I agree really. Why would he when they havent got champions league.
It's not just that to be fair. Nothing matches up as a pro from a Liverpool perspective.
Van Gaal vs Rodgers : Would he rather join a club where the manager gave him his national team debut and included him in the World Cup squad or a club where the manager's position has become very unstable and a bad season in 2015/ 2016 might even see a change made by FSG.
Familiarity : He will have Dutch coache and a familiar system at United, plus the national team captain and the highest scoring Dutchman of all time Van Persie, in addition to Blind.
Financial security : United can match everything Liverpool are offering in terms of wages and much, much more if he's a target that is.
Club stature : Liverpool can maybe use the the history, romanticism, Kop and tradition card vs City but not United because we have a more illustrious history and a better fanbase and so forth.
Team-mates : Mata, Ander, Rooney, Shaw, Blind, Carrick, Di Maria etc plus possible additions of Gundogan and Hummels vs Allen, Balotelli, Lovren and co. Some of Liverpool's better players including Sterling and Henderson are already kicking up a fuss, Sterling in particular might not even be there medium term.
Realistically, I'd be concerned with only Bayern if their interest is genuine. They can match us in a lot of departments, boast great history, can make him very rich and will give him the chance of winning silverware immediately. But the Van Gaal factor overrides a lot of it IMO, just like Guardiola's presence at Bayern turned Thiago's head. Van Gaal is to Memphis what Pep was to Thiago.
