Memphis Depay | PSV confirm deal with Man Utd is agreed!

Depay is quick, anybody who has watched him properly will see that. He doesn't always use his full speed though unless there is open space to run at. Just look at the counter attack v Feyenoord this weekend, he got through on goal from the halfway line and only just caught him.

He is no slower than Young or Di Maria IMO, so speed is not an issue.

He's definately not slow, but using his top speed isn't his game. He's more explosive, small sprints with great acceleration and turns is what he's best at. When he's fully up to speed he's not being caught up by defenders either. Like you said, against Feyenoord he was chased by about 6 players and he still got a shot at goal.

Not sure who he's comparable with for top speed, but I doubt it's below average of good wingers. He's rapid.

Which I would say is more important anyway. Top speed's of players rarely get used, or people like Walcott/Agbonlahor would be more effective. I would always prefer quick Acceleration/Agility like Messi/Sanchez/Hazard.

Fully agreed. That's much harder to defend against than just pure speed, as you don't often have get the chance to run 50m. And if he does have that chance, not many will be able to keep up with him anyways.

Robben actually said in an interciew around the time of the WC that Depay was faster than him. Even if that's only remotely true, pace is the last thing that you'd need to worry about with Depay.

Mixed race are quick ? Ok, then name a few.

lol sure...

Walcott
Agbonlahor
Aaron lennon
Townsend
Chamberlin
Sinclair
Valencia
Montero

That's just players in the prem.

You can go back to get players like Rio and Stan Collymore if you want. But I take it you was just being sarcastic.

I don't think that's true, not even Depay thinks that as he said Robben is the fastest player in the world with and without the ball.

I don't think Depay is nearly as fast as Robben but he is fast enough.

@Mainoldo is right you can't say the same thing about:

Bale
Wilson
George North
Ben Smith
Mike Brown
Jack Noelle
Owen
Robben

Now to be honest a lot of west africans etnies, have more llb muscle fibres.

I'm at odds as to what's actually more irritating: the poor logic or poor grammar

What are you trying to prove except for being a jackass?

You've got defensive because i said I don't think the guy is particularly fast (which i stick by) and that based on his genes was quite surprising...

Like get a life... It was hardly mentioned as a serious comment.. I'm not walking around expecting every mixed guy I see to sprint past me.

What a twit.

Chill out. I think people were just curious if you attribute race to why certain players are faster than others.

 The imagery.

Looking at the Olympic results for the past 60 years we can categorically say they are?

It isn't a very politically correct thing to say, but the poster above is right, black people are generally faster than white people. I mean, that's just a fact. Or at the very least, the most athletic black people will be significantly faster than the most athletic white people. At the same time, not every black person is going to be fast, and this is where we get into the area of stereotyping. I've noticed commentators often refer to black players as "athletic", "fast", or "strong", but rarely do you hear a commentator attribute the words "intelligent" to the same player. This is obviously a very general observation, but just something I've noticed.

His mixed... They are generally phenomenally quick.. Want me to name a few?

What he says is scientifically true since genetics and heritage play a huge role in development. But I wouldn't use this generalization with all athletes because, they are where they are because they stand out from the rest and better technically, not just physically than your average football player.

What a turn this thread has taken, just because he has a father from Ghana

So is this transfer likely or what?

I'm sure it's done and dusted, too many signs. He favorited tweets about United, PSV confirmed he's leaving, van Gaal is an important man in his life, we lack quality wingers (only have 3, assuming Nani leaves), his friends and surroundings all suggest he's coming and a 100% trusted PSV journalist from Voetbal International says we have serious interest.

Don't really watch Dutch football despite it being shown on Sky. What type of winger is he? Is he going to cut inside or run to the byline and cross it.

He's an all-rounder, he can do both. He prefers to play on the left to cut inside and shoot (he has a fantastic shot) but he will give a cross if he thinks he can't beat what's in front of him or if it's simply the better option.

He's an explosive player, very quick off his mark (and despite what's mentioned above) he's very quick. He can dribble past a few defenders but he's more comfortable if he has a little space. He has flair but is very strong, rarely gets pushed off the ball. His decision making is still his weakest point, but he has no real weakness. He can do everything and is a real team player. When PSV are struggling they rely on him to make things happen and he will try to do so since he's the star.

He's improving all his weak points at an incredible rate. He used to be very egoistic and never cross (he's changed completely), he was very 1 footed (but he's obviously training on this as he's using his left foot more), he never scored headers untill this season and he's defending alot more.

If you want to read more on page 32 Damien quoted a post from the newbies I made. I've been following him since he was broadcasted on PSV youth matches.

Wait, I thought pace was one of depay's main assets. People keep comparing his style of play to Ronaldos.

He's plenty fast enough I don't see where people are claiming he's slow from.

I for one am very much looking forward to seeing him in a United shirt.
He really suits the red and white. Which is unusual really, when you consider his religion and/or sexuality.

He's more light mixed-race than dark mixed-race, so it does make sense for hindering his speed.

Do you watch him week in week out? My Ajax-supporting mate does and got all the positive reviews about him. Says he's ready to play in EPL which he doesn't say too often when a Dutch talent emerges (is shocked with Blind's progress for example) and his record with judging player's potential is pretty shite. I don't get to see Depay more than 5-10 times a season, hence asking.

Yep, I grew up going to PSV games and still watch all of them. Unfortunately our league is more about giving time to youth before we sell them for profit to stay alive. That's why I prefer watching the PL now, but I still like PSV. I occasionally watch other Eredivisie matches, mostly Ajax and Feyenoord.

I've seen pretty much all broadcasted matches of him (including his youth days) and as far as I can say (as a fan) he's the real deal. He could be the next big star. He has all the attributes: first to enter the club and last to leave, hired professionals for his lifestyle, cut off all connections with bad influences, built like a tank and has no real weaknesses to his game. If we don't take a punt on him we could regret it in 3 years time. This season alone he's improved so much it's unbelievable. It was good for him to stay at PSV for at least another year after the WC, even whilst many thought he would leave.

Memphis Depay is the best player in the league, hands down. He's the top scorer (as winger!) and pretty much too good for the league. He's highly rated by van Gaal, Cocu, de Boer, Koeman, Rutten, Advocaat for example.

Blind isn't highly rated in Holland. He is rated below Clasie from Feyenoord for example, even by most Ajax fans (last season I'm speaking of). He wasn't a highly rated youngster when he first started playing (he was good at nothing, but decent at everything) and he was seen as daddy's boy. He's never been a great player to watch but van Gaal and de Boer see something in him and I trust their opinions more. I think he's excellent, maybe not worldclass but he's a great teamplayer.
