I for one am very much looking forward to seeing him in a United shirt.
He really suits the red and white. Which is unusual really, when you consider his religion and/or sexuality.

Let's leave his racial background alone for a minute and move on to his religious beliefs and sexuality.

Yep, I grew up going to PSV games and still watch all of them. Unfortunately our league is more about giving time to youth before we sell them for profit to stay alive. That's why I prefer watching the PL now, but I still like PSV. I occasionally watch other Eredivisie matches, mostly Ajax and Feyenoord.

I've seen pretty much all broadcasted matches of him (including his youth days) and as far as I can say (as a fan) he's the real deal. He could be the next big star. He has all the attributes: first to enter the club and last to leave, hired professionals for his lifestyle, cut off all connections with bad influences, built like a tank and has no real weaknesses to his game. If we don't take a punt on him we could regret it in 3 years time. This season alone he's improved so much it's unbelievable. It was good for him to stay at PSV for at least another year after the WC, even whilst many thought he would leave.

Memphis Depay is the best player in the league, hands down. He's the top scorer (as winger!) and pretty much too good for the league. He's highly rated by van Gaal, Cocu, de Boer, Koeman, Rutten, Advocaat for example.

Blind isn't highly rated in Holland. He is rated below Clasie from Feyenoord for example, even by most Ajax fans (last season I'm speaking of). He wasn't a highly rated youngster when he first started playing (he was good at nothing, but decent at everything) and he was seen as daddy's boy. He's never been a great player to watch but van Gaal and de Boer see something in him and I trust their opinions more. I think he's excellent, maybe not worldclass but he's a great teamplayer.

That's what I heard from my mate, apparently there were serious accusations of nepotism. i think Blind's biggest strength is his intelligence and willingness to learn. A very good buy, we cried out for a John O'Shea type of versatile player (not comparing their abilities). Also good point about Depay and that it was a great decision for him to stay for one more year. Top scorer as a winger? That's sweet, a patriot in me thought that Milik led the chart:lol:.

EDIT: Thanks for your long reply.

I am not sure that is completely true. When Blind first started for Ajax he played left back and it was obvious he lacked the pace and an that time the know how (lacking pace ) to play there. There were serious allegations of nepotism. When he was moved to midfield he was a revelation. All Ajax supporters will tell you that for his last 2 years there was our best player. We knew he would leave after the WC and as a United supporter I was glad we got him. He will be an asset to this club for another 8 - 10 years.

Blind makes up for his lack of athleticism with his footballing brain and tidy technique. It's kind of hard to spot that if you're a supporter though. Seems like a great guy too, just like many players from Ajax are down to earth. I'm not sure what he's going to be longterm, but he was vital for this season. I dread to think of the start of the season without someone like Blind who knew van Gaal's ways.

Memphis got 17 goals in the league, Milik 11. There's 5 players between them, including the #2 de Jong: PSV's striker with 15 goals, so not even close.

It got better near the end, but if you read the general opinion about Blind (even now!) he's a scrub who doesn't know what a pass forward is (that's why many like Clasie). I personally didn't feel this way. I live near Amsterdam and pretty much all my friends are Ajax supporters, many thought he would fail at United. Obviously in his last year he was excellent but many non-Ajax fans thought he was bad, combined with still alot of Ajax supporters too who didn't think he should ever leave the club as that was his supposed peak.

Let's just say he was a great buy at 13-million-pound. Coming after a terrific season by all accounts and a great tournament. In today's market we'd do well to buy a left-back of his quality, let alone a player who can play both full-back and cm positions to such an extent that he can give good performances against the best teams in this country. What's more he's got fantastic relationship with Van Gaal, is an intelligent guy and develops all the time.

You're probably right...

I believe "voetballer van het jaar" is the Dutch Footballer of the year award, as voted by professional footballers from the top two divisions or some such know nothings...

I'm not sure about your Ajax friends. I am an Ajax season ticket holder and none of the people I speak with at Ajax thought he would fail at united. They all feel that one of the reasons that he was the best Ajax player for the last 2 years, and one of the reasons that Ajax are so poor this season is that Blind left.

Incidentally We have a new player Bazoer who I have seen since he came to Ajax as a junior. He is really special. He reminds me of a young Frank Rijkaard. He is better than Pogba at the same age. He will be really exceptional.

