If your a midfielder i really cannot understand why you would sign for barcelona atm, not a chance of making that team. If Man utd are intrested and you can go there why not do without sun for a few months and make the most of your one career as a player.

I surely hope we can afford £8m so in the end it was a)SAF deciding he didnt want Ozil (like not wanting Torres) b) Ozil only ever wanted to go to Spain.

Yep, no Value. We bought Tosic for 7 million and Diouf for 3.5 but Ozil for 8 million is too much.

Germany is quite a bit warmer than Manchester. Heatwave this summer, hitting 39 degrees in some places.
 
To be fair, for £8 million you know we would have been interested, but if he wants to go to Barca there's NOTHING we could have done about it, value isn't the problem.

You can't put a gun to someones head if they don't want to come here. Unless the parties involved are Chelsea and Jon Obi Mikel.
 
£8m, rofl what an insane bargain. Ridiculous we didn't make a legit effort for him. NO VALUE IN THE MARKET!!! Yet Ozil, Villa, Moutinho and others have left for much less than I'd expect them to leave for....

He'll be at Arsenal in two years though when they trade him + £20m for Fabregas, Arsenal are the overall winners out of this.

There seems to be too many tweets and little stories coming out about Barcelona. It's very similar to Benzema last summer although on this occasion, as good as Ozil is, I don't think it matters all that much. Benzema was needed was summer and could have proven the difference but a year on we have Hernandez and things look better on the goal threat front. Ozil would have been nice, better than Gibson, Carrick and Anderson, but not essential to us winning the league back.
 
Telegraph are saying the same shit as was posted earlier.

If he wants to go to Barcelona it would matter if we bid 100m and they bid 8m. Value is not the issue. We don't have the divine right to sign who we choose. They equally have to choose us.
 
Jesus what sort of bench are Barcelona going to put out next season if they get him? I just can't see why they would want him.

And you know that how? There is no proof that a deal of any kind has been agreed regarding Barca, and the fee is guesswork. Not just you, many others too are jumping to ridiculous conclusions.

Has it been considered that maybe, just maybe, when SAF said he was happy with our existing squad that he meant it? And he's not been interested in Ozil at all? I know it goes against logic that a 100 page thread in the transfer forum of the caf wouldn't sway him, but the man is somewhat stubborn.

Indeed. I don't even think half the people on here are that bothered if we sign him. It's more about the hysteria of NOT signing him and pointing fingers at the management/club. It's quite frankley laughable.

His camp has stated over and over again that they think that Özil is that good that he would make it literally everywhere and that he doesn't fear the pressure. With Barcelona in the running, he was never going to move to us. It's only that some deluded United fans decided to close their eyes to the truth. At least in the last few weeks it was always a question between remaining at Bremen or moving to Spain. Never between Spain and United.

We were never interested, it's pure hype, Fergie has made this clear, but we SHOULD be interested, the midfield is our problem, we can name 10 midfielders all we like, but not one of them is a world beater, Moutinho and/or Ozil could of gone some way to fixing, they might have failed with us, but paying less for them two combined that what we did for Anderson on his own isn't exactly a bad risk to take is it?

I think the thing which severely hampered our title chances last year was our lack of class in central midfield and our over dependence on Scholes and Giggs. I remember around the time of the Bayern games Scholes was being played every 3 days because there was really no one else to replace him, and I don't think Cleverley and Gibson are ready to step up to make that kind of impact or reach a level of consistency needed this year.
 
I trust Honigstein ahead of that regurgitated Telegraph article.
