SEG interview with Depay:

How did you experience the last few weeks with all the speculations about a possible transfer?
'It was an exciting and pretty hectic period, and to have a choice between so many top clubs doesn't make it any easier. For me, Manchester United is an absolute dream club, so I didn't need any convincing of the guys who already play at Manchester United’, Memphis says. ‘They told me only positive things though, and I'm looking forward to playing with my Dutch teammates next to all the other great players of Manchester United. And working with manager Louis van Gaal again is also a big bonus.’

A lot of clubs were interested in signing you?
Yes, but you shouldn't believe all the rumors in the media. In the end it was just a matter of feeling, not a matter of money.

Didn't you consider playing with PSV in the Champions League?
I've learned so much at PSV, not only on the pitch but also as a person. That makes me grateful, but I really felt it was time for me to move on. And you can't deny the interest of a club like Manchester United. I’m proud of winning the title with PSV. It’s something the fans deserved, and something I wanted so bad as well. I wish the club all the best for coming season, and hopefully they’re lifting a trophy again next year.

Your agency have had a busy couple of weeks?
Not only now they have been busy. Every day we work together on the big plan. Of course I also would like to thank SEG Football for the last couple of weeks, but I really appreciate them for always standing by my side and helping me dream, believe and eventually achieve.'

Kees Vos and Kees Ploegsma worked together on helping Memphis to get as much information as possible to make a final decision on his future.

Kees Vos: 'Memphis joined SEG at the age of 16 and by then we already recognized the huge potential he had. It makes us very proud that Memphis developed so much since then and always lived up to the expectations.'

Kees Ploegsma Jr., who has worked together with Memphis intensively since he joined the company, is obviously very proud of his client. 'We will have a medical soon and a lot of paperwork to take care of. Memphis realizes that this is just the beginning, and he has to work really hard to make sure that a lot of memorable moments will follow.

Bit of a RAWK-ish post; however, can't help but compare this with the Hazard transfer

Hazard choices: United, City, Chelsea
Depay choices: United, Pool, PSG

Hazard in transfer year: Winner of the league in France
Depay in transfer year: Winner of the league in Holland

Hazard age in transfer year: 21
Depay age in transfer year: 21

Hazard position: left wing
Depay position: left wing

Hazard goals: Second highest in Ligue 1 (2011/12) with 20
Depay goals: Top scorer in Eredivise with 21

C'mon, I'm not that deluded or obsessed right? :nervous:

English media translated alot wrong. We've been interested from the start - why would van Gaal inform at PSV otherwise? He would have known everything about him except the price. Memphis just checked his options at PSG and Liverpool first (he was free to talk to all clubs with his agent, once he had decided PSV would make a deal with the club he chose), but we've kept it quiet very well. Only yesterday evening did it leak that Memphis had talked to van Gaal, this morning it was a done deal.

Monday I posted Memphis would have 3 days off training this week to complete the transfer, Woody just went and f*cking did it

Good call Max, well done mate! :)

I was worried that something in the air at Manchester United will turn Di Maria to shite when we first signed him(as a joke). Now that joke does not look so funny at the moment with his current form. Hopefully, something like that does not happen to Depay. He might not be in the same class as Di Maria, but he has the enthusiasm of youth and perhaps slightly more mentally strong to overcome any impact by our coaching staff to his moral and confidence.

Nevertheless, great signing. He should become a world beater from what I have seen.

I thought Evra signed a new contract just before we signed Shaw? Again I have nothing against any of the signings really, I think they've all improved the squad. Shaw without doubt should have played more of a role but that would put Blind on the bench as he's been a disaster at DM. I like Rojo but he's probably no more likely to establish himself at CB than Jones or Smalling (he's made less appearances than Falcao) I still want Di Maria here next season but the excuses people are making for a £60m player at peak age, to be benched by Ashley Young are incredible. Again, apart from Falcao, none of them have been disasters and I'm glad we have them all if I'm honest. But while Chelsea were signing Costa and Fabregas, we were improving our bench or wasting record amounts on two high profile players that have ended the season out the first 11.

Anyway that was all very off topic and it wasn't my intention to be negative about Depay. By all accounts this could be a decent bit of business and I look forward to seeing him at the club.

I think Evra only signed a deal so that Juventus would have to pay us a few million for him. I might be wrong, but I seem to remember that there was never any prospect of him staying.

I think the big difference between ourselves and Chelsea last summer was that they already had a strong team and squad, so everyone could identify exactly what they needed. On the other hand, we were very much in transition, with another new manager, who wanted to drag us away from 4-4-2 and up-to-date with modern football. The signings van Gaal made were never likely to make the kind of impact which Fabregas and Costa - as the final pieces of the puzzle at Chelsea - were likely to make.