I know he was footballer of the year, I rate him myself. I was talking about the general opinion of him by fans, not professionals. Obviously many PSV/Feyenoord fans are biased and don't like him for that reason alone. His first few years he got much more slate by Ajax fans than he did in the latest years.

Well they didn't rate him that high, don't know why but they didn't. Obviously I don't know the majority of the Ajax fans but on forums/polls Blind usually came out pretty bad. He also got much more criticism after a bad match than others would, just because he isn't a player who you'll notice much in a match if he does well.

And you don't have to tell me about Bazoer, you know he came from the PSV youth academy and all.. I've seen his youth matches.

@NL Max @dutchred Sorry for being off-topic, but what's your opinion on Richairo Zivkovic?

Bought by Ajax, only 17 (I believe) and plays in their youth team because they've still got Sigthorsson and Milik as their strikers (even Schone played there for a few matches). So I wouldn't know, I don't watch their youth team.

Had some falling out with coaches too I believe (all is OK now). Seems to be a fine talent furtherwise, can't really comment on him though.

Talented player, but had some issues mainly around playing time. During negotiations Ajax played open card with him and that he should use his first season to accustimize to club, but unfortunately he didnt show the best of behaviour. On a postitive note, he came out recently by stating that he accepts the situation and that he will work hard to break through in the first team next season. 18 goals in 21 fixtures for young ajax is nothing to be ashamed for and he will get his chance next season.

18 goals in 21 games for young Ajax. But remember young Ajax play in the Dutch 1st Division, so he is playing against experienced pros.

Yeah that's a great record. He's played a few minutes for the first team too. Not many but like said he'll probably break through properly next season and maybe get some more minutes towards the end of this one.

Step aside, Bale & Depay. This deserves a muppetry of the highest order.

Bazoer started as a CB in the PSV youth. He then went to rival Ajax (), there they thought he was wasted as a CB because he's too good on the ball. They've turned him into a box-to-box midfielder. Looks the real deal, but has only played 11 matches so far.

No way that he is ready for a step up yet, let him prove himself at Ajax first. Highly rated by the PSV and Ajax coaches though.

I think everyone is so certain this will happen that there is no muppetry. So people started talking about other stuff. A few pages ago we had a race discussion now it is a Dutch youth prospect.

people were excited with Depay, but when the rumours of Bale appeared, many want him now. I have a feeling even if this one doesnt go through, a lot of people wont be disappointed, in contrary, Ronaldo or Bale it is then. I would be disappointed, i think he is what we need. I dont want to pay another PL record fee for Bale, when we could spend that money on 3 other very good players.

at the end of the day Bale is going nowhere despite what you read in the daily circus.......Depay will be an unbelievable signing, we are defo favorites to get him but then again we were also favorites to sign Hazard, Ronaldinho, Matic, Essien, Sneijder, Robben, Modric, Bale, Kroos, Fabregas etc

This.

It's going to happen, he's coming to Manchester United. We've had nothing more to discuss about Memphis .

You guys might want to start calling him that. He has no contact with his father and doesn't want to be called Depay (his fathers' name) anymore. Just to get used to it for next season :D

These rumours are so much more reliable. He's made clear he wants to come here with tweets and his close contacts all suggest he's coming (source: Voetbal International - 100% reliable Dutch website, has their own PSV scout: Thijs Slegers). PSV confirmed he's leaving. Great talent, van Gaal knows this. Could be a much cheaper Bale in 5 years time.

Despite what they say about Bale, is Real Madrid really going to sell their most expensive player for less only 2 years later? The answer is no. Are we going to spend that much money on 1 player while van Gaal really has better issues to fix in the squad, as so far he's only had 1 summer window? I don't think so.

I don't think it's impossible. I said the same thing about Ibrahimovic when he was at Barca who then ended up leaving for Milan for a third of what they bought him for. Ibra had his falling out with Pep, Bale has fallen out with all of Madrid it seems.

Perez seems to be sticking by him though, and if he wants him to stay he'll stay.

Sorry but Depay isnt really the best player in the league, he has been out of form for too long to be considered that, Guardado, Wijnaldum, Clasie, Cillessen are all better imo.
