His off the ball movement yesterday was fantastic.. 2-3 times he made some clinical runs to go behind the last man.. One was when he missed the 1-on-1 and I remember a few others too but he was in wide positions and hence didn't have an opportunity to have a clean run through on goal again.. And I have noticed this in other games as well.. So that's another big plus to his game.

I have been very critical of Ozil since day 1.. I still feel a bit iffy about whether or not we should sign him.. But having said that, he has been the best player of this tournament so far..

He has that lazy look about him on the ball, very cool and composed most of the time but he lacks a bit of fight i think. I think he is so good at his age in a role that players arent usually great at at such an age is due to his calmness. Nothing seems to phase him, getting fouled, diving, missing a great chance, he does it all with the same demeanor.

What's the deal with his name? how is it actually pronounced, it's a Turkish name right? and the comentators seem to call him "ortzil or oRRzil" i don't know where the R comes from but if it's the correct pronounciation then fair dos.

The 'z' ist pronounced like the 'z' in 'freeze'

Here it is correctly pronounced:

(about 0:13)

He has been the young player that has impressed me the most during the WC. He could become a top quality player, if he's not one already.

Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea set for Mesut Ozil battle as Barcelona bid to block his route to England

Barcelona are weighing up a move for Mesut Ozil - just to stop the Germany star signing for Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester City.

Coach Pep Guardiola would struggle to fit the Werder Bremen playmaker into his starting line-up, but senior figures at the Nou Camp have been extremely impressed with Ozil's performances at the World Cup.

The 21-year-old is out of contract next summer and seems unlikely to sign a new deal given the interest from across Europe.

Ozil has plenty of admirers in England and has been mooted as a potential replacement for Cesc Fabregas at Arsenal, though he is more attack-minded than the box-to-box Emirates Stadium captain and has been dubbed the 'German Messi'.

Barcelona, the owners of the real Lionel Messi, would be interested if the price was right and could loan him back to Bremen for next season, according to reports in Catalonia.
Alexander Hleb, who was loaned out to Stuttgart last season, is a candidate to go the other way as part of an exchange deal.

I'd have him in the league just for the way his name is pronounced.

Ooooooozil.

It's sensual.

We may as well forget about this guy, even the tabloid hacks aren't even bothering to fake link us with him.

Ozil is a star already. Stepping up from Bremen/u21 to transforming your national side at international level. Remarkable.

Ozil could be a doubt for the game against England.

Football | FIFA World Cup? | Oezil hit with family tragedy | ESPNSTAR.com

Germany youngster Mesut Oezil has been hit with a family tragedy ahead of the second-round clash with England.

According to Bild, Oezil's grandmother has passed away two days before the crucial match and the player was informed of the news in the German team's hotel in Pretoria.

The youngster's grandmother has been reportedly plagued with health problems and died in the night from Thursday to Friday in a Turkish hospital.

There are now doubts if Oezil will feature against England as Germany seek to erase the memories of their 5-1 defeat to England in 2001.

Oezil, who scored a spectacular goal in the 1-0 win over Ghana and put in a man of the match performance in their 4-0 thrashing of Australia, has been the stand-out performer for the Germans so far in South Africa.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. Looks a very, very good player and at 21... so many years ahead of him. He's a type of player that would fit in very well at United and his ability and vision is exactly what we miss when Paul Scholes isn't on the pitch.

Much rather have this fella than any other player (bar Messi) at the WC.

Any team in the world would be silly to turn down Ozil, in so much as how good he's playing currently but at the potential he has to fulfill. He'll probably be better than Kaka was in 06/07 at a similiar age.

They have potentially a more promising player coming up and they've got plenty of ammunition up front.I don't see Ozil being able to force his way and play for R.Madrid, after all playing well in Germany is like playing well in Holland or France. It's not a guarantee of success and specially at the most difficult places for young players like R.Madrid

If you mean Canales he's on loan for a season and even after that he'll still be inexperienced. And this is Real Madrid, if he doesnt perform brilliantly in his first season as a Real Madrid first team player he could be shown the door.

Yeah.It takes more than just talent to make it at such big sides.

Which is why its great Ozil has more than talent and has gone beyond proving himself in the bundasliga and europa league, now proving himself to be one of the best players at the world cup.

Surely if we had to break the bank for any player, someone like Ozil deserves a look-in more than someone like Ribery? Well, that's assuming there's money in the bank... :(

He's the fecking truth, I don't care what anybody says, we need a player just like him, when we were misplacing every pass under the Sun against Bayern, he would have brought some much needed composure

Exactly. He would be exactly what we need and he's worth every penny they ask for him. Won't happen though, we will never ever pay much for a player, at least not under the Glazers regime.

I've just joined the "Bring Ozil to OT" Brigade.

He's just absolutely brilliant. It's sad to think that we probably won't buy a player we desperately need because he won't be 'good value' after this WC. If the money is there, break the bank and spend £30m on a player like that, or some other team will.
