Why? Real are always running off with our players.

It depends how you look at it. Real have signed Ronaldo, but he is another level good. Depay has a long way to go to achieve that. If he's been watching us this season then he might not be too convinced that he'll flourish here with our systematic style of play. There's less pressure at Liverpool and they have no issue in playing youngsters every week. The way they set up makes their attackers' work a lot easier and gives them a platform to do their thing.

I agree really. Why would he when they havent got champions league.

It's not just that to be fair. Nothing matches up as a pro from a Liverpool perspective.

Van Gaal vs Rodgers : Would he rather join a club where the manager gave him his national team debut and included him in the World Cup squad or a club where the manager's position has become very unstable and a bad season in 2015/ 2016 might even see a change made by FSG.

Familiarity : He will have Dutch coache and a familiar system at United, plus the national team captain and the highest scoring Dutchman of all time Van Persie, in addition to Blind.

Financial security : United can match everything Liverpool are offering in terms of wages and much, much more if he's a target that is.

Club stature : Liverpool can maybe use the the history, romanticism, Kop and tradition card vs City but not United because we have a more illustrious history and a better fanbase and so forth.

Team-mates : Mata, Ander, Rooney, Shaw, Blind, Carrick, Di Maria etc plus possible additions of Gundogan and Hummels vs Allen, Balotelli, Lovren and co. Some of Liverpool's better players including Sterling and Henderson are already kicking up a fuss, Sterling in particular might not even be there medium term.

Realistically, I'd be concerned with only Bayern if their interest is genuine. They can match us in a lot of departments, boast great history, can make him very rich and will give him the chance of winning silverware immediately. But the Van Gaal factor overrides a lot of it IMO, just like Guardiola's presence at Bayern turned Thiago's head. Van Gaal is to Memphis what Pep was to Thiago.

Yep.

Yes it's been posted and discussed. Doesn't necessarily mean anything as he's also on RvP's crew. And he's a Liverpool fan so could be causing mischief. When The Sun tweeted a story about Depay flying in this week for United talks he tweeted them saying they were wrong.

Too much uncertainty surrounding Liverpool right now to make it a desirable destination, in my opinion.

Isn't Depay very ambitious? He doesn't strike me as someone who'd settle for Liverpool because his chances of a first XI place would be higher. He'd go to the biggest team that's in for him and be convinced he'll force his way into the team. I'm not worried about him going to Liverpool.

From a newbie:

I'm a long time lurking chap with only a Newbie account. Too busy to climb the ladder on here as it were.

Anyway I read 100s of that agents tweets this morning and he is an Everton fan who is from the Wirral. In fact he had to tweet that very fact some time ago as he was called a Manc shite by an Everton fan. He is not an LFC fan.

Why did you think he was a Liverpool supporter? I only glanced at his timeline but all I saw were pictures of him at a bunch of different stadiums and places.

Some of his older tweets, but I misinterpreted one of them. In one he was angry that an FA Cup semi was on at the same time as the United/Chelsea game. Forgot that our game was on the Saturday and Liverpool's was on the Sunday though so wouldn't have been to do with that.

Edit: and the below too. Saw some tweets of his about Hillsborough

He's from the Wirral and he tweeted something to the Sun about the truth not taking 26 years to come out, presumably referencing Hillsborough.

Yep. I remember one tweet being about the Everton and Liverpool supporter side by side with the 96 on their backs so makes sense he's an Everton fan

This is pretty much a done deal. We don't mess about anymore with signings.
If we went for Gareth Bale you can bet there would be a hell of a lot of "messing about". If a deal for Depay is quick it will be because the player wants it, and the price will be "reasonable".

I've been out for a bit, has it been mentioned that Pereira is following him on instagam?

Memphis Depay's representatives have probably had discussions with PSG, Man United and Liverpool. Wouldn't surprise me if we see that they have met with Bayern as well in the coming days/weeks.

As the PSV boss said, he has just got to choose the club he wants to go to now. Just because he has met with this or that club doesn't necessarily mean that he has chosen them so you have got to take these articles with a pinch of salt.

IMO, I still think he will come to us. I believe that LVG advised him to stay this year in the view of signing him this window. Netherlands are one of the countries where Man United's lure is at it's greatest and there is a modern tradition of dutch players at the club ranging from Staam through to RVP and Blind.

I wish people would stop saying this is a 'done deal', it obviously isn't lol.

I hope he watched Liverpool today. He'd be absolutely mental to want to go there.
