Definitely. He had this as his cover picture a few months earlier.

Surely :D

I'm easy muppeted about Memphis but that picture says nothing I'm afraid. He's got a tattoo on his chest which says the same and he's been using #DreamChaser in pictures for years now. Just his motto I guess?

It's nice to know that he has a dog. Shows that he can handle responsibility. I don't know if Sterling would be this good at his age if he hadn't already fathered 18 children.

Depay reminds me a bit like Zaha. His touch is a bit raw and i don't think he is good enough to play for a club like Utd right now.

Strikes me as a rap fan, and 'Dreamchasers' is Meek Mill's motto Nd I reckon the tattoo was probably inspired by that.

From a football perspective, I'm slightly undecided still. Depay has good talent and ability, but is more Ronaldo like, wheras I'd like a winger with Robben like qualities, especially if Di Maria is still a let down. He, like Reus - isn't a great runner with the ball, and unlikely to carry the ball past players. He is more likely to stretch without the ball.

I mean, both qualities matter, but I see Hazard ghosting past men and being a real handful and would really love that kind of threat here. At the moment, I'd say Depay only works if he comes and does similar numbers as he is doing now, which he certainly has the potential too - but if Angel doesn't step up we could still use someone who can open up the game by going past players. It's a different type of threat to 'out-tacticing' (to use a Big Sam expression) your opponent.

Zaha: He has played only Championship football before his move to us

Depay: Eredivisie (Two great seasons), Europa League (6 goals in 7 games this season) and he has played in the World Cup

He's not British though.

:wenger: Eh? Reus is a great counter attacking player / ball carrier?. Do you mean their close dribbling is not as good? As that is where Hazard excels.

Fully agreed.

Why not (eventually) both? It's a long term plan, Depay will be available this summer for a reasonable fee, well not outrageous, if we sign him we have enough wingers for next season, with Rooney, RVP and Wilson enough number 9s, with Carrick and Blind our number 6 position is fine so then the manager can concentrate on signings for the rare quality box to box player and sorting out the defence.

For the box to box position ideally we would sign somebody who can go straight into the first team but also another player that is a good back up in the event of injury or for rotation needs, and that defence will need a lot of work.

Then perhaps the following season we can look to sign that Robben like winger, unless you have somebody in mind already for around the £20m - £25m mark?

If Depay becomes 1/10th the player Ronnie is, it would be an achievement. Being Dutch is one of the major reasons he is thought to be good enough for United.

I would love a Hazard type player. Don't think there are many with that kind of quality available.

As someone who followed Memphis for years, he's definately more like Bale/Ronaldo than like Hazard.

He can leave behind 3 defenders in a small space but he's more comfortable in beating 1 or 2 with speed and flair. That's what he's best at, when he has some space in front of him.

He's a teamplayer and not egoistic, he'll pass or cross if he thinks he can't beat what's in front of him. His right foot is deadly, he can curve balls from anywhere within 30 meters of the goal and he will do this. This makes him so good (or frustrating, if you're a pessimist).

His selling point for me is that he has no real weakness. He can do everything and the things he's not good at he is improving at an alarming rate. His decision making isn't perfect yet, but compared to the Memphis of 1.5 years ago he looks a completely different player. He's so much more complete and he's only 21. He's already very strong too so he doesn't get shrugged off the ball like most young wingers.

At 30m, for what I'm seeing now, I think that he's definately worth it. He may turn out like crap, but I believe that he will be a star whereever he goes. I'd be heartbroken if he goes to Liverpool. Will he become the next Ronaldo? You never know, he has everything to become it though. At the very least he'll become a good winger for a club like Everton.

Nice report. How's his crossing from the wing like?

He can curve them nicely with his right (when he cuts back) and usually does this over the top, aiming at the 2nd post. With his left he's not great yet, they usually make it to the right area but he hasn't got much control of where it's going or it hasn't got the right speed. Considering he was 1 footed about 2 years ago he's definately improved this. Still needs more work on them, but they're definately getting better and he's picking the better moments for it.

It's not his best attribute, but he delivered lots of goals on a platter for teammates than his assists give him credit for.

Reminds me of Ashley Young's style of crosses, usually cuts back from the left onto his right, and whips them in fairly low and hard. Rarely will go down the left foot route. If the cross isn't on he will take a shot.

Well after my dream signing Reus isn't coming, I am now fully behind this transfer.
Beside his talent he also seems to have the presence and arrogance we lack at the moment and he is extremely young. Get him LvG!

Reus doesn't usually run past a few players at speed (with the ball). He is a great counter attacking player in that once Dortmund win the ball, he is off at speed and can be found by an early penetrative pass. He is not Robben-like at all though. When he has the ball, he is more of a 10 than a 7 or 11.

Both types creates a question mark regarding Di Maria. As you say, we should also target a midfielder to go straight into the XI, so adding two starting wingers creates a question of where he will play, unless of course you propose we drop Herrera.

In theory, Di Maria should provide the Robben-like ball carrying threat, but we all know he needs to improve now. He is currently too weak, and if he is also regularly picking the wrong pass or scuffing a shot at the end of a great run, it is also of little use.

I think Douglas Costa or Moura are good shouts as obtainable 'Hazard-type' players. Remember that even Hazard is nowhere near as productive as he probably should be considering his ability. A Douglas Costa wouldn't even need to get 15+ goals, just be a menace and good link player, as Hazard is once penalties are excluded. Defenders are rightfully scared shitless of him though.

How is Depay comparable to Zaha? Zaha has a lot of skills and tricks but no end product. Depay is direct and has a great shot. He's more comparable to Nani than Zaha.

Christ, I'm an Ajax follower and I agree with everything you wrote here. We seem to be all over him (or already have agreed a deal, if you can believe some media)

PSG looking closely at Memphis apparently. :annoyed:
If they are after Pogba, they'll need to save every penny. Although they will get rid of Lavezzi, maybe his transfer will finance this. Feck.

Doesn't matter. Unless it's Real Madrid/Barcelona who can offer him gametime, I'm 100% certain he wants to come here because of Louis van Gaal. If we're interested (which I highly doubt we aren't) he's coming.

Place your bets boys.

I always thought with Moyes coming to the club as a manager he would bring Barkley with him. He took Fellaini. I hope with Van Gaal we'll get Depay not Snejder

Maher on the other hand would be interesting (both would be great but I can't see psv letting that happen)
No it wouldnt, Maher is one of the most overrated youngsters in the Eredivisie in last years, he's too lightweight for the Eredivisie let alone the PL, he hasnt managed to have a big influence on PSV and only plays because PSV have to earn back his transfer fee. Maher needs quite a few years in the Eredivisie before even considering going abroad.
