Player he most reminds me of is Alexis Sanchez, which would be perfect since Sanchez is the one attacker we really should have signed last summer

I still have hope that Di Maria's impact could be sensational next season, although not on the wing. Makes the hunt for a proper Box to box midfielder all the more important.

Yeah, he's sort of similar to him and if he could produce to similar extent then he'd be an incredible signing for us.

A few years back when I was on another forum, we were actually able to trace back a transfer rumour to it's source.....the source was the very forum where someone had created a thread asking what people thought of that player. From there some writer mentioned the player had become a subject of discussion on the forum, then as it progressed to various other writers within a week or so it became that United were about to sign the player (we did not).

It was quite funny.

I think that was this forum and it was Kaka being linked with us, wasnt it?

Yes, I'm sure that the Cafe was responsible for that as well.

Whether it was us or ANO place they have been found out. The newspapers, don't know anymore than the next person they are done.

Either the journalists need to get better contacts or they're just brilliant at trolling scousers everywhere :D.

I know one lad who will be delighted !

What's the deal with this?

NL Max has become the Caf's Phaseofplay

How many tags? :)

C'mon, I'm not that deluded or obsessed right? :nervous:

11 tags :D

Depay is another example that english media is clueless and don't know what LvG will do in the summer. According to them that deal was off and PSG and Pool were favorites, now he is a United player like I expected
I only care about journos from the other team which is involved or the country of that team, could be wrong too, but if they report something, there might be interest from us. All those "journalists" in England are really annoying.

English media translated alot wrong. We've been interested from the start - why would van Gaal inform at PSV otherwise? He would have known everything about him except the price. Memphis just checked his options at PSG and Liverpool first (he was free to talk to all clubs with his agent, once he had decided PSV would make a deal with the club he chose), but we've kept it quiet very well. Only yesterday evening did it leak that Memphis had talked to van Gaal, this morning it was a done deal.

Monday I posted Memphis would have 3 days off training this week to complete the transfer, Woody just went and f*cking did it

Nope. The next pertinent question is when does he do a Ronaldo and leave for Spain? :D

Yea in it, is it good news he becomes a top player and leaves the ship, like DDG will probably do is well. Seems like players like this if hit their potential the rats come out of the holes to take the best players. No wonder it's hard to win European cups, with clubs like Madrid always setting us back.

This signing will prove if the clubs like us can actually keep these type of players, Sanchez and hazard seem to be the acception, well he was not needed at barca, so that's not a great example. Hell will freeze over if a type of player like this won't play for the circus when he reaches his potiential, especially they will look to replace Ronaldo in the next 2 to 3 years

Exciting signing.

For me depay is the most exciting youngster in europe since hazard.

Great that we sign him for 20million which is brilliant piece of business for a player of his age and talent.

That's funny. I wonder how the PSV fans feel seeing that? I'd have seriously mixed emotions if I saw all our players giving De Gea a wee cuddle for getting his dream move to Madrid. Obviously, we're talking about a much bigger leap in quality but still

It's different with Dutch clubs. Everybody has basically accepted that the biggest talents move on to top leagues.

Great news to see this wrapped up early. Hope he can develop into a real world class player here.

Great signing, Terrific prospect signed early at a reasonable price whilst pissing off the Scousers. What's not to love?

Anyone who thinks that United isn't a big deal because of a poor season or two should watch that.

He's talking like he can barely believe what has happened. No spectacular quotes, so I'm not going to translate, but by the way he talks you can see that it has made a very deep impression on him. Which is nice to see, because he always being portrayed as arrogant.

How did we get him for only £20m? That's a fantastic bit of business.

Was he in the last year of his contract or something?

Nah, the dutch are just more realistic when it comes to tranfer fees

Apparently he averages a shot once every 16 minutes!

Under our tactics it'll be a shot every 93 minutes now :(

Seriously though I'm absolutely overjoyed at bagging him, he is already a good player but he has the potential to be world class. He's part of what we are missing currently a player that has pace to burn and can beat his man.

It's more than that, including future bonusses it's about £24m, plus PSV have a sell on percentage.

He was going to be sold to Tottenham last summer for 20m Euro, Dutch clubs just can't say no to this. He decided to stay for his own good and even signed a new contract with PSV (with a gentlemans agreement to sell him this summer). 32m Euro is alot for a Dutch club - his replacement won't cost more than 10m.

Great news. He's an exciting prospect and I'm sure he will be great here.

I love that he trolled those Liverpool fans

Are you actually serious?

Evra was leaving so we needed and left-back. Luke Shaw was one of the best in the country, young, and English. He's probably not been as good as we might have hoped so far, but he's had some really good performances and he's a long-term signing. He's certainly improved the first team, since the alternative if we hadn't signed him would have been Fabio or Ashley Young, seemingly - aside from Blind obviously.

Herrera took a while to establish himself in the team, but he's almost definitely our best midfielder after Carrick. We've been saying for ages that we needed someone with a bit more of a creative spark in the midfield, someone with energy and who can get goals. Herrera has done all of those things. Again, he's definitely improved the first team.

Di Maria started well, but has been poor for most of the season. His talent is unquestionable though and when he was playing well, he not only improved the first team, but he was our best player by quite a distance. He'll come good again, I'm sure.

There's three players right there who have all improved the first team. Blind and Rojo both improved the squad, if not the first team and have both proven to be solid signings. Falcao has been the only let-down, in my mind. In my opinion, the transfer policy under van Gaal has been very good so far and I think Depay will be a success as well.

Anyway, welcome to the club Memphis!

I thought Evra signed a new contract just before we signed Shaw? Again I have nothing against any of the signings really, I think they've all improved the squad. Shaw without doubt should have played more of a role but that would put Blind on the bench as he's been a disaster at DM. I like Rojo but he's probably no more likely to establish himself at CB than Jones or Smalling (he's made less appearances than Falcao) I still want Di Maria here next season but the excuses people are making for a £60m player at peak age, to be benched by Ashley Young are incredible. Again, apart from Falcao, none of them have been disasters and I'm glad we have them all if I'm honest. But while Chelsea were signing Costa and Fabregas, we were improving our bench or wasting record amounts on two high profile players that have ended the season out the first 11.

Anyway that was all very off topic and it wasn't my intention to be negative about Depay. By all accounts this could be a decent bit of business and I look forward to seeing him at the club.

It's not just a leap in quality. He's moving from a top team in a relatively small league to one of the best leagues in the world and one of the biggest clubs. The vertical step up is massive whereas moving from Manchester to Madrid is almost a lateral move.

Exactly. Note the tone of PSV's statements - they are a) proud to have produced a player who moves on to United and b) delighted to have made so much dosh. Neither would apply to us if DDG went to Madrid.

Really glad we got this done, exactly the kind of signing we should be making. Hopefully he settles in well and sorts our left wing out for years to come.
