How do you know the club has been watching him?

Just because there is a thread in him you think he is being scouted?

He rejected us before he moved to Bremen, Ozil has admitted this himself in an interview.

Top secret stuff. No one will notice SAF at the cottage!

Yes but of course I meant secret in regards to any fees or contact with the player, SAF could simply have been at the Cottage because he was watching an opponent we play shortly where had trouble last season.

;)

The journalists on the Sky Sports Sunday Morning chat show briefly spoke about Ozil and United and seemed to speak about it being slightly further on than it appears. Probably keeping our business as secret as possible before City offer him the country of Ghana for his services just to spite us.

Vital to remember this, any business we do is secret now that city are wealthy.
Yeah, like when we signed Berbatov.

Chicharito is the only sign of doing 'secret' business since City got the money, and even then we did a sneaky deal for Anderson back in 2007, so it's not anything new.

Well the Berbatov deal was very very public before City were bought. City got bought in the last few days of August and by then everyone knew we're after Berba anyway and there was nothing we could do. And City tried to Hijack that deal too.

Okay, so what other evidence of us doing secret business are there other than Chicharito? We were reported to be in for Diouf before the deal was struck, and the Smalling deal was led by a week of rumours about us and Arsenal battling it out for him.

Obertan was pretty unknown, and our Interest in Smalling was reported first time by the newspapers on the same day our bid got accepted. Tosic and Llajic was pretty much secret business. Most of our recent signings have been been quiet. Anderson's signing was also a surprise btw, our interest in Nani was well documented but Anderson's signing was out of the blue

Well, whoosh over me if it was a WUM, but it'd be hard to know for sure anymore! Fergie goes to watch Fulham who we play soon, he leaves at halftime and therby misses chance to watch Oezil, and yet muppets are convinced we are trying to get him.

What's the source for that? Because if that is true he also missed out on seeing Fulham score 5. If he was just there to see Fulham that would be pretty silly.

All of those were reported to be signed by us before we actually confirmed that we had secured their signatures though, leaving other clubs with time to check the player out and hijack the deal.

By secret dealings I don't mean buying a player that's largely unknown so therefore not attracting big media interest, but officially announcing the signing of a player, a signing that the papers were completely unaware of, like Chicharito and like Anderson. For me it's still one pre-City-billions and one post-City-billions. The only thing that's changed IMO is that the players we're signing aren't huge media profiles already since our transfer strategy has largely changed from finding established players to 'value' players who are up-and-coming and not so well-known, like Obertan, Chicharito and Diouf.

Not precisely; Ozil came on around the 38 minute mark in the first half. Perhaps he needed just seven minutes of seeing him play to get convinced.
Any port in a storm

Maybe he didn't play so SAF could meet with him beforehand and conduct his 'job interview'.?

I dont think SAFs visit to Fulham was to do some scouting ... he was def there to further his interest in Ozil. That does not mean we will sign him as things in the transfer business dont always go your way (like Ronaldiniho, Essien & Obi Mikel!) but that does not mean we are not trying.

So Oezil wasn't actually on the bench at the start of the game, it was a clever body double used so Fergie could conduct an interview?

This is getting even more ridiculous! Muppet desperation is out of control!

:)

Its not muppet desperation .... I have not really been an active participant in this thread anyway. Just having followed SAF all his career at United, I know well enough know that alot with him is never as it seems. I just dont believe that he would go to watch Fulham in a pre season friendly - he had another agenda. Im pretty much 100% convince of that.

If United wanted to sign him he would be here by now.All this throwing other teams of the scent bollocks is just that.

Not necessarily, if it goes public that we put a bid in for him, then City or any other club will have no shame in doubling whatever we have to offer just to prize him away.

Nothing wrong with waiting till the end of the transfer window.

Well I see nothing but straws being clutched at.

Muppets can dream what they like. I just don't want to see them breaking down like babies on this forum when we don't actually buy the player they have decided is this seasons wet dream.

I think that agenda may have been that Fulham is our second opponent in the league.

The plot thickens..

Wanting to check out a team we have bad recent record against, who have a new manager? That's just too logical.

How's our recent record away to Fulham? Was Fergie going to have to travel to Newcastle this weekend anyway?
Not great. No.

I momentarily forgot that he personally attends all games featuring opposition with a new manager, who we have a poor record against.

Thanks for reminding me.

you're right; suggesting that he was there to watch Ozil or to catch up with Ozil and/or his representatives is completely illogical.

I expect the key lessons SAF learnt from scouting our most deadly of rivals would have been to try and avoid playing central midfielders in the heart of the defence if at all possible, and try not to have anyone sent off.

If there is one idiot proof way of gauging precisely where a team is at, performance wise, it simply has to be the preseason friendly.

 It's like something on RAWK!

If he really wanted to scout Fulham, wouldn't it have made more sense to scout them in a competitive match against Bolton on 14th at Reebok(which is rather near to OT) rather than missing a charity event just to scout a team in a pre-season friendly

Finally got through to my source this morning. He said that Fergie was at the game yesterday to have a look at Ozil and at half time even went to meet Werder Bremen officials about a possible transfer.

He did say that while it was only initial contact, there was positives to take from the meeting. It was his understanding that Fergie was driving a hard bargain and was seeing if they were willing to meet at the £9 million while Werder obviously want to hold out for a little more. It was a very informal meeting and nothing was agreed or disagreed on. He was unsure whether Fergie met Ozil after the match but he said it was unlikely.

He did stress though that NO bid has yet been lodged. Although he did say he expected major developments this week. We shall wait and see.

BTW this same source was saying its a done deal.. So read into that what you will

I don't think Fergie would himself go personally for an initial talk about a transfer.

If people really think that we have not been in contact with Werder, they are deluding themselves, as all signs point to the fact that we definitely have been..

Whether the transfer goes through or not is another matter,
but there definitely have been talks between the clubs involved as I have stated few posts before...Money is the issue for now..

I dont believe it is that- maybe if we were talking about £30m+ then yes but he is being quoted anywhere between £8- 15M. If Fergie wanted him we would have him already.

Thats what the press is saying. I think Werder would want atleast 20m.

How. How do you know this?

Don't think anyone is suggesting Fergie is at the negotiating table...

I was going off this bit.....
