll just see if the Barca deal is official. Can't be arsed to argue of whether we are interested or not because neither me or you know.

If he ends up at Barca and if we made a bid then it looks that way alright. So what though? Are there other players we should be signing instead?

Well, I don't see why not. It's not as if Ozil's the only decent midfielder in Europe. Look at this way, IF we don't spend then it's an indication that we've tightened the purse strings. We've spent £3m net so far, which to be fair isn't much. Fergie's always been able to spend, it's a shame he's having to rely on Scholes and Giggs to extend their playing careers. I'm not too bothered about a lack of signings, but the debts do worry me(sorry if that pisses off a few on this forum).

Funny the way everyones talking in past tense about Ozil all of a sudden. We're no nearer or further away from signing him than we were two days ago.

Yeah it's just getting fecking ridiculous. People like Crerand come out and say it's all the Glazers fault that we're not signing a player when there's absolutely nothing to suggest we were even interested in signing him, never mind all the other possible explanations, like the player preferring a move elsewhere.

We don't even know that anything's happening yet.

Go on blame it all on me, the glazers are great guys who have done wonders for the club and its fans, you happy now? End of arguement its going of thread

I'm just looking forward to seeing that Busbyway site's explanation if the certain deal with Özil doesn't happen.

Sure, the debts might worry you. What has that to do with us having to buy Ozil? The two things aren't linked.

feck me. Yous are retarded.

The paranoia is reaching new heights.

The combined muppet rage generated after Spoony suggesting he's off to Barca.... wow

To be honest its only a matter of time
Spoony suggested we were going to sign him, I take the honour of the Barcelona ruckus.

One thing that needs to be mentioned is that SAF does not horde players like other managers who feel that a player even if they don't need him they will want because it stops someone else from buying them - ala Real, Rafa - Spanish thing?

I would like the bug eyed creator playing for us but I won't lose sleep if he signs for Barca. Only time will tell whether we made the right decision.

Surely Ozil can't be stupid enough to sign for a team which will have a midfield of Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas from next summer?

Like Benzema did?

A great example. He clearly should've let his head to the talking. But I'd like to think he'd be used as an example how not to make a decision.

Well, yes. But people are angry at the Glazers. Let them vent.

No you tit.

You undermine your own argument against the owners by assuming all sorts of nonsense.

Yes, the club has massive debts. Yes, the club is trying to be sensible about transfers. Yes, ticket prices have gone up. Yes, the ACS is crap for supporters. Yes, football is becoming more commercialised. Yes, local supporters feel disenfranchised.

No, Ferguson wouldn't be refused if he asked for a reasonable amount of money to buy a player. Yes, there is plenty of cash available. No, that doesn't mean the club should spend it.

Either way with 1 year left on his contract he's a snip. A bit like Sneijder was last season. The deal just makes a lot of sense to everyone and if it clear doesn't make no sense to you i'm not going to argue the case. However if Ozil does end up at United i hope we don't hear a word off you in this thread!!

You're preaching to the converted here, Spoony, as you will remember from my irritation at the Ljajic deal going tits up.

This doesn't mean there's no money available at all though.

I'm sure that if Fergie really wanted to sign Ozil and if Ozil really wanted to sign for United, then he'd end up a United player. We might be operating with restraints on our spending but I would be very surprised if Fergie was intent on signing Ozil but still went ahead and spent the guts of 20m on Smalling and Hernandez, knowing that was his whole budget spent for the summer.

Perhaps, I have a feeling however we could have had him had money not been so tight, there was a rumour we tried to buy him for 9m. Financially we cant mix it anymore

Could be but I still think that we could afford 12m, considering the return the club would get from merchandising.
If we don t sign Ozil, I think there may be other reasons like the player's preferences or Fergie having other ideas

I'm just looking forward to seeing that Busbyway site's explanation if the certain deal with Özil doesn't happen.

The same as every ITK, I suspect..

"Well, when I got the info it was correct, but because of the state of the finances in the game at the moment, any sort of big offer at the last minute could change things dramatically' etc etc.

I didn't believe that admin fellow to begin with.. Although I shall reserve more abuse until this is made official..

More name calling lovely, what ever you say mate, whatever you say

Its a double-edged sword though. Going purely on pre-season so far its very easy to argue that we don't desperately need a new signing anywhere in the team. Ozil would be nice, but can we win the title without him? Of course we can.

Its a tricky situation. We know that we can't compete financially with certain other clubs, so the best way to get this kid is to charm him. Ferguson is a master at this, at his presence at Fulham is said to have been solely to meet with Ozil and his advisors.

The problem is, that appearance also sends out the message to other clubs that we're somewhat closer to signing him than they are, which will get the ball rolling.

Three options. Either the kid is susceptible to charm, in which case our chances are strong. Or he has his heart set on somewhere else. Or he wants to maximise his earnings. Only one of those scenarios works out well for United.

That being said, people maybe underestimate the pull of playing for this club. With Scholes and Giggs having maybe one more season, he has the opportunity of having our midfield built around him for the next five years. Quite an enticing prospect for any player.

Well we've spent £3m net, I should hope there's more money available. And the Ljajic and Tosic deals were absurd to say the least.

What does it matter when they'll be the ones supplying the ball to him on the left wing?

Umm because getting Cesc might mean shifting Iniesta out on the left? And plus they also got Pedro who got them 20+ goals last season and also Villa who could play off the left as he did for Spain if Ibra plays centre forward.

Ozil would be stupid to move there. Rather go to Madrid if he wants Spain that badly.

Admin's a liar. The ESPN link I posted earlier in this thread was posted on that website. He claimed he's 'unable to confirm the story but will ring around to see what's happening'.

He has a pretty decent excuse with the Fabregas situation. It looked nailed on.

Barca have done with Fabregas the same as what Real did with Ronaldo the year before he left.

With this in mind, they won't sign him for a period of use less than 12 months.

No ljajec or Ozil. Saf has faith in our creators -

Nani
Berba
Scholes
Giggs
Carrick
Valencia
Rooney

Well, yes of course people underestimate the pull of this club. But I agree with you, we can win the title with this squad. And I doubt Chelsea will be as hungry this season.

A little excercise for everybody, plant yer feet firmly on the ground and see how it feels. Steadier I'll bet.

Now then, who says United wanted him in the first place? The papers you'll say. Ok then, these are the same papers that have already linked us with 93 different players are they? Right!

Maybe we are interested, maybe not, only time will tell. Until then we'll just have to wait calmly and see how this Ozil stuff pans out.

In what sense was it nailed on?

He wanted to move, Barca wanted to buy but Arsenal said all along that they weren't selling. It's probably close to nailed on to happen eventually, but I never got the impression that they were going to get him this summer no matter what.
