according to marca he ll join Real Madrid

I doubt that. The only way he'd sign for Real is in January on a pre contract so they pick him up on a free.

Either way I don't think Mourinho really cares but if it goes down to a pre contract in jan then he's surely Madrids given they can give him anything he wants really.

Apparently Berbatov and a small cash fee is a possibility for a transfer which may entice Bremen more then a straight out cash fee.

Anyone see Sky Sports where they said he was spotted in Manchester airport?

EDIT: Nevermind.

Mesut Ozil Spotted At The Airport | The Transfer Tavern | Where football transfer rumours fly or die!

he name very firmly in the Transfer Tavern’s frame earlier today (no drinks or cigarettes over the table, please) has been spotted landing in the UK. At Manchester Airport…
The source is a chap by the name of Cheltenham Red on top United forum Red Cafe.
The Tavern knows that David Gill is minding the shop whilst Sir Alex is away and it is Gill that oversees this end of the business anyway.
If this pans to amount to anything, then it will be a body blow for many big clubs. Specifically Tottenham and perhaps to a lesser extent, Aresnal. Both sides would have regarded the capture of this player as quite a coup.

most probably the sky sport journalist picked up from the transfer tavern who in turn based their story on Cheltenham Red's daughter "report"

Marca is pretty much a professional looking Football Rumours.

I suggested this earlier in the week and all of the anger management class failures jumped down my throat suggesting I had an agenda.

I just thought it made sense as Ozil would occupy a similar role to which Berbatov does so I am assuming Berbatov would slip down the pecking order and also he has played in Germany before and said he really liked the Bundesliga.

So it would poosiblt suit all parties,EVEN THOSE WITH AGENDAS

Berbatov wouldn't sign for them, though.

No, i m sure he ll stay at least another year with us. He gave me the impression that he wants to make up for the past two seasons and I think the decision to retire from the Bulgarian national team is related to this

United lead Ozil race

Manchester United are leading the chase for Germany World Cup star, Mesut Ozil.

Sir Alex Ferguson is the clear front-runner for the Werder Bremen playmaker, readying a bid of up to £12m to bring his top target to Old Trafford.

Bremen are bracing themselves for a swoop before the transfer window closes at the end of August and expect United to follow up their interest with a firm offer.

United chief executive, David Gill, revealed this week that money is available to sign a world class player.

And having scoured the talent at this summer’s World Cup, Ferguson believes Ozil has the potential to be the long-term successor to Paul Scholes and boost his bid to regain the Premier League title.

The 21-year-old was one of the stand-out performers in South Africa, helping Germany reach the semi-finals and he played a key role in their 4-1 demolition of England.

But he is available at a cut price with Bremen worried they will lose him for nothing when he is out of contract at the end of the season.

Real Madrid are also monitoring Ozil, but Jose Mourinho is ready to wait until January to negotiate in the hope of signing him on a free.

That gives Ferguson the chance to steal a march on the Spanish giants and land a player who will fit into the club’s policy of signing emerging talent.

Meanwhile, Aalesund director, Henrik Hoff, has confirmed that United are interested in Danish goalkeeper, Anders Lindegaard.

MEN Sport revealed this week that Fergie had targeted the keeper as a long-term successor to Edwin van der Sar.

Lara Baldeserra (Fox Soccer) is saying roughly the same thing over on twitter:
#ManchesterUnited are preparing a bid of ~$19million for Mesut Ozil. #Tottenham #Arsenal #RealMadrid remain interested. #WerderBremen #MUFC

But as she's usually a week late with her "breaking news" and is just copying the latest big news/rumour without giving credit, it's almost certainly bullshit.

Nothing credible. Ozil comes back from vacation on Monday. I reckon it will all kickstart then.

Oh and Lara Baldeserra is

You are completely right, but unfortunately footballers are that silly and tend to think to high of themselves. Was it a wise move for Benzema to go to Real that early in his career? No. He did it nevertheless and it cost him a spot in the WC squad.
Benzema is one example, there have been plenty of other players - seem to remember that Real did also have an interest in Ronaldo, didn't they? -, who themselves choose the right club for the development. Having no money-grabbing agent tends to help also.

I could only see Özil move to Real, should they get rid of van der Vaart, which does not look too likely at the moment.

If Luka Modric can adopt a role in a central midfield 2 i see no reason why Ozil cant, similiar build/stature, very similiar styled players who both probably prefer the free role just in behind the striker.

That is hopeless. Everyone who knew Modric was aware that he could feature as a central midfielder when he arrived. It suits his qualities too. Özil is very different.

I'll be shocked if we sign him. Im certain that we wont be signing anyone in this transfer window.

Because it's "cool" to appear to be the polar opposite of a transfer muppet.

and to come into the forum where people discuss possible transfers and simple say none of them will be happening, while everyone would assume that if you thought there would be no transfers you wouldn't even bother clicking on a thread in this forum

Is this idea that we have zero chance of signing him reverse "muppetry" or just posters convinced we have no money?

We are most likely one season from losing Giggs and Scholes, our policy is based on youth and value, Ozil's age and the fact he's in the last year of his contract make him about as close to an ideal signing for us as you can get.

I'm not saying we will get him but lets not underestimate the appeal of United, I'll wager he ends up here or Real.

I've just been thinking about this and how it is strange nobody has made a move for him yet and I think I have solved it.

Scenario A: Clubs move in for him now leaving Bremen about 5 weeks to haggle over the price and draw in as much of a bidding was as they can.

Scenario B: Clubs wait until around deadline day leaving Bremen much less room to get the media involved and invoke a bidding war. They know it's their last chance to sell as he can start signing pre-contracts come Janruary. As he will be Champions League cup tied, very few clubs will be willing to pay a fee in Janruary anyway.

I have a feeling we're waiting until the final day to snatch him. I can't see anyone else interested in him that can offer him the package of Champions League Football (City), League Contention (Tottenham) and the chance to be a first choice player (Madrid).

You know it actually makes sense :)

Well yes, but knowing us we'd wait till the last day and be in such a rush we end up playing £31 million for him after kidnapping him at the airport on the way to a medical at City.

It would be a huge enough shock for us to go in for him and get him, let alone mastermind a plan to get him as cheap as possible and not get into a bidding war.

We've got Gill now not Kenyon.

It's hardly masterminded is it? it's common sense. We start now they haggle, we start late and they are in no position to bargain with us.

he's good but nowhere near Kaka's shirt selling capabilities. ANd this matters the most for Madrid.

Not to mention that they already got Canales, who is also young and plays in his position.

I don't think he'll end in Real, to be perfectly honest.

Well, at least not now or next year.

For someone like Özil who adores Spanish football United would only be a consolation prize. Real Madrid and Barcelona are still the two foreign clubs boys in this country dream of, and this is not even me trying to make something up - he himself has often stressed how he loves Spanish football. Particularly now that Khedira has moved to Spain, Özil will be even more eager to secure himself a move to La Liga. If he doesn't get his move this season, he'll wait until next season for the Spanish clubs to snap him up for free.

Priority #1 for him should be that he secures a name for himself first, rather to go to Spain now. If he goes now, he may very well be a second fiddle to Iniesta or Kaka. If he doesn't get playing time, he won't fulfil his potential, it's obvious.

Real buy established footballers, Ozil at the moment is not one. He needs couple of seasons at a top side to become one.

At United he would have the whole package as Pexbo said. He could easily go to Spain in his late 20's. Why would he risk it all now, when there's nothing certain at those two top clubs?
