One thing that strikes me about Müller is how cool and unfazed he seems to be for someone that young and inexperienced.

German mentality they are not Man Childs like our players who need their Wags or get bored if they have more than half an hour to kill.

Well, Van Nistelrooy was also a bit like that... though more of an out-and-out goalscorer.

Hmm strange choice I kinda like it. He reminds me of a sort of young Steven Gerrard (not meant as an insult to Muller) playing here there and everywhere and getting goals from midfield.

If we can't get Ozil I hope we are interested in Pastore - this guy looks like a gem of a player he just looks so easy on the ball.

Hamsik and Ozil are in the £25m plus bracket no doubt. Not sure how much Pastore would go for but more to the point will he be interested in coming to us?

The guy that owns Palermo is insane so he wont be easy to deal with, plus if we bought Pastore we'd have to switch to 4-3-3 permanently to get the best out of him.

We pretty much play that anyway in big games and it's only Berba who will lose out at most.

This gus could be a gem - it's a cliche but he has the size to handle the prem. As to his skill pure class.

Any ideas what he would go for?

I just don't see Fergie switching to it full time, we still played a lot of 4-4-2 last season and we have young strikers that need games, that's the beauty of Ozil, he is versatile.

Pastore should realistically be valued at about £20M but given the president is a loon he'd probably want £40M.

I agree re Ozil but I think Pastore potential could eclipse Ozil. Ozil is that rare breed of young footballers with skill and decision making.

Muller is in the same class - he hardly wastes possession.

Pastore is wildly talented but he does not overdo it - there was this calmness about his play.

We need someone of that calibre as I don't see anyone with anywhere near their talent in our reserves or youth team. Scholes and Giggs cannot go on forever.

I don't disagree that Pastore is clearly a class above and if we were to make the full switch to 4-3-3 I think he'd be top of the list to play at the head of the 3 man midfield.

As it stands though a player that can drift and play from wide when needed would be the best option for us IMO.

Could Pastore play off the front man in a 4-4-1-1?

4-diamond-2

We certainly wont do it but that would be best for him, same as with Sneijder, Silva and the rest.

Was doing that for a spell in Palermo's last game of the season. Just linking up with flicks and backheels from passes played up to him in advanced positions. He did very well and was a threat. And the way he was playing almost reminded me of an in the hole version of Ibrahimovic.

The thing about playing behind the front man like that is, you need to do a real good job getting on the scoresheet. I've seen him take some goals incredibly well, but he doesnt seem to score many.

What a signing he would be.

We should be in for a player like him. Our competition has strengthened in the last two years whilst we have sold our best player and our best defender seems to be a crock. On the positive side nani, rafael and valencia have come on well.

We still need a worldclass midfielder tho. Atleast.

Would we ever find 'value' in a player we almost signed for peanuts though now?

He looks phenomenally talented, is versatile, 21 years old and is proving his ability against the very best at the worlds biggest stage. If ever a player was worth spending on he is it.

The diamond would not really serve to get the best out of Nani and Valencia though so I'm not sure the sacrifice would be worth it.

I'll be amazed if he's still at Bremen when the season starts. Most likely he'll just switch within Germany and move to Bayern who usually pick those kind of players up from other German teams, or at City who will want to build their side on talented players, other than that there aren't many options for him really.

Obviously. Its not for us - hence we dont really have a player of their type. We could play them in a slightly different position but not an optimal one, unless they are regular goalscorers and can therefore play as the second furthest man forward.

This is essentially why it would make so much sense to go all out for Ozil, his versatility fits with SAF's wish to keep switching between the two systems.

He is a top player, the formation wont matter, sure certain situations get the best out of him but he will still be good in it.

Big question mark is whether he'd be able to play 4-4-2 as we use this formation to break up smaller teams.

We ALWAYS play 4-5-1 against big sides nowadays as it can also change to 4-3-3 when we need goals.
The thing is that with someone as good as Ozil is promising to be, we may end up playing 4231/433 almost all the time, similar to Barca.

But even if we do play 442, he seems quite comfortable playing off the left wing. Don't know if he'd be suitable for a central midfield role though.

He's played left and right wing as his main positions in club football, before last season. And he is doing very well for Germany as one of their 2 most advanced forwards. Playing in a 4-4-2 is never going to be a problem for him.

Ala Mehmet Scholl he can fit in almost any system you can think off.

Our wings are sorted. Won't be happening.

Turned us down himself and went to Palermo when a deal was agreed between us and his owners in south america. He also dreams of Barcelona.
