Mesut Özil

We bid for him already in 2008, he's hardly unknown to Fergie and if we actually had wanted to scout him in 2010, we would have had enough opportunities in the 2009/10 season.

2008 is a while ago and he's changed and improved since then. If we were to offer a large amount of money to sign him, we arent going to do it on the basis of our previous scouting. Because its outdated and almost irrelevant.

And none of us have any idea whatsoever, whether we were looking at him last season or if Sir Alex has only started looking at him since the first game of the world cup, or even perhaps as recently as when we've started to be linked with him again in the media.

Daily Mail just did a piece.

Sir Alex Ferguson has entered the race for the brightest young star at the World Cup by missing Manchester United's annual open day with fans to spy on the 21-year-old German Mesut Ozil.

While more than 5,000 United supporters tried to spot their manager as United's players trained in public at Old Trafford, Ferguson was 200 miles away at Fulham's Craven Cottage to watch Ozil, who could be the biggest transfer window bargain as he only has one year left on his contract at Werder Bremen and might cost as little as £15million - half his real transfer market value.

There's no way we cant be interested after today, why else of all the Fulham games SAF could go to would he go to the one today?

Cock well and truly out!

We are a professional football club and not a dump.

If we were interested in him we would watch him in regular competitive games and not in a pre-season game. From that game Fergie couldn't have learned something new about Özil.

People occassionally watch football games, it happens. SAF was already in London and maybe he had nothing else to do or got invited. If I had been there, I would have went to that game, too.

If there's nothing to be learned from a friendly, why did SAF bother going at all? Most likely it was to see Fulham, bit he obviously saw some 'value' in going....

Was this not Hughes first/second game in charge? Maybe he wanted to see what way he had his bunch of players playing to line up for them based on the fact he would have no evidence. Then i suppose for the muppet benefactor he could have opted for a recording of the game.....so wanted to make his prescence felt for physical talks ;)

Before today, I didn't realise Ferguson was a football fan.

Fancy going to a match?

I only really decided to pay attention to him at the world cup and he was just ok, but then this world cup is not a good spectacle to measure players ability.
He is as good as people here a cocking about or he will just be new?

I've only seen him in the world cup aswell, where I was impressed with him and definitely think he could be a star for us if we went for him. But I do also think that alot of people want us to make a big money signing just as a sort of reassurance about our financial situation, instead of the 'value' we keep hearing about that just leads to more anxiety.

Whatever happens, I'll trust Sir Alex to get the best out of what we have in the squad, new signing or not. If we arent good enough, then you would think the Glazers will have no option left but to delve into their pockets and be a bit looser with their cash

Just sign him already Fergie. If what they are saying is true that we could get him for 10or 12 mil, it's a steal even if he turns out to be shit. Then again what up and coming star sells for that little these days? But better now then next year when he may be worth three times as much.

People are forgetting that we've been watching him well before the world cup, this wouldn't be a knee-jerk signing on the back of a good WC. Just look at when this thread was created...

Barca contact Özil
Barça directive has begun the search for alternatives after failure Cesc. The German Ozil is the letter that want to offer Pep

Cesc Fabregas's statement on Friday saying that they would not sign for Barcelona and stayed at Arsenal has caused, as good horns (and this has been), two different paths within the decision-making Barça.

While the coaching staff led by Pep Guardiola has taken the charge as a sign that we must look to the quarry because it is difficult to believe that market better than anything offered by football players in the policy have taken the gored differently. As a reto.Y Ozil this challenge and called plays for Werder Bremen. This is the new objective of the directors of the club.

i think we will have a better idea once tye champions league matches take place or of course he font go to someone by then

my intitial optimism had turned to scepticism but when i saw this last night my optimism returned.

bonus player though not someone we desperately need.

Man Utd boss Ferguson may wait to sign Ozil on Bosman
08.08.10 | tribalfootball.com

Manchester United may wait until January to secure Mesut Ozil to a pre-contract agreement.

The Sunday Mirror says Sir Alex Ferguson took a close up view yesterday of Ozil, the man he wants to succeed Paul *Scholes.

The Manchester United boss watched Fulham’s 5-1 friendly win over Ozil’s club, Werder Bremen.

United are refusing to meet the £8million asking price for the *Germany World Cup star as the 21-year-old’s contract expires in the summer.

Ferguson said: “People are screaming for us to spend lots of money, but we’ll only buy if it’s *going to better the squad.”

Cheapness.

God save us from muppets who think Oezil would be bought for 8m.

And isn't posting shit from tribalfootball a bit embarassing nowadays?

I am going to stick my head out and say this and risk the wrath of this place......whether people want to believe me or not though is another thing..

I have heard from a couple of people that we are definitely in talks..initially money was an issue but things are looking a little more positive lately..

*awaits the caf backlash*

Lets just say I won't be one bit surprised if the goggled eye freak is playing for us this season..

but we are definitely in talks..

this thread reaches a new low. The sooner he signs for Barca the sooner it can be deleted and put out if it's misery.

Well, whoosh over me if it was a WUM, but it'd be hard to know for sure anymore! Fergie goes to watch Fulham who we play soon, he leaves at halftime and therby misses chance to watch Oezil, and yet muppets are convinced we are trying to get him.

This may have been the first time Fergue has been him live.

But that's the thing, I am actually not on the wind up here...I have heard it from at least 2 different people who have claimed that we are definitely in talks.....and that the only issue was finances!
Course I have refrained from saying it on here when I found out about it a couple of days ago, cause I just know the skepticism that I would be faced with, and rightly so, since anyone could more or less can sprout bollocks like that on an internet forum....
Just passing on the word as to what I have heard from a couple of people with contacts at the club....

Not precisely; Ozil came on around the 38 minute mark in the first half. Perhaps he needed just seven minutes of seeing him play to get convinced.
Any port in a storm

The journalists on the Sky Sports Sunday Morning chat show briefly spoke about Ozil and United and seemed to speak about it being slightly further on than it appears. Probably keeping our business as secret as possible before City offer him the country of Ghana for his services just to spite us.

Vital to remember this, any business we do is secret now that city are wealthy.

How do you know the club has been watching him?

Just because there is a thread in him you think he is being scouted?

The lad on RI who has genuine intercation with the team and Fergie occasionally (he gets the team news hours before anyone else and the odd transfer peice) has said he knows nothing about talks with Ozil, but he did say that as far as he was aware Fergie had previously not been planning to go and watch Fulham...

Hmm.
