Memphis Depay is starting for PSV right now away at Ado Den Haag despite claims that he wouldn't play.

Is he really? Yuck.

Imagine the uproar should he get badly injured.

Yeah, same formation as last week (and most of this season). The pitch does seem to be quite poor, doesn't help that the home fans (I think) seemed to have thrown something on it earlier (could not make out what) and so there was a delay before kick off.

That burn spot was from a failed fireworks show before kick off

He's still playing for topscorer, otherwise de Jong might overtake him.

Hard work and training ethics aside, is it just me, or does anyone else think he's overrated and has been hyped up too much? He's just a younger, flashier and more self-confident version of Ashley Young, is all I can see.

Much much more productive. In fact that comparison is ridiculous.

And just going to put hard work and training ethics aside? I'd say they are two of the most important aspects of being a footballer.

Nope. He ticks all the boxes of a super talent: physicality, hard working, mentality, good shooting and flair.

1-0 ADO :(

Since when did Ashley Young have the potencey and skill that Depay clearly has? Even on his day Ashley Young just does a job. Depay is a game changer.

Didn't want to be substituted in the 82nd minute, went off eventually :D

EDIT: unless de Jong scores a hattrick in the last 5 minutes Memphis is the youngest topscorer in the Eredivisie with 22 goals since Ronaldo. Not bad for a winger.

Productive in terms of goals and assists in the Dutch League? If yes, then two words: Jozy Altidore. We really don't know how he'll perform in the Premier League or the (feels good typing this out :D) Champions League.

Young works extremely hard on the pitch. That's not really an upgrade on Young.

You would definitely have a more informed say in this matter, and Depay is definitely very good. But I personally don't see anything to tell me he is on his way to being a world-class player. Not yet, anyway.

Though I concede that Depay that shown more tricks up his sleeve, I'd strongly disagree with the bolded part.

Okay, let me clear something. My argument isn't that Depay is only a trifle better than Young. My argument is that we're perhaps overrating him based on his performances in a Dutch league and his flair. Quite a large section of the caf seems to be convinced he is going to be a guaranteed starter for us, and that he'll definitely be a game-changer of a player for us. What have you based this on? His potential in the Dutch League? A couple of outings in the World Cup?
The boy's got some quick feet!

He's certainly not making it easy for my viewpoint.

The Dutch league argument again? Absolutely any league anywhere in the world has had good and bad imports to the premiership. Suarez? Van Nistelrooy? Any name that came over and didn't perform, I can give you one that did perform.
If we want to make a direct comparison, and even that is purely speculative, but would Young score 20-plus goals in the Eredivisie. Or let's compare Memphis and Young's productivity next season. But even then Memphis will be in a new league and young.

Yes Young does work hard on the pitch. The hard work I'm talking about is the type that transforms your game. The type Ronaldo had to want to be the best in the world. That work rate.

But remember, it was you who out aside hard work in the first place. I think you need players of both ilks, the honest solid players who track their runners and then the ones who work hard to be the best in their positon or best in the world.

From the improvements Memphis has made over the last 48 months and the little interviews I've seen, Memphis has that drive to be the best in the world. It is something he wants and he will do his hardest to get.

Fair enough. I can't disagree with your post. I guess time will tell whether he'll be just very good or proceed to world-class.

Ashley Young is one of the best LW's in football and it'll be almost impossible for Depay to take him out our lineup.
anyone?

He can leave that hat in Eindhoven.

Agreed. If he plans on wearing that hat in Manchester he turn round and go home. Our squad looks beautiful getting off that bus with the likes of Mata, Blind and Herrera. That hat would ruin it completely. Do we really want that disrupting the squad?

Has anyone seen the butlins advert. I was on my phone and when it said "Dream, Believe, Achieve" I look up and shouted "What!?"

So basically that's £25m with a possible £6m in bonuses. Not bad.

I don't get how the English media still haven't read VI, the initial fee is 27,5m Euro with bonuses leading up to 32m Euro.

It's 21m up to a maximum of 25m as pointed out by dutch media. They're confusing Euros with pounds. Marcel Brands said he wished he got as much as English media is saying.
