He is top notch, hopefulyl United make him their no 1 target

Back in January:

He said: ''It's a big honour for me that such a great club like Manchester United wanted to buy me. But their offer came in too late - a day before the window closed - and I had already given Bremen my word.''

Seems like genuine interest, I hope so.

Well, sounds like we have some previous with him which should put us in a good place if we can afford to sign him now his price will have inflated after a fine world cup so far.

He would be perfect for us, and I find it laughable that some people are saying he won't be required at barca. Imagine this....

-------------Busquets/Toure----------------
---------Iniesta--------------Xavi-----------
--Messi--------Zlatan/Villa----------Ozil.

That team would be ridiculous. I just hope we pull out all the stops to sign him.

What an absolutely brilliant player he's going to be (already is!). Though he'll have surely bumped up his price another ten or so million after his efforts so far this WC.

TBF for us even 10 million is an unimaginable amount these days. Unless it is some unknown 18 year old in which case it is value.

Poppycock but, I guess till we pay over the odds for people's wet dream - these kinds of statements won't stop.

Not that Diouf, Hernandez, Obertan, Smalling, Valencia were 18 when we signed them but, since they aren't big names, United are just broke.

It's Ferguson having the final say in all these purchases, so if he doesn't see the potential - then why is he signing them?

Last season we had one "big" signing who was very good for us. There was the expectation that Berbatov would be better and provide more goals, who knew that Hargreaves wouldn't recover or that Carrick would be mediocre for the better part of the season after 3 good years helping secure trophies or that our entire backline being out of commission costing us the league?

The policy of investing in youth and potential players has served us well - the transfer window hasn't even officially opened - there is time. Doubt it's going to be Ozil though - his price has definitely gone up and he is more inclined to try for Barca than us.

Surley madrid and Barca cant get every single talented attacking midfielder on the planet. They are already overloaded with such players anyway. Im more worrried about city and chelsea. Both are looking for an attacking midfielder.
Hopefully City will get silva and we might just be able to compete with chealsea for ozil.

If we don't even try to sign this guy considersing he is exactly what we need, it would all but prove that there is no money to spend

I can even see Arsenal going for a cheeky bid if they lose Fabregas.

Just can't see it. That would probably be an unprecedented bid for them. I think Chelsea are the most likely. We'll make a bid I'd think but Chelsea will pay over the odds. Madrid could always do something stupid too.

He's got a year on his deal. It wouldn't take a ridiculous offer. To be honest what we need this summer is a playmaker who can play wide and that guy is ozil.

From the little I've seen of him - this world cup basically - he reminds me about Paul Scholes in the way he plays.

His passing ability, the way he finds space for himself, the way he seems to know where his team mates are at all times.

Very Scholes-like.

Very Scholes like yes, but he also has tonnes of pace to suit. The way he left Barry for dead (well i suppose i could have) and kept running at the English defence was just something else, imagine a midfield of Ozil, Fletcher, Nani and Valencia. Would just tear teams apart.

Barry was a disgrace. He played a massive part in the last two goals.

Ozil's pace is just a bonus - not what has made him stand out for me. It is his intelligent use of the ball and the way he makes himself available at all times that has impressed me.

Muller did very well too. Not as technical, but he's a smart player, a finisher and a great runner.

Is Cleverley the same kind of a player? Would be a bonus even if he only turns out half as good. Goals from a squad player is definitely welcomed.

Thing is this could be the one that we've been looking at all summer; unknown, unproven youngster - sounds exactly what Fergie is after these days

Obviously though the World Cup has happened and now everyone knows his name

I want him anyway

I'll be honest, during the CL I thought this guy as a striker was useless.

His football brain though is impressive, he is still only 20 so has plenty of time to improve.

He is the dog's bollocks or atleast has been this season. Doesn't come across as highly technical as others, has no eye catching pace, not so good shooting, looks frail BUT bags of brains in abundance, very aware of space, a quick thinker and an astute passer.

I was bitter after Bayern dumped us of the CL after I thought we were better than them in every thing BUT this lad caught my attention and he is just special. Obertan can learn a lot by watching him

It's not as if he hasn't had the time to watch other players;)

He wasn't unknown and he wasn't unproven. The WC just raised his price and profile higher

Muller is very under rated - he is quicker than he looks and has a very good appreciation for finding space and making astute runs.

He played well for Bayern either off the striker or out wide.

A bit of Zidane about him, the way he just eases the game to his tempo and takes it to the next level with his vision and passing. Would be the signing of the summer for whoever lands him.

Muller is such a weird player, looks shit and ungainly yet is incredibly effective and when he wants to can produce moments of great technical quality.

Which player in that past would you tards liken him to?

Well, Van Nistelrooy was also a bit like that... though more of an out-and-out goalscorer.
