In the other thread I questioned the desperation for Ozil even before Cleverly was being kept. If he is available for cheap and wants to come then worth a punt at least. There is quality about him for sure.

Still - I think if anything right now we need a player to back up Fletcher. Ando could be it but, will he really come back before end of October? I am skeptical after all the setbacks to players with long term injuries. Hargreaves I would absolutely love to have him back but, even this hargo-luva doesn't see him returning.

We are weak in central midfield when it comes to sheer grit/strength/power and that is where we need some reinforcement if anything.

I can't see there being any truth in the Barca rumours.

Me neither, I find it hard to believe that they are going to splash cash on a player that they'd use in 15 games a season.

Why does everyone keep saying Barcelona is a waste of talent? Sure he's like their 4th option after seemingly giving up on Mata and not getting Silva or Fabregas. But rotating 8 or so players for 5 attacking positions over 50+ games and injuries isn't exactly hard.

Him, Messi, Villa, Ibra, Iniesta, Xavi, Pedro will all get 40+ easy and then Bojan would still get plenty of time. It means they won't have to destroy Xavi and Messi all the time as Iniesta will be back to a CM now that they'd have Villa AND Ozil to do the left wing, Ozil can fill for Messi every now and then, Villa can up top giving Ibra a rest and Ozil/Messi on the wings, so many options.

Barcelona didnt want Silva. Why would they? They've been linked with Mata for the past 2 summers but we dont know anything concrete about that. At this point its all been rumours.

Mascherano looks to have burnt all bridges with Liverpool especially as they now have poulsen coming in and barca did want him last summer....

Seems more likely to me if they sign any midfielder this summer it'll be him to replace toure

I don't think we need him - Cleverley and Obertan would get much less chances to play, if Ozil is going to be in our squad.

Not if he's going to be first choice in the hole behind Rooney. Which you'd imagine, is the only reason he'd want to sign for us. To be first choice in his best position.

Cleverley certainly isnt going to be playing there, Obertan has had a couple of games there and of those most have been in the reserves.

Things changed since then. Young Giggs didnt had to compete with 4 wingers for a first team place, same thing can be said about Scholes. Correct me if I am wrong but I dont think that you could actually loan a player to another EPL side back then.

Giggs moved Lee Sharpe out of the team. If Tom Cleverley is good enough he'll get his chance and take it. He's almost 21, same age as Ozil. He's got bags of talent and was one the star players in the Championship last season. And he's English to boot! So lets start giving him a chance.
I remember watching a young Xavi in his first seasons at Barca, he was useless and the Barca fans just couldn't understand why the maneger kept picking him..

Midfield / Forward Players very likely not to be with us next year - Scholes, Giggs, Hargreaves.

So who is going to replace these 3?

Hmm, what would a frantic Ozil look like?

United will buy a midfielder(or 2), it just isnt going to be Ozil and I don't think we'll buy him who ever it is this transfer window.

Maybe 2? What've you been smoking?

We're signing no-one and the sooner people accept it the better.

So we'll never sign another midfielder? It's some kind of urban myth that we need to sign another midfielder nooooooooooowww.. We are saturated with midfielders at the club. In fact we are saturated with players in all positions hence Wellbeck being loaned out again. United would obliviate Bremen in the CL if we were to meet them. So don't underestimate Manchester fecking United.

Lol, wtf happened to the huge Ozil thread and how did it shrink to 2 pages?

I bet someone got banned for the wind up thread that he already signed.

Since the thread is deleted and this one is 2 pages, I take it there's nothing actual regarding Ozil?

Well thats a relief. As long as we can beat Werder Bremen.

 Eh? I was right, you have been smoking something.

I never said we wouldnt sign anyone else ever, just that we wouldnt sign anyone else this transfer window.

I'm not sure he would fit our system anyway. It seems his best position is playing in the hole behind the strikers. It's a position that we don't really utilize at the moment, and the same position Veron was most effective, but was rarely played in. It's also a position that modern teams rarely utilize, because the player will rarely track back, which might be quite a big problem in the biggest matches, where the midfield battle is fiercest.

I'd still be quite pleased if we got him on the cheap just because he is a good talent, and Fergie might be able to mould him into the team.

I personally dont understand all this hype about Cleverly who is a totally unproven youth player. If Cleverly is good enough, he'll find a clever enough to find his way into the team, if he's not, he's fade away.

Ozil on the other hand is already a proven professional and we just need to see if he can adapt to PL football and there is no reason why he shouldn't.

Not wanting to sign Ozil because you want a young unproven player to 'have a chance' is madness - and I do not think that will be the reason for us not signing him if that is what happens.

I don't understand why City are so keen to spend 30m on Milner when they can have Ozil for 12m. It's odd.

Ozil would only move to a top club challenging for honours, I'd imagine.

You could take that attitude with all youngsters and then where would we be?

I can't understand why everybody is jumping on those quoted figures?

There's been said numerous times that Werder have not received any offers. Those figures are cited by the press, which, as the 8m quoted yesterday may be utter crap.

I don't believe, personally, that Ozill would go anywhere for less than Khedira.

Fact is there's nothing known for sure about his price tag.

And Shitty are dickheads so it doesn't surprise me the slightest that they would go for Milner @30m.

Not really. The likes of Ince and Hughes were moved on for Scholes & co and all the way through to RvN being moved on because he upset the dynamics of a young squad and Ronaldo in particular. I loved the say Solskjaer, Giggs and Fletcher all forced there way into our team. SAF will always make the hard choices to ensure that his best players have a career at the club.

With Giggs, Scholes and Hargreaves all having to justify their squad places, there is ample room for some younger players to force themselves into the reckoning. Cleverly needs to be good enough to play for Manchester United. Thats all he needs to worry about. If he is good enough, a place will be found for him whether we sign Ozil or any other player.

I refer to my previous post on 't other page. If he's good enough he'll make the step, if not he won't. But you have got to give him a chance. If we buy Ozil then he won't get the chance. We should know better after this summer surely.

I'll add Ozil to the debate on the position in the hole now. The reason it works for him is that he does get on the scoresheet and he does make good runs to occupy the defence. If he went through a long goal drought and stopped his off the ball movement then it wouldnt work because you have to offer more to the attack than just passing and vision in that role.

Berbatov played in the hole in his first season and he did a good job with his creating and passing, but only scored 9 league goals and didnt stretch defences with his movement. Had he have scored more goals and been more mobile in his attacking efforts he might have been considered a success. And if we were to sign Ozil, he too would need to do a better job than Berbatov did that season.

With our current midfield we wont win the champions league...of that i am certain.

Im sure saf recognizes this but cant compete in the transfer market. I have a feeling that ozil doesn't want to come to us otherwise fergie would have snapped him up weeks ago.
