The strangest link I've read all day is us to Ozil and Trochowski.
Trochowski was rumoured as the fall back plan if we don't get Ozil, I guess some journos have decided we're after both any way.

Bremen have tried to hint that for clubs that want him by saying they'll play their best players in the qualifiers. From the latest from Bremen's side - everything points to a come make an offer we can live with and he is yours.
Question is who really is after him? No one club has even mentioned his name - haven't even heard "yeah, he looked good in the WC and is an interesting but, we can't comment on players we are after"
Could argue we didn't really hear anything from the club for Chicha or Smalling or even Obertan but, that is typical of low profile players. Normally for high profile / visible you might at least hear a comment from someone.
I won't be surprised if we were never after him when the window closes. It's a fan dream and yes, I think it would be a good prospect for the future but, right now don't think it's going to happen.

@Chirag - the noise that has come out of Bremen has been that they'll play their best players for the qualifiers and that motivation seemed to come from the Ozil rumours.
That article earlier mentioned how much they stand to lose if they don't qualify - so if nothing gets settled before the window closes and they don't play Ozil - they stand to lose out twice.
Unless they know the deal will be sorted out for sure - not playing him would not be an option.

I know Bremen would prefer to play their star players but I think you are looking at it a bit differently..
I think your taking it as a fact that if Ozil plays they qualify.. There is every likely chance that he will play and they can still go out. In that case they won't be in the CL and they wont be able to sell him either as he would be cup tied and he wont go to a non CL team..
Also I think they are likely to not play him if a club expresses a serious interest and possibly a bid through which some negotiations begin..
I am merely speculating I am obviously not saying either of this will happen but it still remains a possibility.. If someone is going to bid they better make sure they bid before their match on the 17/18 of August or a week later incase he doesn't play in the 1st leg..

I think if he plays the CL qualifier no club will buy him this season and that is quite certain..

I doubt we'd be interested in a cup tied player.
I think I am one of the few people that think if we look to get him now - it won't be to fill an immediate need but, more of a case for a future player and he is available right now. As such if he is cup tied for this coming season, I don't think it will impact SAF thinking on him.
Not that we wouldn't try use him some in the CL if not cup tied but, I think even if he does come - when push comes to shove unless he really is outstanding - Giggs, Scholes and current players will be ahead of him.

I'm just waiting for Fergie to come out in the next few days/weeks and say that we will not be buying anyone in this window and that he looked at a couple of option but the market is too inflated.

More than likely 12m is not what Werder will accept - it's a number been thrown around but, if you think about all the clubs that are said to possibly in for him - at 12m should be in for him.

There are only a select few clubs and the likes of Spurs is not one of them that Ozil will go to.
Ozil may have signed a pre-contract already so his destination may already be known to him.

Kaka's injury may force Real to move for Ozil this summer, even though they have VDV and Canales who can play in Ozil's position. Will be interesting if any team bids for him before the CL qualifiers or if they wait until the last day of the window to try to get him on the cheap, although the £12-15 million being quoted is cheap considering what other players are being valued at.
Maybe Ozil won't go to Spurs or whoever but, there are certainly clubs that could make offers at that price and see if Werder will sell to them - perhaps then try work on Ozil. Unless tapping up rules don't apply across FA, then I'd assume a club would first have to approach Werder - in that case make an offer for him but, they've said if they get offers they'll listen to them - i.e. not having got any offers so far.

Swap Berbatov for Ozil. Both parties would be happy, then promote Macheda as the fourth choice striker.
Swap deals are always messy as its a double negotiation and Berba has made it clear he does not want to leave so could drag his heels. For better or worse we are stuck with him.
