Is Willems the shit left back who played in Euro 2 years ago? If he is still that bad, I hope that City signs him for 30m.
He was like 18 years old then, and thrown into the deep end massively due to injuries.

He's starting to fulfill his potential but he's still only 20. Although 30m is too much.

He has 14 odd assists from LB doesn't he? That's ridiculous.

Wrap this up and rotate him with Young, Di Maria and Mata, then proceed to buy a good defender, a forward and possibly a midfielder and we'll be challenging for the league.

Hope City aren't after Willems. I haven't really seen him play, but anyone would be an upgrade on Clichy/Kolarov.

I wouldn't be surprised if both Clichy and Kolarov moved on in the Summer. Clichy looks like he checked out 6 weeks ago.

Is he someone we need?

We have Di Maria, Young, Janujaz, Nani, and Mata who can all play or rotate in the same role.

Not sure if Nani will be here next season tbh. He wouldn't have gone on loan if van Gaal rated him enough I think.

Memphis is a scoring winger, not one that gives many assists like Di Maria. He might turn out to be a player we'll regret not buying in 4 years if we don't get him now.

I think we'll keep Di Maria, Memphis, Januzaj, Young and maybe give Lingard a chance. He's done well on loan and was great in preseason untill he got injured.

Young slowly hitting his 30's, Januzaj will have to continue his football education and Nani is a huge riddle.

LvG also wanted to sell Fellaini to Napoli. A season is a long enough time to re-evaluate a player and decide he's good enough for the club.

He needs to be a lot more quicker to be effective in the EPL. For mixed heritage he isn't as fast as I imagined.

Translated from a Belgium site:
'The manager never told me to leave, just that I had to work for my spot'. So, kinda goes against it. He might've been one of the players who we would've accepted offers for, but van Gaal never wanted him out.

The 2nd part is true. From what I've heard Nani is doing well and he could be here again next season. I just don't think it's going to happen, he loaned him out for a reason. He won't be 1st choice next season and I'm not sure if he'd like that. His contract might be a problem though.

I'd imagine our interest in Depay will more or less result in Nani getting sold.

He's an explosive player. His acceleration is excellent and he's not slow at all. Granted, he's no Bale but he's not all about his pace. He's also built like a tank so he doesn't get shrugged off the ball easily. He has weak points, but not being quick enough isn't one of them.

With everything around Memphis suggesting that he's coming that's the only thing I'm sure of. I think he's going to be a player we wished we would've gotten in 3 years time if we kept Nani and Young for another season.

I think one of Young/Nani will be sold to buy Memphis. Nani's got a contract untill 2018, it's his wages which are a problem. If anything, this season should make it easier to offload him. That he was loaned out in the first place makes me think he's a player which isn't suited to van Gaal's ways sadly (I actually like Nani). I don't think van Gaal wants to get rid of Young after this season. I have absolutely no idea though.

What? Am I reading it right that as he has some black in him, you expected him to be faster?

He will almost certainly sell Nani if he buys Depay, and keep Young as back up.

That's what I think what's going to happen. Young has been excellent this season and can be a mentor for Memphis in his first season, I definately think he's staying because he earned it.

I do think Nani is off, as I think it would be best for both parties. He's come out and said he's a player who needs trust from a manager. Van Gaal is a demanding man, if you don't do as you're told you're not playing. He already wouldn't be 1st choice and van Gaal didn't like him at the start of the season (apparantly). He can still be a great player for a different club.

The problem is that he's on huge wages and that this isn't FM. If nobody wants him we're going to have to sell him for peanuts to make up for his wages. Would be a shame to see him on the bench again next season. I guess that's the clubs' issue and not ours.

I reckon Nani would be a good way to get other players we're interested in. Pogba at Juve for example.

I don't want to start a debate in the wrong thread, but I don't think we're after Pogba. We're after a defensively good box-to-box player, I see Pogba more as an attacking midfielder. We've got plenty of those.

His teammate Vidal on the other hand ticks more boxes of what van Gaal is after, he praised him in several interviews too. But without turning this into which CM we're going to get that surely is a possibility I haven't thought of. He might be used as a sweetener like we did for Rojo.

TBH I didn't really think his pace was that great in the World Cup either. I haven't seen enough of him to be sure but I thought that he looked kind of slow for a winger.

To me like someone said above.. He has good acceleration but over a longer distance I haven't seen him really leave anyone. Now I don't see why that was a dumb statement when the same people on here criticising were probably the ones complaining Januzaj was not fast enough. I feel he has the same type of speed and it will need to be worked on, especially if he wants to be a top class winger.

I don't recall anyone saying Januzaj wasn't overly quick because he's Albanian!

I'd say if you're using racial stereotypes to inform your judgement on how players should perform, then it's not us who have a problem

It's not a stereotype and has very much been scientifically proven. So stop being P.C your not David Cameron.

People hailing from certain (relatively small) parts of Africa are indeed genetically blessed with regards to sprinting. The flaw in your logic seems to be an assumption that this is true for all black people, as if they're a homogeneous group, when in fact intra-racial genetic variations are far more prevalent than inter-racial genetic variations.

Not to mention his assumption that someone who is mixed race will have inherited all the necessary genes from whichever parent allegedly carries them in the first place.

Basically, it was a really daft comment.

Even then, they're only marginally faster on specific distances of running track, wearing spikes, against a stopwatch measuring to hundredths of a second. In the real world, it equates to barely any difference. There are loads of fast white people and slow black people.
