Memphis | Manchester United Sub | Officially unravelled

He's not like Nani where you can switch him left to right, but we could keep him around to keep Martial fresh or when Martial has to play up top. If/when(?) Martial becomes our main striker and Memphis hasn't turned the corner in his development, then move him on.

With Adnan's progress stalling, we don't need to be shipping off any young forwards unless they're replaced by a big name.
Like Memphis will settle for that kind of role.

I just don't see it in him, You see a young player and they either have it or they don't. You can't teach the ability to dribble to somebody, his passing, touch and decision making is inconsistent aswell, but tbf i see alot more in Janujaz and Perriera than him, i hope we start giving them more chances instead of giving this overweight idiot gametime.

He was the first and only player this season at United to make me say "Ooooooooooow", when watching us play. Having said that, overall he has been quite shite. However it wouldn't make sense to sell him already. He is still a young player adapting to his new surroundings.

Overweight idiot?? His physique is the last of our concerns.

I will give him the benefit of doubt this season. Next season however, there should be no room for mediocreness.

He might not be overweight but he's too bulky.

Christ, this is going to turn into the Anderson thread. Some players happen to be stocky - in the States they call them "fireplugs' - but all the players have their body fat carefully monitored. A persistently overweight player wouldn't get near the squad.

Having said that, I can't think of a single reason for keeping him around. He has shown absolutely no signs of improvement and, probably more importantly, he seems to have a "football IQ" that is negative (if that's possible).

You see more in Pereira based on a handfull of senior apperances, most of which he came on late on. Whatever you see in Januzaj, that you don't see in Memphis, i'm guessing you've not seen in this season and barely in the last one either.

He's had a pretty terrible year bar a few good games against terrible opposition. I'd still give him more time though, we gain nothing by selling him and we definitely won't be making our money back.

Who knows what a (potential) new manager might get out of him?

Not that I'm suggesting United might be changing their manager in the summer, mind...

But those fireplugs turn into running backs.

Memphis? Is he still at the club? He has a nice motor - that Rolls Royce Wraith but that's where it ends. A total flop. Normally I'd give him the benefit of a second season like I was prepared to with ADM, but Memphis' attitude and body language says it all. Get rid.

The thing you say about Pereira is interesting. I for sure see much more quality in him than in Memphis: close control, passing with both feet, free kicks (something we were told Depay is so good at). IMO Pereira has the tools to be a very good player in the future and I wish we've given him more game time this season.

In Memphis case I see a lot of aspects of his game he has to improve massively. And that's the thing. I would rather give Pereira playing time as I think it's more likely he will make it here than Depay.

I know wingers are meant to take risks and try to beat a man.. Their success rate may not be great but Depays is terrible.

Some epically stupid posts in here. Who the feck writes off a 22 year old after one season in a new league? By all accounts he has a tremendous work ethic behind the scenes and a high level of ambition.

People just don't want to give players chances to develop. If it was left up to the fan base, some of our best players would have been turfed out before they hit it big.

A massive number of fans wanted Ronaldo gone after his first season. Too greedy, makes the wrong decisions, no end product, etc.

It was meant as a criticism. My Point was that, for all the tools he has as you say, we really know very little about how he'll fare considering he's barely played any football at senior level. I have high hopes for the both of them but it's really difficult to gauge the ability of our attacking players under Van Gaal.

Your last point is pretty irrelevant as they're not in contention with each other.

Someone like @Adisa had doubts about him even before we signed him,and clearly stated the reasons why, especially based on what his qualities where and what people supposedly thought they were getting. Not everyone is necessarily being knee-jerk about him . Sadly some of those fears have been justified.

Calm down .

I never said he hadn't been shit. I said the posts saying we should give up on him already are fecking stupid, and a sad indictment of the kind of impatient over expectation fans tend to place on young players.

Now go back to your Adisa cock worship.

Think the problem is his attitude, not his skill. He clearly loves trashy gangsta rap music and models himself on its main stars- i'm guessing he put all that muscle on to look like 50 Cent and the Game, not because his coaches told him too. The sooner he realises he's a footballer and not a rapper, the better.

I don't want him sold. Not yet. Clearly has talent but has been a bit dogshite this season. How many players have flattered to deceive before having good seasons (no examples ready, but there must be some..?)

First part i think is spot on. second part not so as i'm sure there are many people, myself included, who like rap but don't try to live the lifestyle. Plus i don't recall any articles about Memphis hanging around moss side etc. Liking the music and dressing like the artists is different from wanting to be a gangsta. Although I do feel a bit of dejavu with Ravel coming on with memphis in the sense they forget they're footballers rather the image they're trying to portray

Memphis will come good. He's only 22, lets not condemn the lad after one season, especially when you remember what impact Luke Shaw's injury has had on his performances.

Shaw likes to get forward more which forces the full back to stand off Memphis, giving him more room to operate with or run into. We'll see some better performances when Shaw returns.

That's just a huge assumption. You really don't know anything about him to come to that conclusion.

What we do know however, from his time on the pitch, is that he's utterly useless against any half decent team which includes most of the PL. We have far better players than him and young players with more potential.

We should cut out loses and let him go. Nowhere near good enough.

 This post is an utter cretin.

He's not going to beat Martial for the left wing spot though, so he better learn to play on the right or as the #10.

Apart from Martial who would that be?

Cut our losses how? By selling talented players at their lowest? By creating another hole in the squad that we'll have to repair in the summer, buying another talented player to fail and sell after a season?

You sound like an idiot

Knee-jerk all over this place. Give a young player the chance to settle - another season won't hurt and there have been occasional flashes that demonstrate their is a really talented player in there.

Know him well do you?

Because I've heard he's a very hard worker and is really determined to succeed. Media image of him is hugely exaggerated.
