I pray we sign him though the only people that seem to have been contact according to various media today has been liverpool.

Missed the game but take it they played better than against Turkey.

I suspect they played better as Spain would have given them more room to attack.

When we were signing Blind there was a very long phase of silence and denying everything before the obvious. I'm beyond sure LVG is monitoring situation of EVERY of his targets... especially in the Netherlands.

vs Spain

Good to see Quinton Fortune muppeting over him today as well.

I think we will buy him. Don't pay over £20m though. Hopefully he would do well like lots of high profile transfers from the dutch league to the PL over the years.

Not exactly sure what the conversion rate is, but PSV sold Strootman for (including add-ons) 20m Euro. Memphis Depay is on a longer contract and is a bigger talent (it's only his first full season) so he'll go for I'd say 30-35m Euro max. PSV already rejected a 20m Euro offer before he signed the new contract. I think he'd cost like 27-30m Euro.

How can we not get him?

-He is one of the biggest prospects in the world. Everything indicates that he'll become world class

-He can go straight in he team and improve our left side.

-He's not going to be very expensive, at least not for us.

-He's Dutch. Our manager is Dutch. They know each other from the world cup.

-He has favourited tweets about going to Man United.

-We need a left winger.

And he's a dreamchaser. The Theatre of Dreams is the perfect destination for him.

He truly is my muppet signing. I don't care about us not getting us anyone else. I just want DEPAY!

That's a very impressive game for a kid who just turned 21 to have up against Carvajal and Spain.

Depay left, Rooney up top and Mata and Di Maria on the right and as the 10 (in some order) seems like it could really work nicely.

Seems like he had a better game tonight, good to see him doing more dribbling again.

Much better tonight. . Thats more like the old Depay. I would hate for him to sacrifice his flair and become a Ronaldo like cyborg.

I expect we'll find he has a lot more interest than any of the other talented players being transfered out of the Netherlands since Suarez or something like that, so his fee could easily swell up. Especially with all the hype that he's the next dutch attacker to be as effective as Robben

Roma were the only club that bid for Strootman so it was pretty simple for them to conclude the deal

So because the scouts are there they think they have a better chance? If Memphis is given the choice he will go to United, 100% guaranteed. If we're not interested he might go there but they can't compete with the LvG- or money factor. Have faith

@Ekeke
That might happen. Normally I'd say he's available for 30m.
Oh I have faith, I think it's already done.

Still unsure on Depay myself. He is a talent, but I can't help thinking I'd prefer a player who is better at running with the ball. Depay is fast, in the sense that if a ball is played over the top and he has to sprint against a defender, there is a good chance he'll win. He is less fast in the 'just picked the ball up on the halfway line in a 3 on 3 counter-attack' situation. Someone like Narsingh, for instance, who is rubbish - is a much better direct runner. Depay has a trick, and can fool a defender one on one in a standing position - but he doesn't ghost past 2 or 3 on a run.

I think at this moment, I'd pick Lucas Moura if I had a choice. Depay, at a club like United, woul be all or nothing - in the sense that he'd be a great signing if he can replicate his PSV goal output - as he will then just be a 'great goalscoring winger'. He will find it harder of course, and if the goals don't come, I just don't think he'd be that effective a player. A player like Aaron Lennon, or even Ryan Giggs can be game-changers and really open up a game without having the greatest output, for example. I think Depay is 20 goals or nothing, or at least 20 goals or 'not enough'.

While that may be true, he could quite easily improve his dribbling at speed also. He is almost like a reverse Ronaldo, in the sense that Ronaldo had the dribbling and tricks before the goal scoring, but Depay has the goal scoring without being an "amazing" dribbler.

If he can combine both of those things with his pace and strength, he will be an unbelievable player for many years to come. I personally think he would be an ideal player for us with his attitude and work ethic, and he is a player the fans would love. While Moura would also be a great option, buying him from PSG will never be easy, where as PSV know they cannot hang onto him and have to sell. It all leads to him being the better option.

Depay seems a more versatile player than Moura in that he can be dangerous across different areas on the pitch whereas Moura is abit like Valencia in that he isn't all that great once he cuts in.

Regarding the Liverpool stuff, that De Telegraaf journo seems to be well connected. He was on that LVG MUTV documentary the other day.

I am going to be so pissed if we miss out on him and especially if he goes to Liverpool. Even more reason for us to get that Champions League spot and to keep Liverpool of of it.

I think this is one of those transfers that we can tally as already in the bag.

The LVG link is too strong for it simply not to happen.

I don't want to jinx anything of course, but the LVG link is too strong for it simply not to happen.

I, for one, am off to work on his chant, based on deeply dippy by right said fred.

How good is he at beating his man and has he improved on that front? That's the part of his game that puts me off from what I've seen of him.

Depay strikes me as one of those players who is about to become "the next big thing" in football, which would suggest this is the right time to buy him. He has a good 10 years of quality in him.

How would you compare Depay with Robben of 10 years ago ?

This is my only concern. He is skillful, but I don't think he is a player that can carry the ball over a distance at speed. In fairness, Di Maria offers that, but he seems to have no clue what he is doing once he has the ball for longer than 4 seconds.

That's very harsh on Di Maria. He has scored or assisted on 12 of our goals this year in limited playing time, and during a time when our squad was out of whack because of injuries. Give him a full year to work his magic and he would easily double that.

Depay has acceleration 92 and sprint speed 90 on Fifa but I have read that he isn't that quick on here.

Can someone clear this up for me..?

Young has been praised by some as one of our best players but yet had only scored 1 and assisted 1, I dunno about you but I'd rather someone who can do what Young can do and score 15+ goals.

Basically, he may have a chance of matching Robben in a race without the ball, but not even close with it.

Wouldn't be surprised if we already have a deal in place.. But then that's just me being hopeful

Liverpool wouldn't be wasting time sending their scouts to watch him if this one was already done and dusted. IMO.

Even if we are in pole position, this one will probably rumble in.
