Rival and bitter United fans will say Messi is better.

If Messi played for United before Barca and Ronaldo played for Madrid all his life, everyone would say Ronaldo was better.

Ronaldo is simply the best player I've ever had the pleasure of watching. Ronaldinho would be second. Messi is a wonderful classy player but entertainment wise, he is behind those two by quite a distance I would say.
Mate, I think you had it the other way round.

I can understand your viewpoints on Ronaldo but how is Ronaldo even close to the other two when it comes to entertainment and sheer skill on the ball? Ronaldo is probably the greatest finisher ever but I don't know how he's better entertainment wise .

Some delusional preference towards Ronaldo in this thread, it's actually sad.

You won't find such discussions on any other neutral forum, sorry folks.

Only 6 more goals, whilst Ronaldo has 3 more assists
Oh yes the hat trick tonight but yes Messi still is leading in terms of both performances as well as goals despite playing far deeper and concentrating more on setting up teammates rather than scoring himself.

Tbf you can't blame the Ronaldo/United fans who do have a bias towards him but the unnatural love for someone who forced his way out of here to play elsewhere is a bit OTT. Also, I agree, I don't think I've seen any too many non United/Madrid fans and forums who actually think he's the better player.

You could argue about consistency but in peak form Messi was and is clearly superior. The solo goal away in the Bernabeu in 2011 (?) is enough evidence.

The entertainment is anticipating his goals. Plus when he was a youngster at United, he was fantastic to watch. A different player now but still. I found the stepovers, heel flicks, and robonas more entertaining than Messi running past 3 players and slotting it in. It helped that he was doing it for my team also.

Ronaldo simply because of what he's done for United will always be held in a higher regard by me than Messi.

Remember when people criticized Ronaldo for not showing up in big matches? He's certainly done that more then Messi over the past 2 years. Though overall, Messi is the better player for me. In terms of goalscoring they're about the same, but Messi can be the best play maker around as well, doing things nobody else can do, so it's pretty easy for me.

TBF they've both regularly been shite in big games, Ronaldo was feckin dire in both CL finals, was shocking at the Euros (that game against Poland was painful to watch).

Rooney, who I despise, is treated like shit in comparison with Ronnie. You know, the guy who wanted to leave in 2008.

It really is bizzare. As good as Ronaldo is, not enough fans recognise the sacrifices that Rooney and Tevez made for him. Benzema too at Real.

Funnily enough, Steven Gerrard says Ronaldo is the better player.

Oh Ronaldo at United was definitely very entertaining. I still find his 06-07 the best. He's become a mechanical beast scoring goals now but the player of that season will always be the one I enjoyed watching the most.

People are entitled to their opinions. I can totally understand the Adamance that people have when it comes to Ronaldo being better

I can't comment on their general performance levels as I've only watched each play a few times this season but I do find the stats interesting. If Ronaldo matches or beats Messi statistically along with outperforming him in the big games then it's going to be hard for Messi to reclaim the Ballon Dor based on the formula of previous seasons.

Ronaldo and Nani were terrific at Euro 2016. Not Maradona good, but hugely influential at pivotal times.

What sacrifices? Rooney and Tevez won the Premier League after Ronaldo, sure. But they never managed to win the Champions League after he left. You can thank Ronaldo for that one. Without him, we almost certainly wouldn't have won in Moscow. That was the only time we ever truly had the world's best player on our side. And then we sold him. We never reached those heights since.

Ronaldo was arguably their 4th best player behind Nani, Sanches, Pepe. He had some dire performances in the lead up, in that Poland game he missed about 50 sitters and was getting dispossessed constantly, was painful to watch. Was just an example that both have been very underwhelming in crunch games at times over the past few years.

He was immense in the road to the final. You are biased mate.

It's a massive over exaggeration to say he was dire at the Euro's, yes he had some poor games but he was pivotal in them progressing as far as they did with the games against Hungary and Wales.

Messi gets a lot tougher treatment and marked constantly by 2-3 players hence why he's been underwelming. I remember Mou once saying he would spend hours figuring out how to stop Messi.

One thing surprises me is how much space opposing teams give CR and most times he's marked by one player.

Will this thread forever be upped when Ronaldo scores a few important goals?

