As far as his ceiling goes, he has it in him and is on his way to become the best Dutch player at some point, whatever that level is it'll be a respectable level.

That's an incredible level to get to. The best Dutch player of any generation is usually one of the top 5-10 in the world.

Yes, although as a Dutchie I have some concerns about that upcoming generation, but regardless the best player will be of a respectable level.

Its probably attractive to compare them but I don't really see many similarities.
They're both wingers/wide forwards, pacey, ridiculously productive for their positions, they're strong, their general play is quite lacking often but still very good in the final third, can cross, they both have brilliant shots on em and can take defenders on with pace. Their main game is focused on productivity.

Whose game isn't focused on productivity ? I think people are more or less attempting to conveniently shoehorn them together because they may be potential transfer targets for the same position.

Well, Hazard isnt as focused on purely scoring goals and assisting as Ronaldo for example, he tries to help the teams by any means, creating chances, space, shaking off defenders, while Ronaldo rather is at the end of an attack to finish off.

It's easy to compare young players to more established players, but in reality most top players usually aren't that comparable, they bring their own unique style and personality. It'll be the same with Depay as he gets older.

He definitely has a chance to become as good as Wesley Sneijder or Frank Ribery when they were at the peak of their careers, provided he maximizes his potential. While Memphis isn't quite as dynamic in terms of his acceleration, dribbling and overall playmaking ability yet, he's a bigger goal threat than either when they were at a similar age, and is developing very impressive Sneijder-like set piece technique. And Memphis' current season is quite similar to Sneijder's final season at Ajax where he scored 22 with 12 assists.

Wouldn't surprise me if he ends up as a comparable player, but one who provides more end product in the form of about 20 goals per season in the bigger leagues. Both Ribery and Sneijder were consistently one of the Top 10 players in the world for a period of about 3 seasons, even hitting Top 3 levels for one season, and that might be Memphis' ultimate ceiling. Not seeing the Bale comparison TBH, Memphis is strong no doubt and increasingly clinical but just not as quick, explosive or physically overpowering, but comparisons to Marco Reus wouldn't be far off, another wide forward whose forte is clever movement, touch and finishing ability.

Also like his borderline smug confidence levels when it comes to his own footballing ability, something that almost all great players have in common :

Ronald Koeman : Depay plays as if he has won 10 European Cups. He is very cocky.

He's lightning quick, maybe not with the ball in tight areas, but watch him when PSV js countering, he's fecking rapid.

As soon as the window officially opens make no mistake woody is getting his chopper out and depay will be at carrington before you know it. He's the one signing I think is nailed on.

Yeah, I've noticed that. In my opinion he doesn't use his pace enough, or perhaps isn't capable of using it to a better extend. On a straight counter he's very fast, but when running or dribbling at defenders he tends to temporise. He'll rarely use his pace to beat people, more likely to do some trick to get past them.

That said, I think this is also why the Premier League will suit him, the overall pace is higher, but that does mean it's more back and forth, more space to run at for him.

I meant when the spaces are closed down or when facing defenders head on. A lot of players are very fast when you give them acres of room (like when you're counterattacking) but once you take that away and condense their zones, they're not very agile so there's a discernible drop in their acceleration and overall speed levels.

Memphis for me is as fast no doubt, but not eminently so. More like say Reus or Gotze at Dortmund, or Ljungberg at Arsenal, who have smooth speed with good acceleration. But lightning quickness with substantial burst is a whole different category - more like a young Ronaldo or Henry or Di Maria or Bale at Tottenham.

Getting into a bidding war with PSG would be a nightmare.

Won't be a bidding war I think. PSV's director has said it'll be upto Depay where he goes, and that he's confident he can make it work with the club Depay chooses.

That PSV director by the way, worked as technical director for AZ during Van Gaal's time there. They're on very good terms.

There will be no bidding war IMO, and even if there was they can't just casually outbid us under FFP, and with Woodward at the helm. Memphis has his eyes set on United going by his not so subtle social media hints and has a very good relationship with Van Gaal. Will be one of the easiest transfers of the summer, a formal deal may even be agreed once the season ends. :)

PSG probably have bigger fish to fry, FFP has clearly crippled them and I don't know if they'd be able to afford another "Lucas" as it stands. A winger must be a priority for them though. With Lucas not having lived up to his potential and being troubled by injuries, and Lavezzi being a bit shit while also probably leaving in the summer they're in desperate need of quality in wide positions.

I'm quite excited about this transfer. He's not quite a raw youngster but he's not a finished product either. It'll be very interesting to see how LVG handles his development. Maybe he'll turn out to be the player we always expected Nani to become.

I don't think Memphis is compareable with any Dutch player, he's a bit like Bale/Ronaldo in that he's very direct. He's always looking for a goal: either himself via the shortest route or help his teammates get one, his overall play in the final 3rd is improving alot. He hasn't got the best top speed (not slow either), but he's got very good acceleration and because he's very strong he doesn't get pushed off the ball as easily.

The media report says that Tottenham bid 20m Euro last summer, PSG bid last januari (when they weren't selling) and Manchester United has contacted PSV. I'm 100% sure he will choose us if given the choice, there's no doubt about this. If we make an offer which will please PSV, 30m Euro, he will come here. That's the only uncertainty in this transfer; knowing van Gaal and Memphis I'm sure it's going to happen.

We haven't bid yet, but it's only a matter of time

Its a big step up in leagues but in leagues but I think he'd already be an improvement on Young. He's just better in every attacking and creative since.

Done deal imo. Well worth a 30m Euros punt.

Just hope that some of our other signings are already established top-class.

Great news: PSV have reached an agreement for a massive transfer next summer . According to Thijs Slegers club watcher on behalf of International Soccer, Manchester United next employer Memphis Depay .

PSV will transfer , which means a total of about thirty million, bringing out soon . Reports the journalist during the official ceremony of the newly crowned champion at Omroep Brabant . Earlier today it was already known that besides United also Paris Saint-Germain have registered for the left winger.

Memphis, which has so far been made twenty league goals this year, probably opt however for an adventure at Old Trafford under the wing of former coach Louis van Gaal .

If Memphis this summer actually leave , which is very obvious , PSV would just be a surprising successor may come up . Jesus Manuel Corona FC Twente has already been mentioned , but the top favorite is Ibrahim Afellay .

Would be a very exciting signing. Lots of reports saying we have made contact. I could see this one going the way of Danilo as in either PSV or Depay himself may make an announcement before the window opens.

@NL Max can you verify this article? Whether it's new or not, the site looks a bit suspicious and unprofessional. Only know from you that Thijs Slegers is very reliable.

Bad journalism, Thijs Slegers even comments on it on his twitter. All he meant is that he thinks Depay will come here, he wasn't stating any new facts. There is no agreement as far as he knows.

That just says that we are favourites.

Been on thijs slegers' twitter. He literally says ''and the copy and paste sites have employed people who are only half listening. I said that I THINK depay will join United''.

Lolzies.

Like Bloedrood has said, it isn't a reliable website. They took Thijs's words out of context, he tweeted: 'I THINK Memphis will go to Manchester United, there's been no news.'

Doesn't matter, whatever Thijs thinks is good enough for me ;)
