to me, if we sign this lad, we could be set for a good few years...

---------------------VDS/PIG/Amos---------------------
-Twin/Brown-----Rio/Evans----Vidic/Smalling---Twin/Evra
-Valencia/Park--Carrick/Fletcher-Scholes/Ozil------Nani--
-------------Hernandez/Berba---Rooney/Owen----------

We have one experienced and one younger player in each position. (except the wing).
This is obviously not including a lot of the players, i.e. Macheda, Welbeck, Cleverley etc.

id prefer him to stay in werder for this year, id say theres more chance of us making a bid next year, with scholes and giggs likely to be nearer to the end.

We're not signing him. Time to move on!

Thats more like it.

on the other hand, if he's available on a free, he'll be asking big bollox wages, and i'm not sure united will give it to him as it'll upset the apple cart at the club in terms of wage structure.

IMO it will be Arsenal who put up the money for him. They may need someone to replace Cesc. I know he is not a like for like replacement, but Arsenal will need a name to keep fans happy if Cesc goes. Ozil is Wengers kind of player.

I thought you were rolling out the Ozil to City band-wagon?

Surprised you haven't mentioned Chelsea yet tbh. Missed a trick there.

Or what about Liverpool, with this new investment coming in?

You don't need investment to sign him for the likes of figures being banded around at the minute.

Even the clubs at the foot of the table could splash £12m on a player.

If you think Ozil will be bought for as little as 12m then you're a moron.

You think he'd sign for a club at the foot of the table?

Obviously not.

My point was that most clubs have the kind of cash reported to be his asking price.

So I'm baffled that we've not jumped on this. He's a player that would greatly improve out squad.

Giggs and Scholes aren't getting any younger.
Anderson hasn't yet done it for United.
Carrick has turned shit.
Hargreaves I'll not even mention.
Gibson is not there yet.
Fletcher is King, I'll give you that.

If we lose out on him and he moves for £12m then there's something seriously wrong somewhere.

He'd be the best bet for replacing Scholes in the long run I imagine. I can't see the figure of £12,000,000 being true however, this is probably why we aren't moving for him.

Get a 15 year contract drawn up, then cover all but the signature bit up with a newspaper and then ask him for his autograph next time he's spotted in the airport. Job done.

Even at 16 million (apparently what Bremen are asking for) he is not a bad buy. Fergie knows he has the upper hand in the negotiations, with Ozil's contract situation so he will hold out for 10-12million, I think if this deal is going to happen it will happen towards the end of the transfer window.

I don't see why people are saying the £12m fee isn't a lot. Ozil is 21 and has a lot of potential and had a good World Cup, but how many really knew much about him before the World Cup? He has 1 year left on his contract at 21 - same as when we sold Pique for half of Bremen's asking price.

Perhaps because plenty of lesser players are going for more.

Ozil was one of the best players in this past WC and at 12m represents excellent value.

Manchester United have been told they still have a chance of landing German star Mesut Ozil - if the price is right.

Sir Alex Ferguson is known to be very keen on Ozil, who was one of the stars of the World Cup this summer, but it looked as though the midfielder would be staying with Werder Bremen.
Ozil confirmed earlier in the week that he was happy to see out the remaining 12 months of his contract with the Bundesliga outfit, but now Werder say a deal could still happen.
"Should there be an offer on the table, we would consider it," said Werder's general manager Klaus Allofs. "Everything is still possible at the moment."
Chelsea are also said to be keen but United are in the box seat if they can meet Werder's asking price.
Meanwhile, United also continue to be linked with a move for Hamburg's Piotr Trochowski and the player's agent is refusing to rule out a move to Old Trafford.

Trochowski? That's a new name thrown into the hat.

Wrong with what? No offence but I'm inclined to trust fergies judgement as to what's for the best over yours.

No. I said that City wouldnt be detered if he were to play for Werder in the CL pre lim round.

Arsenal and United would.

Cheers.

Does the next round come before the end of the transfer window?

The first qualifiers for the group stages are the 16/17th of Aug and the week after is the return leg. So Ozil could be CL cup tied before the window closes.

We are almost at 3,000 replies. If we hit 5,000 and Ozil still hasnt decide or there is no outcome I think we should just collective ban the fecker.
