Memphis Depay | PSV confirm deal with Man Utd is agreed!

The most positive thing with this signing if true is that Blind turned out so great. I would be a lot more worried if this was a player that LVG wasn't familiar with as he's very peculiar in what he wants from the players.

If LVG has coached a player before and decides he would want that player then I feel pretty confident about it.

Eindhovens Dagblad, a local newspaper came out with this article. They've got Rik Elfrink as dedicated PSV watcher, he's got good sources.

'Memphis Depay will get to choose his own destination regarding a transfer. The management of Memphis have been told the club will accept offers above 25m Euro. After this it's up to Memphis to choose'.

So far Tottenham Hotspur (last season) PSG (last januari), Manchester United and (article isn't online yet, but Rik reported it) Bayern Munchen are battling for his signature.

I'm not going to post the whole thing again but I'm still not worried. He's going to choose for van Gaal :D

Worried a little by the Bayern links. Hopefully we can get him signed, I think he'd do great in the PL under LVG.
Nah, I think with the Van gaal ties we are clear favourites to sign him... Like with the thiago thing, only this time we are in Bayern's position instead of just chasing him.

Also I saw a few people saying we don't need another nani and all that for whatever reason... Which is weird, as if we signed a Nani type player he'd be brilliant just like nani was at his best. His downfall was injuries and being fragile mentally. Who's to say depay will have injury problems or need his hand held every step of the way? Nani without that would have been one of the best wingers/players in the world, as he was those two seasons.

Anyways, from what I've seen and heard, they aren't that alike anyways, apart from their physique and having a goal threat from range. Nani is a much better dribbler in tight spaces then depay is.

Bayern's initiated interest may cause United to act far more quickly which may make few people happier who wanted everything agreed before season's end.

Wouldn't be surprised if the agent dropped Bayern's name there just to light a fire under Woody's arse.

I think it was @NL Max who said that, in the worst case scenario, Memphis would end up a Mirallas level player. So really, its a no brainier to buy him, especially for £20 odd million. At best, we end up with a player who develops into a world beater, at worst we end up with a great squad player who already knows what LVG demands (on and off the pitch).

Of course, he could completely flop, but that's the risk you take with any signing. And with his age, you'd imagine he'd still have some sort of decent resale value if that was to happen.

Yeah, a young Mirallas or Callejon type who scores at a healthy rate from the wing but is slightly below average creatively for a top 5 winger wouldn't be a disaster of a signing. If Di Maria stays, that's a nice contrast in styles between Depay, Di Maria, Mata, Januzaj and Young, with maybe one of the 2 former La Liga guys playing as the 10, too.

From what I've seen of this lad he's not too bad. Doubt he's gonna be 1st name on the sheet for time being, but should get enough game time next season should he sign.

For those who haven't seen him, he's quite similar to how Ronaldo was when he arrived at OT. Bags of talent but very frustrating, although he has progressed well. From his progression and improvements over the last 2 seasons it's pretty obvious this lads been coached well and knows what he needs to work on. Which tells me he has a pretty good head on his shoulders (although I dont know the lad), and I think under Van Gaal's tutelage he will become a quality player.

Potential fan favorite within 3 years I reckon!

A Bayern move might actually make sense for him. He'd be taking over from Robben/Ribery and playing in one of the strongest teams in Europe right now. Guaranteed silverware, great city to live in, excellent wages and working along side world class players does seem quite tempting.

I have seen enough of him in the last 12-15 months that i really want him in our team (although i wouldn't say "No" to Bale, Reus or Sterling over him).

Di Maria, Mata, Januzaj, Young and Depay would be fine wide forward options for next season :)

Sshhhh!

Thiago? Many people didn't believe Thiago will happen because of Guardiola. Why can't we apply the same sentiments here?
Because Van Gaal. Because Ed has learnt his lesson. Because Van Gaal isnt Moyes. Thats why.

The young wingers we've bought in recent years have been more miss than hit. Bebe, Zaha, Obertan, Tosic...its about time we made a good signing. I think Depay is better than all those players already (at the same age) and he's already familiar with our manager. I think he'll be a hit.

Think it'd make more sense at United, trying not to be biased. We're on our way up and will be up there with the best soon enough, the premier league being such a popular league, slotting into our team being a lot easier then getting into Bayerns side, and especially Depay seeing Van Gaal as a father figure being the main thing. Just can't see him going anywhere else, even if Bayern/Barca/Madrid/PSG/Chelsea/City or whoever are interested. Usually I'd think that a player would be tempted to go to one of the bigger teams at the moment but with Depay I genuinely think we are big favourites ahead of anyone.

Is he any better than adnan though?
I'd like him to come but I wouldn't expect too much in his first season as he adjusts to the premier league... Still with adnan, Wilson, periera and Depay we would potentially have a lot of our attacking options in place for the next decade or so If they all developed well
He has already shown more promise than Adnan.

He's head and shoulders above those already. He's scored 20 league goals in 27 games and while you could say "well it's only the Eredivise" but at the same age and playing as a striker rather than from wide or deep Suarez scored 17 in 33 and then 22 in 31.

I just really hope this doesnt drag on all summer with all the will he/wont he that goes along with this club and transfers, either sign him in June or knock it on the head and look elsewhere, I dont know if I have another summer of muppetry left in me, as I feel alot of my energy & twitter stalking will go towards Hummels this summer

If we've made a formal enquiry the likelyhood is that this will be signed before the window even opens.

Nobody was saying that this time last year though.
Adnan has found it tough to get games this year and I think Depay will need time to adapt as well so getting ahead of Di maria, Mata, young, Valencia, Nani and possibly nani plus other signings will be tough.

Liverpool only club to have made formal approach according to a Dutch journo on Talksport this morning

There was a video of Sammer on here saying how Bayern will be looking to bring some younger players in this summer. He mentioned both Robben and Ribery as players that needed to be planned for. It would make sense for them to be interested in Depay.

Famous last words, but my gut feeling is that Depay has agreed to join us and wants the move and what we are seeing is PSV trying to secure a high a fee as possible by making all this interest known.

Yes that is true. Could be a potential successor for Ribery.
For the reported 25 Mio EUR I would say let`s give it a go. Everything above is too much for a young talent from the Dutch league.

Nice. How many attempts?
From one attempt (I think)
It was in the 92/93 season, our first Premiership title and the entire squad had all scored a goal except Pallister, up he stepped to take a free kick with seconds left and blasted it into the bottom corner.

Just reading those names. Deary, deary me...

If Bayern get involved then I can't see it ending well, though might leave the door open for a sneaky bid for Robben,

Robben, Rooney and Di Maria upfront...

Dont love the average age of that line though.. Cant see them loosing Robben yet either.. Is Ribery still there?
