Even if Portugal goes out today Ronnie still deserves ballon d'or. He's scored 4 goals so far ffs.

Carried due to stronger players. His supporting crew almost bailed him out again today but unfortunately wasn’t to be.

Messi’s NT career cannot even be compared to Ronaldo’s

That's the same as saying Quaresma and Eder are carrying Ronaldo to internatiol success. Such a petty thing to say.

I'm using the official metrics, you're using something entirely subjective. Let me see your spreadsheet where I can see what goals and assists count and which don't.

Depending on stats as they're then ? Don't complain then when we brings numbers of goals, records and trophies in Messi vs Ronaldo comparison (and most of them are in Ronaldo's favor) and say "we shouldn't take stats as they're, there are more to it". I doubt it as you're probably take the side of the argument that suits you the best even if it contradicts another previous one.

I think people will remember 2018 as more disappointing for him than 2014 due to different reasons.
Which people and why?
They were 2nd favorite to win it and nowhere close in 2018 performed like expected.

Ab

Absolutely right. How dare he claim to be one of the best if his country can’t even produce decent defenders?

Yep. Pathetic centreback pairing from two tiny unheard of clubs like....erm Man utd and Man city.

How many predicted Argentina to reach the final in 2014 prior to the tournament ? They were a good team, sure, but not second favorite before the tournament.

Do you even know what would suit me best? I'm not a hysterical cheerleader who has to pick sides and talk down the other. I'm grown up enough to appreciate both players for their quality and realize that they aren't even playing similar roles.
Pulling up one stat and saying that this settles something is usually not a smart idea, taking one stat and altering it towards your own arbitrary bias and thinking it holds any or even a higher meaning is stupid beyond belief.

I don't pick any sides. You're talking things out of your mind.

I'm saying what I see on the pitch.

And there's only one who took things that suit him only stats wise.

They were 2nd favorite odds wise before kickoff.

World Cup 2014: Outright Winners Odds
Brazil 11-4
Argentina 9-2
Germany 6-1
Spain 13-2
Belgium 18-1

That's a fair point of argument but before the tournament if you asked most fans I don't think they'll have backed them to do it, I think most will be saying Brazil or Germany, but that's fair.

On paper its better than Portugal
4-2-3-1
GK
Mercado Otamendi Rojo Tagliafico
Lo Celso Banega
Messi Dybala Di Maria/Pavon
Aguero

It may be on paper but people don't realise that there's no cohesion or tactical discipline in that team, and they don't provide a solid enough base for Messi to do his best work. On the contrary the Portugal players are better organised and seem to know their roles which gives Ronaldo a better structure to work from.

I suppose after tonight we close this thread till the champions league knockout stages next year?

Ronaldo and Messi both knocked out on the same day. Am confident both will be back in 4 years time to have one final shot at WC glory

Messi has never shone in any environment other than the Barcelona team that's built entirely around him. This WC was his last chance to show he could do it without the supporting cast. The argument is settled for me now.
Messi has got them to three finals while winning the golden boot. How else can you shine?

Banega and Lo Celso are not exactly attacking. they both play deep. Do spain have a hard tackling midfielder?

Yeah Busquets it's a great tackler, but the thing he heas is the best positional sense in the world, you don't need to tackle when you can cut every chance almost before it happens.

Banega defending, ask in Valencia or Sevilla around that, and if you want to see how good is Lo Celso there, you can also watch the first leg vs Real Madrid, it was a slaughter

Ronaldo was just as crap... Maybe worse, apart from having better body language.

Cronaldo with 3 shit games and 1 good. Still being hailed on this forum:lol:

Messi; 1 best player award at the world cup
Cronaldo; 0

And Ronaldo wasn’t? Pepe and Patricio were MASSIVE for Portugal.

Argentina’s second best player was mascherano much like Portugal’s was Pepe.

To say they don’t compare is laughable

Hopefully this thread can feck off now.....

Until the La Liga season.
