Memphis | Manchester United Sub | Officially unravelled

Could have been a win-win situation if we sent Januzaj to PSV on loan as part of the Depay deal. Would have been a good place to get some regular first team football.
I just hope lvg rates januzaj as highly as everyone else at the club and the fans do. If that's the case then it's fine or them go on loan wherever. Don't want him frozen out or anything like that though.

Brilliant pace, physically strong and can score from long range.

His twitter followers is 268K. Im expecting it to hit around a million in like a week.

I still have hope that Di Maria's impact could be sensational next season, although not on the wing. Makes the hunt for a proper Box to box midfielder all the more important.
Agreed, he was a revelation for Real in CM and the box-to-box would probably give LVG enough comfort to sit Fellaini instead of Herrera or Mata.

Haven't seen him play too much, but I get the Dutch Zaha vibe from him :nervous:

I've seen this kid play three times and got a different impression each time:

  • International against Greece - decent, solid
  • international friendly against Italy - not world-class but a lot of quality
  • Eredivisie game against Ajax - a bit wasteful

So I'm hoping for the best. I don't think we overpaid in any case.

Marcel Brands (does the transfers at PSV) has said no Manchester United player is involved in the deal with Memphis. He also stated before he's interested in loaning Januzaj - but it isn't the only option to replace Memphis. It might happen, but it'll depend on Adnan and van Gaal.

Yeah, I thought the same thing too. Now that we have Depay, it will be very difficult for Januzaj to find a start on the first team and that's not really ideal for someone like him. And besides, it's not like PSV's approach is foreign with Van Gaal's vision of football seen almost anywhere in the Netherlands.

18 pages already? You scoundrels.
Know next to nothing about him apart from regularly seeing his name crop up on Caf wishlists.
The fact he was wanted by other clubs, is young and only 20m is as good a sign as any for me though. Just because of the two former points I could've seen us spending 30m+.
Also echo that it's good to see us firm in the transfer market before it's even opened. A good sign of intent.

Admittedly don't know too much about him, will have to do the dirty and resort to some Youtube videos. Certainly looks like a talented player though, and still very young. Players who score lots of goals in the Dutch league and come to the PL seem to end up being absolutely brilliant (RVN, Suarez) or awful (Alves). Hopefully he's the former.

Some would argue he isn't that pacey and not one to try and beat a full back.

Delighted with the signing, can see a lot of Eden Hazard in him.
SOME are very wrong then!! Just watch his games. He's going to be a United great (ok getting a bit carried away with myself here)....

Thank for the info - would be an ideal club for him to go to next season. He really needs to go on loan to a club like PSV to develop his career. He'd get games there and possibly become a standout player for them.

Heard the news at lunch time earlier. Happy with this, though It doesn't come as a surprise. It's definitely an area where we needed something different, and it seems like Memphis will give us that. Certainly seems like more of a wide forward, or a more direct winger which is something we currently lack. Haven't seen too much of him, but I remember being impressed at the world cup last year. He's clearly had a good season since. Good age to join, with room to grow. Already knows Van Gaal and what he expects from players. Yep, this signing ticks a lot of boxes. :)

Get in there!

However, Depay hasn't actually signed yet. Isn't signed when he has done his medical and signed a contract. I

Read that he was given a round of applause at the PSV training ground. Would love to see a video of that.

Never in doubt! @NL Max :D:nervous:

I think the thread title should be a bit more exciting though, seems a bit low key.

I didn't understand a word in that video other than the fact when he mentioned Manchester United but still I have seen that video like 4 times.

Depay and Gundogan would be a lovely start to the summer. This is the type of news we needed after our last 3 games!

Can't say I've seen that much of him but certainly stood out in the World Cup and seems to have a lot of talent.

With Depay along with Januzaj, Pereira and Shaw we have an excellent group of young players coming through.

Excellent signing! Really happy with this especially if we've bought him for around £20M :)

The Memphis Depay deal is one of the worst kept secrets in football.

I think the lad is great signing for us. He has a good understanding of LvGs methods and he is at a very high level for his age. He upgrades our attacking options all the way across the frontline and is much younger than Nani. He is a good signal of intent and clout as well because other big clubs like PSG and Liverpool were interested. This is the first time in a while we have bought a really hot prospect who was in demand and I am very excited to see him in our strip. There is no official figure but it appears to be around 25 million quid which is a great price as well (Lallana went for more). We need to keep building negotiating power and becoming better at bargaining. I love the fact that we are doing our business very early, it shows strong management up top and hopefully we wont be dragging our feet any longer (I remember pulling my hair out about Moyes dallying on the Thiago transfer). Good signing. Now lets tie up our ECL qualification which I am fairly certain will secure a signature on De Geas contract.

Yeah, what's with the less than enthusiastic thread title? looks like a scouser wrote it.

Brands (Technical director of PSV) says PSV already had an agreement with PSG, he thought Depay was heading there. 48 hours ago, United became concrete and now the deal is done and dusted, so Depay was probably waiting on United, just as nl Max said, choosing between United, PSG, Liverpool would be easy for Depay.

Looks a United type player. Could be a good signing with room for improvement

Hope he is given a chance by the impatient ones on here, if he hasn't scored 20 goals and made 15 assists by this time next year, suppose we'll have the usual rubbish being pumped out

Went to check his injury history.

2014/15 - one groin injury from September 15th to October 22, missed 7 games
2013/14 - injury not specified on the May 4th, missed 1 game
2012/13 - malleolar injury from November 1st to 6th, missed 1 game

Not too bad, though obviously you can't rely on that when it comes to Manchester United.
We'll find something. Gave new players rib and back injuries. He maybe can get land badly in training and mess up his shoulder.

Have a look at Shaw's injury record at Southampton's. Then Ashley Young's at Villa. Then weep.

Awesome news. feck off PSG, it's up to the player to choose where to go it's not a first come first serve
