One thing is for sure, Ronaldo dropped a clanger joining Juventus. It's made him lose the debate this season, probably the next seasons too. Can't see him doing much at the next Euros or World Cup, either.

In hindsight, maybe. But he joined Juve, who has been a top 4 European team of the past 5 years - their UCL record as proof. What is it, 2-3 finals in 5 years or something?
So had his signing pushed them over the line this season (no doubt they signed him for that reason mostly), during a period where Madrid needed a rebuild and Bayern. Albeit, there’s a rise of some English clubs challenging, there’s no super power in European football atm and the competition was as open for someone new to win it, as it’s been for a while.
So had they beat Ajax, as was expected, and Ronaldo pushed them to the final and even a win - the move would have been considered genius and probably he’d have received another Balon d’Or. In a calculated move, he basically put all his eggs in 1 basket. But this year might have been their best chance as Madrid/Bayern will both strengthen. The English clubs are proving to be stronger and stronger. etc.

Gerd Muller wasnt just any old player, he was one of the best players in the world for nearly a decade. And if youre implying that Gerd wasn't a key player for his teams, you know that he scored 10 goals for Germany in World Cup 70, scored the winning goal in the 74 final (also scored the goal that took them to the final), scored 570 goals for Bayern, won 3 European cups (scored in 2 finals)?

I think Juventus signed him primarily for commercial reasons, though it helps that Ronaldo is a beast in the Champions League. Likewise, Ronaldo considered Juventus to be among the favourites for the trophy so he joined them in an effort to further his legacy in addition to making more money.
This is all well and good, can't say either Juve or Ronaldo did something stupid here. If Juventus don't win the CL in his time there, the move is still a success. The club will definitely enjoy more popularity now with the CR7 brand, which means more money and altogether a higher standing in football, and the player will make the money he wants along with winning a different league. If they end up winning the CL, all the better.
