Why spend 80mil on Bale when we could buy this guy for 20+mil?, we would then have plenty of money left to buy more big players.
Because Bale is better. Bale has PL experience. Depay may well be better value but if we have plenty of money to spend, just get the best option available.

Hes also older, won't be as motivated or willing to rotate with mata and di maria, and there's no telling how he would fit in van gaals style. His pace and directness definitely wouldn't be put to full use. Depay knows van Gaal and his ways, is younger and probably has the potential to reach that level. Think depay has more goals this season in all comps then bale has ever scored as well, or around that, so its not like bale will guarantee more goals.
Losing Depay to wait and see if Bale or Ronaldo is available would be stark raving bonkers. Unless we've had on good authority that Bale is coming, maybe as a make weight for DDG then I could understand.

I am a bit worried that we are letting other clubs steal ahead of us while we wait to discover that we inevitably cannot sign Gareth Bale.
I'd always prefer to see us sign a youngster for £20mil and turn him into the best in the world than spend £80mil on a player that, no matter how good he is, will always not have been good enough to stay at Real Madrid.
