It's almost as if they're trying to use sensationalism to create more sales or clicks
This isn't Reuters or the BBC man, most of these scrubs have little credibility to begin with, they just involve multiple clubs even in a pretty straightforward transfer to generate more clicks and more revenue for the publishers. By continuously linking Liverpool as a serious option until Memphis finalizes his contract with United, they're basically hooking millions of fans who'll visit these sites for daily football updates.

There's no basis behind the headline. It's all just predicated on the writer's unsubstatially opinion : "The midfielder has been mooted as a possible replacement for Gunners veteran Mikel Arteta". Really ? Mooted by whom ?

Could easily see him going to Liverpool. They still have some cache with players around the continent. If they offer him a decent wage and a starting place, something they can offer more of than any other team in for him, then he could easily join them. That's why I can't laugh at all these links to Liverpool being favourite sto sign him. That could easily be the case. And even if he doesn't go on to win much with Liverpool he's still putting himself in the shop window for future transfers.
That being said, I'm hoping that United's greater standing in Europe, greater spending power and the Dutch ties will sway Memphis. Playing time could be a decisive factor. We still have Di Maria on our team who can potentially be our best player when everything goes right. They'd be competing for the same position. Not to forget a resurgent Ashley Young. Liverpool don't have as many options.

Do Liverpool even play a formation that suits him? They seem persistent with the 3-4-3, and I can't see Depay wanting to be a wing back/left midfielder. He'd slot right into the 4-3-3 we're currently playing and battle it out with Young, which is a battle I'm sure he'd quickly win.
I suppose it's not over yet though. We look likely to finish top 4, but failing is still not impossible. He might just make his decision based on who finishes top 4.