He will never overtake Messi. Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever. He's still ace tho

With no international tournament this time, I guess it'll come down to the CL. Messi has scored goals against Atleti this season, scored goals against PSG and a lot in the CL group stages. I won't be surprised if they give it to Ronaldo but there's no way he's been the best player this year.
Rooney, who I despise, is treated like shit in comparison with Ronnie. You know, the guy who wanted to leave in 2008.

I dislike Ronaldo but I won't put him down just to big up Messi and the reason players have made sacrifices for him is, well, because Ronaldo is the far superior player to them. I do agree though that the team is pretty much centred around setting him up to score as much as possible.
As for the Ronaldo love on here, I've said it often but I'll just never get it. It's all well and good talking well once you leave but all of the rubbish he did with the slave comments and not meeting Fergie and all the crap he did at the Euros really left a bad taste.

He was immense in the road to the final. You are biased mate.

Calling him immense in the run up when he was outshone by an 18 year old midfielder and Nani who has been ridiculed to death on here, yes, I'm the biased one. I'd ask you to go back and watch highlights of his performance against Poland, was one of the worst individual performances of the tournament. You lot are ignoring the part where I said "big games" as in games where their teams needed them to step up, not all games. Hence, he wasn't dire all throughout the Euros.

Playing wide to make him the focal point of the team, putting in 10K+ shifts in the big games, dropping into deeper areas, etc.

You saw how their outputs are affected by him. Rooney scored 30+ after he left, while Tevez was outstanding at City during his debut season and for Juventus. Ronaldo is lucky to have been blessed with such hardworking teammates who were willing to allow him to shine.

It took Ronaldo 6 years to win another Champions League after 2008, so that shows you it's not easy to win unless you play for the top 2-3 sides in Europe.

Think Messi was slightly better throughout their careers. But I hope Ronaldo wins the Ballon Dor. They're both goal scoring GOATS, they deserve equal awards.

I've got 2 cousins who are Arsenal fans as well as a bunch of different colleagues at work who are chelsea, spurs fans etc (only liverpool wont say it lol) just because some people are not on a football forum doesnt mean rating Ronaldo higher than Messi is just Utd or Real fans.

This just seems like another attemp to detract from Ronaldo, do you think the worlds best teams are naive enough to leave Ronaldo to his devices? The reason he finds space is because of his excellent movement.

It's a massive over exaggeration to say he was dire at the Euro's, yes he had some poor games but he was pivotal in them progressing as far as they did with the games against Hungary and Wales.

Could have worded myself better, didn't mean every game at the Euros obviously.

Messi needs to be marked by 2-3 because he's just that much more dangerous all game. He can dribble, assist, score and if you don't stop him you're done. Ronaldo has become pretty average at a lot of things now but is still brilliant at finishing. Not sure you can keep 2-3 men on him at all times when he spends so much time in the box getting at the end of chances.

We've not come to those heights because we invested stupidly. Losing Ronaldo and Tevez and replacing them with Valencia, Obetan and Owen is just stupidity. We still came within 45 mins of a CL title and within 1 min of another PL title.

I've never read so much rubbish in my life. Yes Rooney and Tevez were hard working and great players in their own right but you are completely undermining Ronaldo's contributions and achievements here.

Where would Rooney and Tevez be without Ronaldo? I doubt they would be Champions League winners. Also Ronaldo went onto win 4 Ballon d'Ors since.

There's no question about it. We stopped being the worlds best team as soon as Cristiano was sold.

Problem with your post was assuming what would 'everyone' say if Messi played for United first and Ronaldo for Madrid the whole time.

Also Ronaldo certainly wasn't immense on the way to EC final.

Thanks for letting us know we shouldn't take your opinions seriously after this post.

This. Nani was definitely Portugals best attacker at the Euros and they won the final without Ronaldo. He did well enough in the tournament but he wasn't their Top 2-3 players.

By goals against PSG do you mean 1 penalty?

Perhaps Ronaldo is just harder to mark considering his off the ball movement is incredible.

That had as much to do with our poor reinvestment of the money as anything else. We got to another CL final even without him.

I wouldn't say we "replaced" them with those guys. Berbatov was Tevez's replacement and Nani was Ronaldo's.

It was a massive blow to lose them both in the same window and although we won the league twice after that, it showed a complete lack of ambition in my eyes. If we want to be the best in the world, we need to keep a hold of our best players. I would say our only "world class" signings since have been RVP, Zlatan, Pogba and De Gea.
