He was their best player tonight by a fecking mile
Some achievement that in a game where Barca scored zero goals and pissed away a three goal cushion. A pathetic performance from Messi, and Barcelona as a whole. He's supposed to be their talisman and he didn't deliver anything of value.

But it was opened after Messi's performance in the first leg? Makes no sense then, just subjective vote farming by the mods

Yeah call them out for their hypocrisy but it doesn't change the fact what happened tonight.

They actually went on to bottle a 3-0 lead, unbelievable.

Absolutely useless performance by Messi again, when the going get tough, Messi goes missing.

He was the last player deserving criticism tonight but he hid in the last 15 minutes imo, he should have been getting the ball deep but he just walked around near the box fenced in.

Keep telling that to yourself, maybe you convince yourself that he is shit.

Messi Mashed on Mersyside :lol::lol:
Seriously its getting to the point its actually blasphemus to suggest theres such a huge gulf in class when it comes to Messi vs Ronaldo.
Walking,Hands on hips,hardly tracking back.
Hes no leader.

Hard to blame Messi for this, though, is it? Barca play bad in both legs. Scores two goals in the first leg and puts two men through on goal in this one. If any of them score, we're talking about 1-2 assists in this game.

You can make an argument for Barca bottling it, but you can't make an argument that Messi didn't score or create in both legs.

The poll is closed after this choke fest ? Point proven in the bias here but ok

Embarrassing, Messi can’t be the goat when he can’t show up when it matters. Even though I m a big fan of his, he doesn’t have the passion for success as Ronaldo does. Ronaldo at least has showed he is capable of showing up in pivotal matches.

Messi is a bottlejob. He is a great player but if I had to go on a war I would choose ronaldo

CR7 GOAT-for-life.
You just cannot be the GOAT when your team gets "reversed" two years in row...

Is this debate still a thing ? Poll or no poll true fans know who the best player is and it has shown again and again and again.

This Barca team are shite. Vastly overrated, been dug out of a hole by Messi time and time again this season but this was one step too far tonight. Suarez, Alba, awful tonight.

Three assists tonight waisted.

That doesn't take away the fact that in the last 10 minutes of the game the ball was around him and he was walking.

Walking to save energy? for tactical reasons? to prevent injuries? because you want to mislead the defenders? I'm okay with all of that, but you can't miss a ball in the 89'th minutes, and watch how Sergi Roberto presses the defenders while you walk around and turn your back on the pressure, there's NOTHING else to play for at that moment and still he doesn't try...

Don't expect people to acknowledge this. If he doesn't singlehandedly win the match when all his teammates play shite, then its tantamount to failure in their eyes.

You can't reason with illogical people.
Also missed and easy chance first half in the box.

the reaction in here is beautifully predictable. absolutely mental, but still.

That's exactly it. When Barcelona were on their knees he went completely missing. He was great until the second goal, albeit without affecting the scoresheet, but he completely disappeared from the game when Liverpool got back into the tie with the second and third goals. A truly great player stands up and leads his team from the front through thick and thin. Messi isn't that player, and it's why he's bottled so many tournaments. A gifted genius, the most mesmerizing player I've seen, yeah, but there's more to it than just talent when it comes to actual greatness.

In terms of talent he's superb simply a brilliant player, but he doesn't have that mental edge to top GOATs have, when the going gets tough he can't be relied upon.
