Simon Mullock is fairly reliable. Where in the article does it say we feel we're favourites?

He's really not especially when it comes to United news. I get the feeling that you say everyone is reliable whoever reports positively on Liverpool.

Should be playing at 1:30 (GMT) for anyone interested.

Sure Van Persie complimented him earlier in the season too? Think it's a non brainer. We need a real injection of pace. We'll get that with Nani and this kid next season.

He looks like PSVs Ronaldo. Amazing to watch. He and a rested di Maria next season would be a delight.

Some newspapers are now going with the he says wants to go to Liverpool over us.

That would really surprise me, don't know what they could possibly offer that we couldn't if we're interested, especially with the Van Gaal factor.

If Louis van Gaal wants him, he's coming here. Liverpool apparantly have been scouting him longer, which says just about nothing.

Louis van Gaal brought Memphis as a young player to the national team and put alot of trust in him. They've got a good relationship and Memphis praised him in several interviews as an important man in his life. Being selected for the national team has helped him get over his personal problems alot quicker. They say LvG is like a father to him, not sure if this is true. Money is also a big factor for him, as he used to be obsessed by this is his younger years. He doesn't show off anymore, but I doubt he's given up interest in it.

Add to this he favorited a tweet about us being interested, I'm not worried at all. He's coming here.

I'm not particularly bothered whether or not he ends up with us, but I really want to see him join a club other than United.

Not having to compete for a spot with £60m Angel di Maria, who might start ahead of you regardless of who's in the better form.

Depay almost exclusively plays on the left, Di Maria has been deployed on the right when he plays as a winger. I really don't think he'd be direct competition at all.

Di Maria played on the left side of midfield for the first couple of months of the season. Anyway, they may not play the same role on the pitch but they'd definitely be competing for a place. After all, Mata and Di Maria are in competition at the moment and they're much less similar in terms of style and position.

The only options we have as wingers are Januzaj, Young and Di Maria at the moment so I don't think he'll see this as massive competition if you compare us to other top teams. Mata being used on the wing might not even be a long-term solution. Louis van Gaal also likes inverted wingers and Memphis stated he's not leaving for a midtable club.

Well would be up to him.. Does he want to make it to the top or does he want to worry about Di Maria.

I'm sure he's confident enough to not worry about that.

I'm not making about an in-depth prediction about our tactical future, I'm talking about how it might theoretically look to Depay. Someone said there's no reason for him to pick Liverpool over us, and I'm suggesting the fact that at Liverpool there isn't a world-class £60m wide player who's getting game time despite being out of form.

As I say, I'm simply responding to someone claiming there's no conceivable reason why he might pick Liverpool over us. Not claiming that it's actually something that will end up influencing his decision.

Suppose this would rule Spurs out then.

I think eventually Di Maria will be playing the left CM slot and Depay the LW area. they will destroy teams with pace that side.

If we really want him we won't have any trouble fitting him in as Di Maria can play equally well in any of 3-4 positions, we'd have no problem with promising game-time. It would be almost like saying he wouldn't go to Liverpool because he'd have to compete with Sterling, 2015 golden boy.

Putting aside that it's nowhere near that straightforward, given that Di Maria is already displacing plenty of other very good and more in-form players for us (Januzaj and Mata, for example), that still doesn't change the fact that if you're looking for a reason why he might pick Liverpool over us, then the difference between competing for a place with Markovic and competing for a place with Di Maria is a pretty good one.

Because he only wants to go to a top team I doubt he's shy of competition but you're right in that Di Maria might be a factor. I doubt it's bigger than the combined facts that our overall competition for wingers isn't great, the LvG factor and that we can pay him more money than Liverpool though. He also made a statement that he wants to come here.

How are Januzaj and Mata in-form? Mata only returned today, did well fair enough, but he's not a winger. There are two spots on the wings, Di maria can't occupy them both and Januzaj and Mata are hardly much stiffer competition than Sterling/Markovic/Lallana, not yet anyways.

With CL next year hopefully there will be more matches and more of a chance to rotate.

To be honest anyone who watches us would see that it's Young who Depay would be competing against for a spot in the first team.

Seems like Liverpool rate Canos, Wilson, Ojo and Ibe highly and already have Markovic, Sterling, Lallana to play wide and Origi to come in who can play on the wing so I wouldnt have thought another young winger would be that much of a priority for them this summer anyway.

PSV played against Groningen but Depay played badly today. He also showed the worse part of his game today... he doesnt see the pass very often. Near the end of the game the Groningen keeper went forward to try and score the 2-2 from a free kick. PSV cleared the ball and the Groningen GK had to rush back to his goal. Depay received the ball and took the shot from the half wayline and missed... he did this while there were 2 PSV players in front of him in way better positions to score. Earlier he also fecked a big chance by touching the ball and because of that he was called offside while Maher could have been 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper.

He needs to become more of a teamplayer but i think it can improve over time.

He's a good player but he's a bit overhyped in England. He isnt Ronaldo and will never be Ronaldo. I seriously doubt he will be as good as Bale is. He is similair to Bale but despite Depay being strong and fast, Bale is stronger and faster.

Simon Mullock saying we're poised to sign Depay. Says we've been scouting him for more than two years and have a very close relationship between him and his agent. Apparently we've sent a delegation to visit PSV every month this season. .

Big deal. I'm sure all the top clubs spend a lot of time scouting the same promising young players. Wouldn't be surprised if we have been scouting him for 2 years as well and spent time chatting up his agent.

His decision making (and backtracking) are still the points he can improve on the most, this is true. But if you've followed him longer than that you can see he's already improved this massively. He's a real teamplayer this season, he used to be way more egoistic, he's still got his moments though. He already hit the bar twice when he tried to score from that range before too.

How good he's going to be you can never tell, but he's got everything to become the next Ronaldo.

He favorited this...

Memphis you tease :nono:

That's no tease, it's a sign

Nani has done well this season so he's fee should cover most of this move. Good business.

Definitely. He had this as his cover picture a few months earlier.

Yeah he's definitely coming here, simon mullock can spout all the shit he wants about Liverpool but Depay's twitter itself (twice) is as good a source as it gets.
