Mesut Özil

From the 3 games I have seen, Ozil would be a wonderful signing for us. Good age, great potential, surely he's a 'value' signing.

With City signing Silva, Barca after Fabregas, Real unlikely to sign another 'inexperienced' player (having signed Canales and Di Maria) and with Inter having that buffoon in charge, I can only see Chelsea rivalling us in a serious bid for the lad.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before; some of you might have a stroke by reading this, but how about a cash plus Berbatov bid for Ozil?? Berba thrived in Germany, whilst Ozil is the type of player we need.

Not very realistic, Berba has mentioned in past interviews that he would only play for Leverkusen again in Germany. Who knows, maybe Berba will reunite with Ballack and finish his career there one day. But not now.

I am a bit surprised by the amount of praise that is being heaped on Mesut, definitely a good player, but from all the Werder matches I watched last season, and there were quite a few, he did well, but was not a dominating force. He has had a great World Cup to be fair to him, but this is no guarantee for success in the Premiership and at United.

I hear he hates Peruvians too and he never signed a Croat because he doesn't trust them. Don't even get him started on Belgians. He really can't fecking stand them.

Are you seriously comparing one of top 4 leagues in Europe and a consistently superb national team to Peru and Croatia?

My point is not along the lines of hate, more along the lines of not liking their play/ mentality/something else. In 20 years he's attempted or signed a good player from every major footballing country in the world bar one. His comments made me think, one would conclude that there is something there

Well Bayern sign most of the best German players.

You could equally say that Bayern don't seem to be interested in English players. Fact is, they have prestigious clubs in their own league.

German players are a bit like the English. They tend not to play in foreign leagues.

Now Ballack has slung his hook, how many Germans play in the Premier League? Or in Spain? What about Italy or France?

I can barely think of any.

Is the same for all the traditional top 4 leagues.

Not many Spanish players have played in foreign leagues, not many Italians have done, or English or Germans.

There are exceptions obviously, and traditionally, more English and German players have played abroad than Spanish and Italians. Quite the opposite recently though.

I can only think of Huth and Ballack in the recent past in the Premiership. Any others?

I wouldn't make the assumption if only you clearly showed what I was talking about but you didn't and you expect me to not think that you didn't read the previous pages
Here it is clearly: I THINK PASTORE SHOULD PLAY AHEAD OF VERON CAUSE HE COULD ONLY BE AN IMPROVEMENT ON THE BALD MIDFIELDER.

My fecking God! Are you doing this on purpose? or are you just getting confused or is it getting lost in translation? I know what you bloody meant alright.. That doesn't mean it gives you the right to say Veron does nothing for Argentina and he also doesn't, not give anything in comparison to Pastore either so your statement was completely wrong.. And as someone said anyway Pastore is more likely to be fighting Messi for a spot rather than Veron.. I hope you get what I bloody mean now!

Surpirsed AC aren't in for him.

They are Skint.. A friend of mine is very close to a Milan fan and he knows the club inside out and he told him they were skint and thus could not afford to hire a better manager and instead decided to go for a cheaper option and different kind of manager (young, ambitious, unproven) in Aglieri (spelling)

You had me till the Belgians part  Not really though..

I think you forget we signed one called Ritchie De Laet

What indications are there that interest in Neuer was anything but tabloid rumours?

I say that because it seems that Fergie has never been seriously linked with any German players. Schweinsteigger, Podolski, Lahm, Klose were very good players even 4 years ago when we were looking at those positions and we were never even close to signing them even though they were available. Even before that I can't remember anything, but I don't remember late 80s early 90's so may be SAF did try back in the day and I'm not aware of it?

We had couple of kids in our youth side, but they were just kids, they didn't have that German style of play drilled into them, they were growing up in England at an English academy under the supervision of a Scott. It's a far cry from picking up an established German star. I hope I'm wrong and we sign Schweinsteigger and Neuer, but Fergie's recent comments after the Bayern game don't fill me with confidence.

Don't worry. Most of us can tell you're not coming from a racial/national angle. Although weren't we in for Ballack?

We're never going to sign him.

We'll sign some good young and cheap kids from somewhere

You can't blame Sir Alex for hating Germans.

Who doesn't hat the war-mongering Nazis?

Are people really getting their hopes up about buying this guy? You're just setting yourself up for disappointment if you are.

Sir Alex hates bulges. Unless it's his own bulge. That's when he wakes Cathy up.

One problem any non German team could have signing him is that his fiance is a local hipster/it girl and has a very good life in Germany. Her sister is also very cool.

Would she really want to give all that up to start afresh in a new city where she is a nobody and has no friends etc?

Its certainly alot to ask from Mr Ozil ... esp if alot of his dreams and objectives can be achieved in Germany itself by signing for Bayern who will provide just as good a chance of CL glory as Barcelona or ourselves would give him.

If we signed him it will be great but we have enough player in his position.

His position being a "hole" midfielder...

Who exactly do we have other than Scholes?

You can't say Ozil plays the same position as Gibson, Fletcher, Hargreaves, Anderson, Carrick et al.

His role is entirely different.

Scholes has not played in the hole for about 6 years.

When United have played 4-3-3 recently in it's most recent guise we have tended not to play with such a player and have Scholes dictating the tempo with Carrick and Fletcher making up the numbers, all of whom have a certain amount of license to get forward and support the attack. Out of the three I'd say Fletcher is the one who makes the most frequent attacking runs into the box, but it's flexible enough for all of them to support the attack like against City in the CC.

The truth is United do not use a hole type of midfielder than often when we play 4-3-3 and Ozil is nothing like the type of player Scholes is now.

However, Fergie has used the likes of Park, Giggs and Anderson in that role to varying degrees in certain games over the last couple of seasons with Giggs the most frequent in the role IMO.

I'm not saying United would not benefit from signing Ozil as he could well improve United in the 4-3-3 we deploy and he is certainly different to what we have at the moment(Giggs has some similarities IMO) but finding similarities postionally between Ozil and the Scholes of now is lunacy.

SAF has never signed a Turkish player either, must be them dodgy kebabs.

So we're definitely not getting Ozil then with this double Turkish-German animosity.

The most recent big games united have played indicate that the manager is moving on from 4 3 3 and is going for a 4 2 3 1. Towards the end on last season against Liverpool, Arsenal, Milan Chelsea We used 4 2 3 1. In most cases Fergie used park in the "hole" or giggs.

For me this is the reason we need a creative offensive midfielder( Scholes can oo longer play in the "hole") just imagine if instead of the hard working park we played ozil or someone with similar attributes, how much more quality would be added to the team. A palyer which can create chances for others or make runs into channels. Such a palyer would add a new dimension to our attacking play, without compromising out defensive shape because of the 2 midfielders sitting behind him. having 2 holding midfielders would also free our full backs who would have more license to get forward.

The reason why i believe ozil would be ideal over other potential candidates is that we don't need to worry about his position when we play 4 3 3 or 4 4 2 because he would simply shift to the left wing, which has recently been a problem position until the emergence of nani.

I reckon he will end up at Barca or City. Would be a major coup for us but like many transfer rumours linking us to players (Sneijder,Benzema,Fabiano etc)......it more than likely wont happen! I think Fergie will go for that greek kid if he cant land Ozil!
