We're surely not going to 'ditch' him. We'd get considerably less than half of our money back and there is a good player in there, he just needs a bit of patience and someone to make him feel important.

That's what would've been written about Di Maria, a year ago!

We're telling anybody who'll listen that we're willing to sell him on the cheap

I know that sounds crazy, but it wouldn't surprise me if that's what we are doing.
Apart from Ronaldo, we always sell our players at bargain basement prices.
If I was the owner of another club and buying a player from MUFC, I'd want a half price discount, right off the bat. Anything less would be failure on my part.

He's he did. His shooting stats were ridiculous in terms of attempts. The thing is in Holland defenders gave him just enough space to get his shot away.

He did great against the Dutch teams. Player of the year last season.

In fairness, when he played against Brugge, Midgetland, Shrewsbury - he did well.
In other words, when playing lesser opposition (similar to what he played against in the Dutch league), he is very effective.
But the moment he plays against a better class of defender (like in the EPL), he is "neutralised".

I think he will stay at MUFC, simply because he won't get a better deal anywhere else (financially). So, even if the MUFC manager tells him that he will never play for the first team again, he'll stay and run down his contract (like Anderson, remember him?).

It really does depend on how ambitious he is. Is he happy to play in the reserves (and get paid big bucks) or will he ask to leave, to get first team football, improve his ability and then get another move to a big club to display his talents. Only time will tell.

I want him to stay but it looks like Martial will be on the left for the foreseeable future. Memphis will not improve on the bench. Unfortunately that's where I see him spending most of next season.

This would be ridiculous, if true. He's 21, ffs, in his first season in the PL, under a shit-stick of a manager, denied minutes because of a wonderkid like Martial.

We know what he's capable of on his day. We know the flair and talent are there. Wait for another season and more reasons, I'd say.
He's 22.

Hope the story is true. As @Adisa says above left wing is Martials position and Depay is going to be stuck on the bench. Plus I'm not sure he even has the required talent to ever be a starter in a top team. Hope we don't persist for years and years hoping he comes good like we have previously done with other flops

I feel a bit sorry for Memphis, despite his faults. This is because I suspect that LVG & Giggs have their favourites (and a vested interest in making sure they succeed or, at least, get the most playing-time), and because the press have declared war on Memphis for the terrible crimes of being flamboyant & owning flashy cars. Twats.

I just came upon this video.
This was Ronaldo's first game for MUFC, in the league.
He is playing the same position as Memphis.
Ronaldo was 18 (Memphis is 22) and to my eyes, he showed more in this one game, than Memphis has all season.

Hardly a surprise given that Ronaldo is one of the best players of all time

It only takes one of LVG and Giggs to express doubts and that favourite-status withers. I'm sure that van Persie was also one of Louis' faves too...

I agree Memphis is an easy target but by all accounts Giggs took him under his wing. If Giggs has given up on him, it makes sense to sell.

Fair enough, but if one has doubts about Giggs' coaching abilities then it's easy to side with Memphis on this matter.

IMO that performance against Arsenal at the Emirates was really damaging. Ever since that game, he's barely played and it looked like LVG lost faith. I just hope the Giggs stories aren't true because of they are, it's curtains.

That is one way of looking at him. Especially if LVG and Giggs are both gone.

He shouldn't be sold, while it doesn't look good for him now its only been one season and he could still turn it around.

What would have happened if situations were swapped? Ronaldo played under the best manager, the best team, one of the best periods in Fergie's reign. Some players were like stars under Fergie. Ronaldo would suffer in this current United.

Harsh comparison imo.

The biggest issue with Memphis is that he can only play in one position and our best player is occupying that spot. He probably is also behind Lingard (who I don't rate high but is very useful in different positions).

Personally I don't see bright future for him with us. He would have to improve massively.

Mahrez barely got a mention in his first season in the PL last season, see no reason why Memphis can't turn it around next season especially if another manager is involved

Memphis' biggest problem is his mental fortitude and his off-field attitude, which in no way can be compared to Ronaldo'. Only the fact maybe he drives around in 300,000 dollar cars.

In the warm up. Memphis, Mata and Morgan were doing some passing right in front of me. Memphis is just not great player. Even Morgan S looked better technically than him.

This is why it looks bleak for him IMO.

He just looks like a one trick pony to me and even that is ineffective.

In Holland did he always just cut in and whack it? Might work in the championship but most premiership defences will close him down sufficiently.

I wouldn't sell him but I'd still rather Adnan got his chance ahead of him.

Why do people still say this? The fact is Neither should be at United because both obviously have shitty attitudes. Januzaj has done nothing since he made his debut a few seasons ago. It's obvious januzaj wont ever become the talent we thought he was based on those first few games.

Januzaj should sold this summer, memphis should have one more season to prove himself.

Lots and lots of stories about how Giggs started mentoring him and coaching him individually and apparently, even he's gotten sick of him.
Are there any reasons as to why Giggs is fed up? Is it because Memphis' attitude is crap or there is just not enough talent for Giggs to work on?

Let's be honest, we're unlikely to get more than £13-£14 million for him.

A bang average squad player winger goes for the same price these days so it's surely worth keeping him next season to Add to the squads depth.

If he's still playing like shite, sell him in 2017 when he'll still have 3 years on his contract and his value will be about the same as it is now.

Man managed terribly IMO and it's shot his confidence to pieces. I'd say I was shocked to see some of our own fans wanting him sold in the summer but I'm really not, some United fans are terrible when it comes to being patient with players.

Hopefully get's a chance under a new manager next season and manages to gain some of his confidence back on the pitch and find his feet.

Wouldn't be the first player to be surprised by the demands of the Premiership. Wouldn't be the first to shut up critics in his second season, either. Not to mention that he made his start in an uninspiring United side that barely managed to create a single chance over the course of a match. Should definitely get another season to prove himself. Unless of course he has a shitty attitude according to our staff.

A striker like Ruud at his peak would struggle in a United side like this.

It's really not fair to judge an attacking player due to the inherent structural weaknesses of this United side. FFS we have gone entire games without having a shot on target.

Ive always liked his attitude on the field he seems like a fighter. The talent is there he just needs to develop his game on a personal level. He's got no euro's this summer so after he has his blow out in Vegas or wherever he goes he best be putting overtime with his ball skills and fitness.

Where is he going to play though? He is only capable of playing one position and it belongs to our best player.

I still can't believe LvG didn't try him as the main striker again after the Watford away game, this was long before Rashford came on the scene, and there was ample opportunity to do it.

No way should we give up on him so soon, he has clearly got a lot of talent, if he still hasn't shown alot more this time next year then fair enough move him on, but it's way too soon just yet.

Always looked a bit overweight to me. He's been a shocking signing. No more effective than Bellion or Obertan.

Martial and Rashford are not suffering. So what makes you think a young Ronaldo would have?

Also people need to stop comparing Depay to Ronaldo. Not even worthy in the same sentence.

I wouldn't sell this Summer. But another season like this and he'd be on the market.

We tend to let players overstay their welcome here, then get peanuts for them .

It's funny reading the first few pages of his thread now. He was overhyped beyond reason. Setup to fail. I don't think he's good as some people proclaimed him to be .(NL Max) . The Dutch league is a poor one and the players from there tend to be hit and miss. However you do find a Suarez in the rough once in a while.

He needs another season. That, for me, isn't in doubt. His performances have been a massive worry, though, as he's shown a real lack of guile and game intelligence. He seems confused that he can't just cut back in and have the space to get off a shot. I can only hope that'll improve massively with confidence and more game time.
