Again why? I don't see what he'd bring to the squad that we don't have already. He's not a Scholesy type of player. As the Chief said he'd end up occupying the same role as Giggs currently does.

In a season or two, when both Scholes and Giggs will have hung up their boots, he'd be more than useful to have around, as well as being well integrated into the team by then.

Of course, a couple of seasons after that, he'll probably be off to Barca anyway

A skilful, gifted young player, who can replace the ageing Scholes & Giggs?! Apart from those two, we haven't (currently) got anyone in the squad, who can produce those magic passes and has Özil's sort of creativity.

Carrick can supply magical passes to. As can Anderson when everyone notices the rest of is game and not the 1 or 2 bad passes he has every game. We also have another 3 skilful yong players coming trough the ranks.

Then you clearly haven't seen him play for Bremen..

He's very very creative, offers something a lot more direct than we already have in any of our attacking midfielders bar maybe Nani, and he definitely has many many more goals than Giggs and Scholes combined in a season!

fantastic left foot and a lot of creativity...

This is very true I have never seen him play for Bremen and like a lot of us on here I am making my judgements from the World Cup.

Anyway the Times are saying that Chelsea are favourites to get him.

Who have proven themselves in the top league over two seasons and in a World Cup?

Özil would not be a bad buy at all; even with plenty of youngster coming through. I see we have a problem, whenever Scholesy has a bad game.

I'm not saying he'd be a bad purchase. Ozil would have to prove it all again for United. Scholesy has had plenty of bad games for the last 3 seasons and we've been fine. It's only when our whole midifeld has been crap we've had hassles.

Right I get this whole convince Pep stuff now. Apparently the only player he wants is Cesc as he will fit into the squad and Guardiolas plans. After the failure to get him, the club have gone and found and alternative to Cesc but Guardiolas not interested and prefers his young players already in the team.
According to reports in Spain.

I don't believe you. You've still got the candle out for Hamsik. Liar.

Personally I'm not saying he lacks creativity. I'm just saying he'd play the same role Giggs plays. He is like an amalgamation of Giggs and Scholes.

nothing new that was posted as far as I could see, as wr8_united mentioned someone close to barca tweeted pep had the deal up to him and he turned it down in favour of barcelona youth.

with all the false reports and what not I'm just going with whatever becomes official. Ozil would be a great signing for any team, value aswell.

Oh, o.k., so I can continue to leave it out, right?

Oh I do. I'm convinced he would be better for the team than Ozil. We just won't be spending €30mil on him and I don't think he'll leave Italy.

Sounds fair enough, he has shown a massive amount of faith in the youth of Barcelona, not exactly unfounded either. Ozil wouldn't really add anything but a little depth. Fabregas would basically take over from Xavi and offer a good alternative to him or the other in the middle so you can see his reasoning.

Ozil should go to United in my opinion.

So, it's like 13 pages since I last wrote in the thread. Any development? In other words when he's unveiled?

This is what irks me, this semi-denial of "we won't/can't sign him so let's act like he'd be a poor fit in the team."

Incredible, isn't it?

He is the type of player we normally go for. Young, skillfull, an eye for goal and has the potential to be a great player.

Giggs & Scholes won't be here forever.

Looks like he's going to Barca for 8 million. There will be suicides galore shortly

Wow what an incredible deal for Barca.

But it makes no sense for Ozil whatsoever. Xavi, Busquets, Iniesta and soon Fabregas will be ahead of him. He'd be much better off going somewhere where his chances of being first choice are higher. Can't see it happening at Barca.

And IMO Pedro's a better option for Barca from the left because of the goals he scores. They don't even need a playmaker. He'll offer them very little that their first choice starting 11 doesn't.

Good, it can keep irking you. I believe we can sign him, so read all my other posts before jumping to conclusions. I've never said he'd be a bad signing or a bad fit for the team, I just think there's better options out there and there's nothing that he'd bring to the team that we don't hae already. I'd rather see Petrucci blooded, Anderson given a good run, and find out if Cleverly can reproduce some of his promise than sign him.

I've always thought his passing his very overrated, Carrick that is. Alonso at Liverpool was miles better as a passer.

To be fair Berbatov is probably capable of it, but doesn't do it enough at United. But yeah Ozil seems a really special passer of the ball, truly gifted in this aspect.

sure will, after Tosic and Foster are sold for 1-2 mill less.

Crazy value indeed.

Not like I'm happy about the situation (as in not having the money), but I've never once been convinced we were ever going to buy Ozil, for this exact reason. Yet this thread is 103 pages long, because people have got so wrapped up in denial....I'm sure the press stories have been whipped up by discussions such as this as well. We were never in for him.

Is he really going to Barca for £8m or it this a piss-take? I've not been reading the thread since yesterday morning.

At the moment god knows where he's going.

Paddy Barclay made the point today that ozil might not be suited to the Premier league, being small and slight. It's a fair point, teams like Stoke, Bolton, Blackburn etc. would be likely to kick the shit out of him, no idea if he could take that.

It doesn't work that way.

The player in his last year or end of contract will demand a signing on fee which the selling club would usually get. If a signing on fee is not paid/available then it is paid over the course of his contract. It is never a free transfer.

Well... if and when all that happens, be a good opportunity to see how strong he is up top. Being targetted has only made Ronaldo a better player for it.

Ozil posted some stuff about the CL on his Twitter account 22 hours ago..

Seems like great value at €12m. If the Spanish press are to believed this is already a done deal with Barca, the only things holding the deal off for now is Guardiola's indecision on committing.

Bearing in mind that Ozil only one year left on his contract with Werder Bremen, World Cup revelation come to Camp Nou for a bargain. Barca, driven by the desire of the player, has managed the transfer pricing in just 12 million euros, or nearly three times less than the club was willing to pay Arsenal Cesc.
However, before betting Ozil, Pep wants end to assess the pros and cons of the arrival of German midfielder.Although only 21 years, believes that Barca coach Ozil and be in a position of being the holder and, instead, he needs a player who can compete in office but which in turn is aware that part of the number 14 or 15 staff. And that Guardiola has his doubts about.

Don't ask me why.. but I still think we're going to sign Ozil, I just can't see why Pep will sign him especially if Fabregas is going to them in a years time and I don't think Messi would be happy with a rival left-footed playmaker in the side especially now that his game is more geared to occupying central positions these days.

It would also lead to Ibrahimovic leaving in my opinion as the idea of David Villa starting from the left and cutting in would have to be scrapped in order to give everyone a game, likes of Iniesta and Xavi, Busquets, Pedro... too many creative type players and to throw another into the mix especially when Cesc might also be coming is Real Madridesque and it would undoubtedly blow up in their face in two years time.

Keep the hope muppets, because I can't see him going to Chelsea either.. as it would threaten Lampards status as Chelsea's chief attacking midfielder and most likely he'd have to occupy the wide positions and as a club not notable for their development of young flair players.. I reckon he'd be stifled their and stagnate.

United is genuinely his best option, no player can rival him at this club for his ability to play in the hole.. he has only Nani to compete with on the left hand side.. faces alot of competition admittedly to play on the right cutting in.. can arguably develop into a deeper lying playmaker (can't see this happening myself yet) and learn from Scholes and Giggs.. two players that very much fused together resemble Ozil's playing style.

Keep the faith;) (hour later breaking news on SSN he's signed for Citeh).

When Carricks on form his passing is up there with th best.

He has decent long range passing, but hardly up there with the best.

Just compare him to Scholes for instance and he's a world away. Not meaning to criticise, just saying he is what he is.