This summer should be different though. Now, van Gaal has had a whole season with the squad, moved on some dead-wood, brought in some of his own players and also had an opportunity to see where else he needs to improve the team. We're all pretty sure that we wanted a new winger, a centre-back, a right-back and maybe another midfielder and striker. The season hasn't even finished yet and van Gaal has gone out and solved one of those problems with one of the most promising young players in Europe. Have faith in the manager and maybe we'll see us challenging Chelsea next season. I'm confident.

£20 million.
This was a highly rated young player linked with PSG and Liverpool.

Great piece of business especially wrt the price.

Now I'm no expert on Depay but I have heard he can play as striker too, with that in mind could we now not see us signing a striker this summer, Rooney, RVP, Depay might be enough?

Or am I talking rubbish?

He never played as a striker before, only a short spell at the right wing in his youth days but he prefers to cuts inside from the left wing and he can roam around at PSV. He isn't really van Gaal's type of striker in that he can play with his back to goal and link up play. He's only 176cm tall but he's built like a tank so van Gaal might find a different position where he can play, right now he can only play left forward in a 433.

That's funny. I wonder how the PSV fans feel seeing that? I'd have seriously mixed emotions if I saw all our players giving De Gea a wee cuddle for getting his dream move to Madrid. Obviously, we're talking about a much bigger leap in quality but still

Dutch clubs can't hold on to their best players, that's just a given. I'm actually happy one of our youth products gets to prove himself at a huge club, especially the one I support. We always hope our best players make it across the border, away from our 'mickey-mouse league'. We've got a good fee for him and he really is ready for the next step, I'm just happy he made PSV champions again before he left like he said he would. It's good for the national team too, we don't have many great players in top competitions anymore.

Dutch clubs can survive by selling, the circle of life around here.

He says ; 'mooi is', that means :nice is, you can translaye 'mooi' differently. So in a sentence translated ; je ziet *** *** mooi is = you see that's nice/good.
Cheers for clarifying that. That was very Moyes of you.

Having his house burgled and dealing with all of that won't have helped Di Maria (qnd his family) settle. The League is also probably tougher than he thought physically. He's got time to turn it around and you'd hope that his quality will eventually shine through.

Really happy with this signing! Always happy to see young attacking talent and I don't mind the increasing Dutch contingent at all.

Good price, done with no hassle and he's chosen us, which is always good.

Very happy it's been done before the end of the season, might just give some of our attacking players a boost for the last few games.

Sounds like we actually got a bargain for once!!

Not seen much of the lad but hopefully it means we might be more attacking next season and he doesn't end up shackled.

I'm late to hear this, but very happy about it. I think he's a great signing, and especially sweet as just this morning a Liverpool-supporting friend told me of his hopes that LFC would get him :)

Hopefully he can make the step up, I think it's important that we as fans don't expect him to fly out of the traps and give him time to get adjusted to a much better level of competition.

I fail to see any parallels.

Ahh what a day. Didn't go online this morning. Found this out old fashioned way, listening to the radio. My ladywoman had to pop out of the car for a few minutes so I turned on the news to find this out. I was all giddy and excited when she approached the car. I waved to her to hurry inside the car again. She's just had an operation so she can't move quickly but she did the best she could. I told her the news, she wasn't giddy and excited, rather annoyed, but who cares, we're signing Memphis Depay! I was starting to believe these Liverpool rumors.

--------Rooney
Depay-----------Di Maria
-----NEXT--Herrera
--------Carrick / (NEXT)
Shaw--NEXT--Smalling--NEXT

Aye, take Suarez for instance. It took him 18 months before he really started to score goals for fun like he did in Holland. And he was a little bit older than Memphis, had scored more goals and signed for a smaller club with Liverpool.

Robben & RVP, they were massive talents but they weren't carrying their teams consistently until they were 26 years of age. Although both having huge problems with injuries during their career played a big part too. Memphis is a wonderful prospect, but it would be naive to expect him to be instrumental in his first year at Manchester United.

Just followed him in Insta, man is hench, serious man boner.

Step aside Daley and Ander, new fav player alert.

maybe United wanted him signed just before UKIP get elected and bar all foreigners....

Sounds like an exiting player. I like his mentality from what nl max has posted. Pace and goals from wide positions could really improve us next season. Nice start to our window.

---------------Rooney--------------
Di Maria-------Mata----------Depay

Is it going to work something like this then?

Suarez was the player that sprung to my mind as well first and foremost. If Memphis has a 10 goal first season and can cement a starting place ahead of Young then that will be a great start.

Swap Di Maria and Memphis (call him this ;)) around and it could work. If he can't cut inside and shoot you're limitting him alot.
