If hes goes on a free transfer we wont get him, the likes of City, Madrid, Barcelona etc etc will all offer far higher wages than us.
I'm sure United would prefer him to see out his contract and sign for free next year. More so than our richer rivals who might rather secure his services now, even for a significant fee.
Taking advantage of Bosman is the sensible thing to do. Akinfeev and Ozil next year for free would be fantastic value...
How some people forget...

But would they have room for him in their first 11 like we certainly would? If hes goes on a free transfer we wont get him, the likes of City, Madrid, Barcelona etc etc will all offer far higher wages than us.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Answer to criticism from John Carew that Zlatan’s moves are pointless.) - “What Carew does with a football, I can do with an orange.”
It wouldn't surprise me to see him extend his contract just to allow Bremen to be on the receiving end of a big transfer kitty when a club decides to buy him

Apparently he's off to Bayern.
Am really gutted that we've not gone in for him, we'll regret it with this one I fear.
Says who? The BILD is the best source when it comes to transfers within Germany's and they have nothing like that on their site. Instead, they have some quotes from Özil, who apparently wants to fulfill his contract. Players who leave for free get a huge signing bonus from their new clubs, so from his point of view, it makes sense to wait. However, he hasn't ruled out to extend his contract - he said he would think about it in the middle of the season.
Özil did come out as well saying that he would like to see out his contract at Bremen; but, I reckon, should a decent offer come in for Mesut, Werder could sell.Werder Bremen’s general director Klaus Allofs told Bild: “We're keen to hold on to Mesut for a couple more seasons and we want him to sign a new deal with us,"
"However, if that turns out to be impossible, we might have to look at other solutions."
I always think it's a bit shit when players do that. Why not sign a contract with a break clause, get a pay rise and go when you want to? I suppose it weakens your negotiation for the next contract. Owen at Liverpool was a classic shitbag.
Ribery and Robben will eventually move on and Ozil is the next great thing in Germany, so why wouldn't Bayern want him?
I've posted this before in this thread. But fecking hell, it's just so drool worthy...

Not since Rooney have I been so sure a specific player is so right for us at the given time.
Ribery has just extended his contract with Bayern and Robben is happy at Bayern after the nightmare with Real.
Bayern don't need him and so far, they haven't even bid or asked for him. They tend to like buying the best players in the league, but it's not like they are buying everyone. If there was any chance that Bayern are interested in him, the BILD would have already linked them to him just like they did with Neuer.
Robben and Ribery are not about to move on. Ozil isn't bench material and they already have Toni Kroos on their bench. A player who is every bit as talented, possibly even more so than Ozil, and does the same things. I assure you. They have no need for him this summer.Ribery and Robben will eventually move on and Ozil is the next great thing in Germany, so why wouldn't Bayern want him?
United needed Rooney. Have no doubt about that.United didn't need Rooney with Ruud and Saha already in the squad (and this before they were crocked), but SAF saw long term potential.
But we all know they aren't about to lose Ribery to anyone. So the idea seems far fecthed. This summer I will be very shocked if they went for Ozil with Kroos still on their books.I wouldn't rule Bayern out. It wouldn't be the first time they get a player they don't currently need. He's German and a potential superstar - they'll want him, and they probably wouldn't mind losing Ribery, say, to accommodate him.

As much as Rooney was long term planning. He was actually a better forward than any of our other strikers except Ruud. At Bayern Ozil isn't better than any of the starting 11 who play the roles he currently plays. & his competition on the bench, namely Kroos is arguably even superior to him too. Unless Bayern are letting go of a star they simply have no room for that kid.As much as Bayern need Ozil. Rooney was bought based on long term planning not immediate need. Same thing for Ozil if he went to Bayern.
