No one questioned SAF about new signings in the press conference then?

Quite a few articles I've read, in this thread and other places, have said it's looking to be done by Monday. Mainly the German ones - admittedly.

It's not...erm....Monday anytime between 11am and 2pm is it?

Don't know how to break this to you if it is.

If Ozil came then either Nani or Berba would be hte biggest loser and as Nani has just signed a new contract and Berba still has SAF faith then really it would be difficult to jusify his purchase no matter how cheap he may have been.

Piotr Trochowski to be Manchester United back-up target after Mesut Ozil

Manchester United will line up a move for Hamburg midfielder Piotr Trochowski if they fail to sign his Germany team-mate Mesut Ozil from Werder Bremen.

Ozil is out of contract next summer but is rumoured to be keen to move away from the Bundesliga this year after impressing at the World Cup.

Bremen are equally desperate not to lose out on a potential transfer windfall by letting his existing deal run out and risk being forced to settle for a cut-price fee.

However, the Turkish-born playmaker is not short of potential suitors - with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, and Spurs all rumoured to be interested.

As a result, Sir Alex Ferguson has identified another German World Cup hero in Trochowski who could add an extra dimension to United's midfield.

The Hamburg player would also represent more of a bargain, with Bremen thought to be demanding upwards of £30million for Ozil.

Like feck are they!

How will it be difficult to justify signing a potential star for the next 10 years for less than £15m? I'm scratching my head at that one.

They were probably warned beforehand not to, SAF only answers questions he wants to. What anyone wants to read into that is up to themselves of course

When he wants to avoid giving certain answers he usually uses the phrase "i am not getting into that"...or something similar

No one at United has even mentioned Ozil - unlike with Benzema last year.

75 pages just because Ozil said he would like to play for one of the major clubs in Spain or England.

If that's the case then maybe something is happening? Surely if nothing was happening we'd just say so rather than avoid the question?

Benzema talk started because one of his team mates told some unknown site that he was in talks with United, even when it broke down the only confirmation we got that we even bid for Benzema was around October when Owen said in a interview that SAF wanted Benzema but when that failed he went for Owen.

So the evidence that Ozil isn't coming is that United have decided not to send a 20 year old out on loan before January with Carrick, Hargreaves and Anderson out??

There has to be a name for this sort of reverse muppetry. Knee jerk transfer muppetry and knee jerk anti-transfer muppetry are the same thing IMO.

First, Ferguson's words about Cleverley confirm that the club is looking for a player to fill the Scholes role.

Second, United usually likes two options at every position and competition for places.

Third, this may be a bargaining tactic to lower the price on Ozil.

Save your laughter for when the transfer window closes and not before.
