I like that top video... While last season he showed how good he is a goalscorer, it's good to see that he has that creative and flashy side to him as well, capable of going past a few players at will. Now you just hope he finds a good balance between the two and doesn't become just a pure goalscorer (purely for entertainment purposes probably, though how he plays will depend on what we need I guess).

Not really watched anything of him but impressed by those clips. I like that he seems to be able to play left, center or right of an attack and although he is right footed has a great left foot as well. An attacking player who can use bothfeet. What a novelty!

I have read and heard people say it. Anyway that's not the point, its just about him being rated so highly when from what I have seen it seems over the top. I will await the abuse for daring to say a United signing doesn't look as good as people are making out lol. Im sure he is thaWhat would Jesus wear? He'd surely be a striker given his ability to get onto crossest good, as everyone cant be wrong, I just haven't seen it myself yet.
I don't know what criteria you are using for how good a player is but for me it's all about end product. 28 goals in 38 competitive appearances is what matters in the end. What's the use for being flashy when you've got a very inconsistent end product like Nani?

Even Ronaldo under Mourinho toned down his flashiness to make way for end product.

The thing is though, that Depay has the creativity and flashy-ability even ignoring the end product. Last season (at age of 19-20) he scored 12 goals and got 7 assists in the league, but he averaged 2.7 key passes per game and 3.2 dribbles. This season, he has 22 goals in the league in 29 apps, with 4 assists, but he averages 2.1 key passes with 2.7 dribbles per game. His numbers for both of those seasons are better then anyone else in our squad (Di Maria has 2 key passes and 1.7 dribbles this season, coming closest), while in the league, Hazard has 2.6 key passes and 4.6 dribbles, to put it in perspective (or his last season in Lille was 2.4 passes and 2.7 dribbles - very similar to Depay). Obviously, stats like this don't show it all, but it shows that despite getting so many goals, he's still a very creative player and still more capable of going past players then anyone at United currently pretty much.

I realise that a lot of people are excited and making him out to be the second coming, but, until he proves himself in Man Utd colours I shall reserve judgement.
He has been great in the Dutch league - no doubt about that. But didnt Blind get Dutch Player of the year last year? And he certainly hasnt been EPL player of the year. EPL is a different animal.
I've seen many failures at Utd (Falcao, being the latest). Depay may yet join this list.

I'm expecting him to be at a similar level as Januzaj, so in his first year, I expect him to play only a few games and I certainly doubt he is as good A.Young (who currently plays for us).
I guess this is merely "shiny new player" syndrome and after he starts playing for us, the euphoria will die down and we will realise that we have signed a decent player, who may or may not deliver.

Oh and BTW, we already have a better player than Memphis - his name is Di Maria and he sits on our bench.

Re the goal in the video above, it's a very James Wilson kind of finish. He's scored a shitload of almost identical goals in his time at the club.
Agree, there appear to be a lot similarities between them, e.g. fast and good goalscorers. Hopefully they will both be versatile enough to play across a front 3.

Are you always this pessimistic? Also aren't you already judging him when your first sentence said you wont until he plays for us?

The problem with Blind is that he's 25 years old, and doesn't have any particular physical attributes that stand out, so that's why he's been pretty good, but nothing great, and that's why he probably won't ever be a key player. Still a good signing though.

Depay on the other hand just turned 21, and has scored 28 goals while playing as a winger this season (Bale's max in his career was 26, Muller 27, Reus 23, Hazard 22, Robben 23, etc..). I could be wrong (somebody correct me if I am), but I think that only Neymar, Messi and Ronaldo have scored more goals in a season (for the past like 10 years or more) while playing as a winger then what Depay has this season, which is pretty crazy when you think about it considering these are the best players in the world at the moment basically. So you or anyone else can say just the dutch league all you want, but it's great numbers to have for somebody who was 20 for most of the season and just turned 21. He's also scored more free kicks then anybody else in europe I think this season. Oh, and he scored 2 goals in his first 2 games in the World Cup. Not bad eh?

And the league you play in doesn't change how fast or strong you are, or how good you are on the ball, and that will alone be a huge improvement to us as it's something we lack. It might flatter his goalscoring stats this season (as he's obviously not on the level of Neymar et all), but he has huge potential for sure and is clearly a very good player already. Saying you expect him to be on a similar level to Januzaj is doing him a massive disservice

Even on the youtube showboaty/goal clips, there's a lot of stuff going on that would be best advised not to happen in a United shirt...but there are also aspects about him that I find exciting...and we do definitely need someone with genuinely scary pace.

Reading some of his interviews though, I somehow doubt he'll be doing anything to improve the intelligence levels in the squad. Which wouldn't be important at all but for the fact we're already overstocked in the braindead department.

As long as he makes the right decisions on the pitch that does not matter much.

Is it true that he won't be playing PSV last game as he is scared he might get a injury that can break down his transfer? Read somewhere on facebook

I think he has our medical schedule for sometime next week?

Not he, PSV and our club won't play Memphis on their last game because it doesn't mean anything and it's a 100% synthetic pitch which is not ideal and they won't risk the transfer on such a silly game. At least that's what is being reported.

Are you more likely to get injured on astro turf or something like that?
There are various studies highlighting that the incidence of ankle sprains is much higher when playing on a harder surface.

BBC say he will play.

He will play for PSV in their final game of the season on Sunday, then travel to Manchester for a medical and contract signing on Monday.

Somehow the transfer fee went up from £21m to £31m. Weren't dutch media saying 30 to 32m euros?

Cannot wait till he's sat next to Louis in a press conference for Utd.

This may have been covered but what squad number do people think he will have? 9 instead of Falcao? 11 if Januzaj goes out on loan (would be harsh but not sure Januzaj deserves number 11 or is quite ready to live up tp the hype of carrying that number).
The 14 would fit well with him being Dutch

When is his medical and all that stuff?:)
Memphis Depay: Man Utd to complete £31m deal next week

Manchester United are expected to complete the £31m signing of Netherlands winger Memphis Depay from PSV Eindhoven next week.

The Premier League club agreed a deal for the 21-year-old with the Dutch champions last week.

He will play for PSV in their final game of the season on Sunday, then travel to Manchester for a medical and contract signing on Monday.

Depay, who has scored 21 goals this season, will sign a four-year contract.

United are understood to be paying an initial fee of £24.6m, with a further £6.5m due in performance-related bonuses and additional payments.

Depay, who has 15 international caps, played under Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal for the Dutch national team.

Van Gaal claimed United were "forced" to sign the player early because of interest from French Ligue 1 leaders Paris St-Germain.

:)

The BBC is full of loons. How do they consistently keep getting euros and pounds mixed up?

The British media inflate the price every time we sign a player. Ridiculous.

Just saw one of the worst photoshop jobs in history on Twitter but Di Maria has been Memphis'd.

True that. Some people are multi-talented in different forms of intelligence (e.g. The Neviller on MNF). Maybe he is not the brightest based on the interviews, but perhaps LvG saw that he has good intelligence on the football pitch, where it matters, for footballers. To me, I think it just him being shy and not used to it, yet. I mean, even Giggs, Becks has media training in their earlier years.
