Mesut Özil

So you think we should have signed Villa, Ozil and Moutinho and sold Berba, Owen, Carrick, Gibson and Anderson?

And you genuinely believe that was viable?

Why not? Bigger changes have happened...

But no I don't legit think it was possible to get all 3 or realistically ever one of them I never really implied that either, but we still should of gotten maybe at least one of them, and with getting one of them leads to the sale of the whichever of the players I said.

What about the fact that certainly Villa and now seemingly Ozil only had any interest in playing in Spain?

Rubbish.

Admiring Özil and thinking he would improve our team immensely is nothing to do with muppetry, it has something to do with football knowledge and watching the Bundesliga closely. Muppetry is only thinking we are close to a deal when we are quite clearly not and when there is no sign whatsoever that he's close to a move to us.

As for his quality, you do not really believe that he wouldn't improve us, do you? He's absolute class, he's always been for Bremen and at United he would perfectly fit in. There's also a reason why we bid for him in 2008.

If we aren't interested in him, we are mad - it's as simple as that. The problem is that a transfer is not up to Fergie when Barca is in the running. You can't force a player to move to us against his will, and he himself has said for years that he's a Barcelona childhood fan. Even if they are not in for him, chances are that he'll rather stay at Bremen for one more season for several reasons than move to United.

well put.

I doubt we will bid although he would give us quality on the left side. He'd do what giggs/park does (play on the left but tuck in more centrally, without the defensive workrate of park) currently does but fergie will likely see the season out with park, giggs, nani, obertan and cleverly for the role and then if he hasnt moved and negioate a him on a free.

Key word - "seemingly", so basically you or I or anyone really doesn't know whether they'd want to play in England or not if it was a realistic option to them.

Well Fergie seems to think our midfield is good enough, and considering we missed out on the league by one point, I'm inclined to agree with him. Especially when you consider that at one point during the season we had first choice centre mids playing as defenders.

On the flip side of that coin, one could argue that having a world class option in central midfield might have seen United win the league by five points.

If the prices quoted are true then the money is clearly not the issue. I mean we can afford it whatever you think about the Glazers.

Either he doesn't want to come here or SAF is simply not interested because he thinks our youngsters are good and Ozil won't significantly improve us. And with SAF's record who is to argue with him really.

I'd love Ozil here. I think he'd freshen our team immensely and it would be nice to get one of the most sought after players in Europe once in a long time but i'll trust the manager on this one.

Did I say that we didn't want Ozil? I was thinking more of general muppetry than just this instance to be honest, we get linked to a lot of players the post would cover.

As for Ozil. I like him, think he'll become a cracking player and is a bargain at 8m, not sure where he'd play in our system exactly though as i'm not sure he could play in a central 2.

Your last paragraph is kind of contradictary, we should be interested and then you say he won't want to join us anyway, so what is the point? I'll just leave it to the man who has won us so much over the last few decades.

Hearing reports coming out of Radio Bremen that the weather is 16.1 degrees.

Sunny, cloudy, nippy and a few others, yes. Never heard the weather being described as '16.1 degrees.' Typical Germans.

people are going on as if ozil is some amazing player who is on par on messi. Hes not. An on form rooney shits all over ozil, and dare i say, an on form berba does to.

Who is saying this? I'm pretty certain, without reading the 99 pages prior to the first one i posted in that people aren't going this overboard. He's an available player at what seems a ridiculously cheap price, proven, plays for a physical nation with players who are known for their strong mentality and already has a good(or better depending on who your speaking too) world cup under his belt. And he's only 21.

An on form Berba shits over 97% percent of the world's footballers.

You know a off-form Berbatov is probably better than 97% of the world's professional footballers considering what you seen is only like 0.5% or even less, so that's not really a flattering sentence

Of course you are smart enough to understand that I am implying, when I say world footballers, those who are pretty known to us and that we can watch regularly. When we say that Messi is the best footballer in the world, we did not take him and compare him to every single one.
Anyway, Berbatov is definetly up there in terms of talent and when on-form can easily pretend to be in the top 10.

Well this is horrible news about Ozil and a move to Barca. Not because we won't get him bit because this thread might end before getting to 1,000,000 views.

Hard to believe there's a 100-page long thread, about a player that 95% of the people in here hadn't ever mentioned before the WC, and a player we've never once suggested we're interested in this summer.

At least the Benzema thread made sense...we were in fact interested in him.

This is just bizarre. It must be incredibly depressing in here?

The best we've seen of Berbatov so far in his career isn't even top 50 really so what makes you think he's a potential top 10 player?

It's fairly obvious United are in for him after Fergie yesterday, no?

(I'm new to this thread, so I assume that's been discussed to death already)

Well I've not been in the thread for the last 80-odd pages so I'm as out of the loop as you I reckon!

What did Sir Alex do/say yesterday that I missed?

You do realise when this thread was started, right? And that we have been confirmed to have been in for him before he joined Bremen?

Come on. Every year need its august transfer muppetry. This year have been especially lean (no one saw the Hernandez deal until it was done.) The result is that we have to fill the void ourselves.

Don't worry, the muppetry will run its natural route, reaching its peak on Aug. 31st, and then it will be time to focus on the football.

I also realise I was one of the few people on this forum to talk about him before this World Cup, in this very thread.

He was hardly talked about before the WC, with the only time anyone from here (besides the few Germans) talked about him in any depth when he played in the u21s. And there were a few people who talked about him then, but not many.

So hows about you leave the snide comments to yourself eh?

Bleh I mentioned him plenty of times in the Silva threads :(

What ?

Sorry but even the harshest of the critics towards Berba accept that he is a very talented players and you just have to watch his bursts of genius on the pitch to see that and I can assure that there aren't 10 strikers who have better first touch/vision/game awareness. His problem is that those bursts are not regular.

And that strikers are generally not judged as much on those things. Not if they arent also putting the ball in the back of the net very often.
