Exactly. He would be exactly what we need and he's worth every penny they ask for him. Won't happen though, we will never ever pay much for a player, at least not under the Glazers regime.
Carrick, Berbatov, Nani, Anderson, Valencia.. Hargreaves

I think we could afford to sign him but then the real decision at the end of day will be with the player. If he rather have the sun on his back than the rain then it truly up to him.

We may have a chance to sign him if barca buy fabregas. Let's hope they do

Outstanding again today and exactly the type of player we need, I know most mock that value = cheap and maybe it does in our case, but contextually Ozil would be value at £25-30M IMO.

If we go for him and get turned down then fair doos i think people can live with that atleast the clubs showing an ambition and intent to sign a truly special young talent, its when we come out constantly whinging and making excuses about there being no value in the market and all this other horse shit that gets peoples backs up, it certainly does mine anyway, id say anything under 30 million for this lad, a 21 year old with supreme talent is most certainly 'value' for money.

This 'value for money' bollocks really is taking ze piss.

If £30 million for Berbatov is value for money, then £25million for Ozil is a steal.

Agree

I said he could be one of this generation's best players, but if he keeps progressing so fast he could surpass my expectations. It was 2 days under 1 year ago that he was destroying the England under 21s in their european championships, now its the main team at the world cup. Whats he going to be doing in a year's time?

I think Ozil, Khedeira, Boateng and Nueur were all in that German team. And from that England team we've promoted just James Milner. Perhaps thats the way forward, push our young players on to the main national team as quick as possible as they have done.

Johnson, Wilshire, etc. There's talent there but with the same old Gerrard, Lampard crap hogging the limelight they arent given the chances.

superb post.

These were days when an injury-prone and old Michael Owen wasn't even regarded as an option. Nowadays, it's going downhill and we won't have any major signings.

80 million pounds for Fergie to spend? Though luck if you fall for that.

We've spent 40 million in the past year. More than most, if not every, premier league side.

But don't let that stop you.

the kids gold, i just found it funny, he plays like he's sleeping too, so natural and confortable. Like he's wrapped up in a quilt without a care in the world.

Yeah he has the effortless ability on the ball where he seems to have acres of space no matter where he receives it.

I kind of see him play with a similar style to Angel Di Maria, but so much more mature and effective. Di Maria costed Real Madrid 35M, I would gladly pay 25-30 for Ozil, natural successor to Giggsy as well as an attacking option to drift centrally behind Rooney. Pretty sure he can play either flank.

Will be annoying seeing another potential star player be gobbled up by Madrid or Barca while we sit around moaning about value and the market being too narrow etc and resting on our laurels.

Unfortunately this is exactly what will happen.

And he never seems flustered or ruffled. Even when players go to kick him he's just casual as anything. I bet he sleeps 22 and a half hours a day.

Haha! He definitely plays with that aura that the special players have, if only he was to play in the red of United next season!

It wasn't/isn't/won't ever be good value to pay that for Berbatov. But the reasons we paid it have been done to death on here.

The reason(s) you lot bring him into every fecking thread even vaguely related to football are somewhat less clear.

Yup unfortunately it will, we'll probably go and spunk a combined load that it would take to sign someone like that on a couple of 16 year old unheard ofs (of which we could have used that money to buy Ozil or a player of that quality) which makes it doubly annoying for me as it proves the money is there its just we oddly chose to spend it on total unknowns over and over again ahead of special young talent thats shown hes good enough.

That’s what i don’t get in the midst of all this value nonsense, were strangely very happy to spunk tens of millions around on total unknown kids who weve no idea will be good enough or not yet we turn our noses up at true proven quality and young quality at that (whilst claiming we like buying young players:confused:) and whinge about value, wouldn’t we surely be better off with 1 Ozil for 25-30 million than 4 Dioufs/Obertans/Hernandez's and Smallings for 30?

I dunno what Fergie regards as value these days but it aint what the rest of the world considers value.

Ozil 25 million > Hernandez/Diouf/Obertan/Smalling 30 million

Whats better value there?

Having watching over the last few games he good look a great young player but have we been linked to him any speculation.

Well, if Rio remains crocked next season, and Smalling steps in and does a job, while Hernandez bangs in a couple of crucial goals, then it's obvious where the value is. Diouf and Obertan i'm still uncertain though. I see potential in the latter, but it would take something special to unleash his potential consistently. Diouf was signed fairly cheaply IIRC, might move on like Manucho.

Mesut rejoices.

Even if he cost 30 mil we should get him.

Won't get a chance to sign a chance to sign a top class youngster again soon.

He looks brilliant in this WC, but I'm always a bit iffy about rating players just in the national team. Especially Germans, there's quite a few in their team who always look like absolute world-beaters when playing for Germany but aren't anywhere near that level week-in week-out for their club teams. Schweinsteiger, Klose and (to a lesser extent) Lahm spring to mind.

Anyone seen him play quite regularly for Bremen?

absolutely brilliant player - would be a brilliant signing if we can afford him and he fancies it

Ozil and Schweinsteiger have worked their way to the top of my muppet list.

Ozil seems way more adaptable and better at the top level than David Silva and Schweinsteiger has improved tremendously over the last year. They seem physically equipped for the Premiership, too.

£70M for both of them? Too expensive? For me, no.

Net, mate. Net.

Last time I checked we raked in £80m for ROnaldo.

But don't let that stop you. . .

But that's hardly the point, is it?

Seemingly our net spend is not high. This isn't a Glazer thread. And I don't want to go there.

However, its a fact that we've spent 40 mill. That's enough money spent on players in 1 year. Which means we are spending a few quid. However we seem to spending it on 6 players instead of 2 big names. Hence most of this restlessness is seen simply because of the kind of players we signed rather than the actual money spend.

Which is why comments such as we're going 'downhill' in signing seem OTT

You more often than not get what you pay for in life, the best things in life cost more because hey ho their better than the stuff that costs less, it would be great if you could buy great things for peanuts but its just not going to happen.

If you want a top talent in your side then you have to pay for it like everyone else, like we did for Rooney all those years ago...i miss those days, not all this value cobblers.:(
