Finished 5-1 to Fulham after they were a goal down at half time.

I really do hope Fergie was taking notes on Fulham now.

Yes and they will still be having the 'play well to impress new gaffer' syndrome too. We will be tested that day.

We'll probably drop points there tbh. Seems ages since we last got any points there (FA cup not included)

THAT ronaldo goal, was that the last time we won there?

Nope, we had a comfortable 3-0 win there 2 seasons back.

Hargreaves free kick, Scholes header, and an OG.

Oh yes the 3-0.

The Rooney red card incident was 3 years back then? That 3-0 win was 3 years back if I'm not wrong. The 2007-08 season?

I cannot believe SAF saying he is happy enough with the squad, especially the midfield. We are so dependent on Scholes.

Hey. Who am I to question the great man.

He believes in Gibson and Cleverly. In Cleverly's case I believe rightfully so. I also still think Gibson can come good.

Yep, since then we've got there three times - two league defeats and one FA Cup 4-0 win (just before we lost 0-2 in 2008/09, the Rooney and Scholes red cards game).

Last season we relied heavily on Rooney. If he had a bad season, we were screwed. If he had a good season we'd have a good season. This time round, with the purchase of Hernandez and the development of Nani, Valencia and Gibson, we should be less reliant on Rooney's goals. And instead, now its Scholes we're going to heavily rely on. If he's great this season we'lll have a great season. If he's inconsistant, we'll be inconsistant. And if he's really not even up to last season's standard, we could have a dissappointing season.

This season the one thing I want is for Giggs to be shifted centrally permanently.

That's the one thing you want from this season? Hopefully Fergie is setting his sights a little higher.

SAF himself admitted last year that he intended to play Giggs in the centre all season but then realised he's still more or less just as good playing on the left wing.

If he again shows he can still do it for us there, why move him? I think he's still as good as anyone we've got there...

I thought Giggs was quite poor on the wings after his stunning first few months, post injury.

Poor on the wing compared to the days of old (erm, young).

He's still a fine option there against teams that have no real intention of going on the attack.

Manchester United Manager Sir Alex Ferguson Casts Eye Over Germany Star Mesut Oezil At Werder Bremen Friendly - Report
Aug 7, 2010 8:45:00 PM

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was an interested spectator at Craven Cottage on Saturday, as he watched Fulham in their pre- season friendly win over Werder Bremen, reportedly to watch potential transfer target Mesut Oezil.

Although Ferguson has stated that he is very happy with his current squad, it would seem that the opportunity to look at German star Oezil was too good to turn down.

The influential playmaker has been linked with a host of European clubs and Ferguson even missed United’s annual open training session to watch the 21-year-old, according to AFP, which could be the biggest indication yet that a transfer is on the horizon.

Ozil, who has expressed how much he admires United, wouldn’t have been too impressed with the result and the performance of his team mates as Fulham cruised to a 5-1 victory.

Midfielder Zoltan Gera scored a hat-trick, while Bobby Zamora, who is hoping for an England call-up, was also on the score sheet for the London club.

No value

Ahead of Sunday's clash, Ferguson is adamant he will not dip into the transfer market for the sake of it.

The United boss has continually insisted there is no one 'exciting' him in the transfer market and is not tempted to take a plunge in the last three weeks before the window closes.

"I don't see the value in adding to our squad," said Ferguson.

"I am happy with what we already have and I don't see any reason to add to that just because people want me to buy someone.

"Supporters want you to buy players. They like to see a big signing every year. Sometimes the players like to see a big signing.

"But we have to be sensible about it. We look at our own squad and ask what do we need?

"I look at the players everyone says are available and they don't excite me."

Rather go with Nani and Valencia on the wings though. Great backup for the wings to have though and yeah I think he might be more central this season.

To be fair what you quoted Chirag was the stuff he said Friday. Still - more likely that boss watching Fulham as we play them soon and we've had a bad time in the league there last couple times.

Frankly I thought that there would have been a lot of glee just spotting Ozil and SAF in the same city - that SAF was watching Ozil in a match - thought the world would explode.

My pants certainly did explode.

Fergie at The Cottage. Seems happy. Don't know if its before or after the match.

Interesting that he went there instead of going to United's open training day.

Yep - he's got his Ozil-scouting pink tie on. Ozil went back to training in a pink shirt the other day. It is most definitely on.

We are a professional football club and not a dump.

If we were interested in him we would watch him in regular competitive games and not in a pre-season game. From that game Fergie couldn't have learned something new about Özil.

People occassionally watch football games, it happens. SAF was already in London and maybe he had nothing else to do or got invited. If I had been there, I would have went to that game, too.

Youre not allowed to post sense in this thread. Apparently its "reverse muppetry"...

Who is to say he wont also watch him in a competative game? What harm does a pre-season game do, when his team werent playing a competative match that day?

Point me to his recent competitive games for Bremen that Fergie could have gone to. I'm sure we've also had scouts at their games keeping tabs on him.

I didn't say it did any harm. I just said that he's hardly going to "scout" a new transfer target in a pre season game.

A pre-season game might not tell you much, but it'll tell you more than nothing. And if we watch him again in a competative match we'll know a bit more about him than if we watched him in just the one match. So it could easily have been a bit of extra scouting. But obviously its not going to be the meat of our scouting on him and the pre-season match alone isnt going to convince Sir Alex that we need to pay whatever it takes to sign him, if he didnt already feel that way.
