Memphis Depay | PSV confirm deal with Man Utd is agreed!

Exactly. There is no 3th party ownership involved, which I believe is part of the reason why Portugese clubs get a lot more for some players than Dutch clubs. Spurs are definitely interested too though, and PSV will most likely win the league so that might help raise his price to 25+ million pounds.

They will, unless they let a 14 point lead slip, which I doubt. They are reluctant to say it and confirm that it's in the bag though. Anyways. as I said before. Apparently, after the WC, LvG gave Depay the advice to stick around in Holland for at least a year more to develop. Depay also really wanted to win the league with PSV before moving forward. Put those two together and look at the bond LvG and Depay had before/during the world cup, I think there is a pretty good chance he'll be wearing a United shirt next season.

Seems very likely to be United bound.

A pacey, direct winger is much needed so should be a good buy.

From a PSV supporter in the newbs:

Hi Barney!

I'm still a noobie so I have to write my 2 cents here, I thought you'd like it.
I'm a PSV Eindhoven fan and I thought you might like some information on Depay.

- The general consencus here is that Memphis will leave for a big club this summer, memphis will NOT go to spurs because he thinks of them as to small of a club.

- The price will probably be around 20-25 million euro's + bonuses (Like playing a certain amount of games, they used the same tactic with Strootman)

- United really is the biggest kandidate according to dutch media.

- PSV will play CL football, so will not pick a club just for that reason.

- Dutch media seem fairly confident that Louis asked him to stay at psv for 1 more season this summer.

Hope this clears some things up!

£20m rising to £25m is probably a fair price considering the current market.

Markovic went for what £30m, and I'd say they have a similar reputation at the time of leaving their club.

Markovic went for £20m and that was only because he had a buyout clause.

Even then, I'd say around 20ish for Depay is a fair price. Him and Markovic probably have a similar reputation before they moved at the moment.

Markovic is growing on me btw, thought he was a bit headless when he first signed, but is showing quality as a wingback.

Depay's reputation is much bigger. Good last season, best player in the league this season off the back of an impressive world cup.
Football fans know Depay, whereas not a lot of people knew who Markovic was before he signed for Liverpool.

I'm not arguing who's better, but I definitely disagree with this. They have similar reputations IMO.

It's not necessarily about whose better (although Depay is). Markovic barely had any first team games to his name, he was an unknown from the Portuguese league. Depay as I said scored goals at the world cup. He was known as a talent before that and is the star man in the Dutch league this season. His reputation is far, far bigger.

The biggest difference is that Memphis is regarded as the best player in the4 Dutch league and Holland's brightest young prospect, and he already has two World Cup goals to his name. Markovic was a bit part winger in the Benfica side he part of. I am not saying who will end up the better player as that would be stupid, but status-wise in the game Depay is definitely above where Markovic was last summer.

For his age, contract length and the fact he has continued this season even better after a good showing last season and at the WC. I would expect PSV to sell for no less than 25m pounds with add on's especially if its 'money bags Woodward' going in for him.
I really like this guy a lot and hope we can reunite him with his new dad LvG. Hopefully though he wont be scared off by our incredibly boring football and dubious tactical approaches this season in which we have made a superstar like Di Maria look pretty average at times. I also think we need to be in CL or at the very least Europa to tempt him.

* Spurs have generated more income than Man United over the last three days and are looking to build on that
* In a table that ignores Spurs defeats and ignores United wins Spurs are top of the league, United are bottom
* Daniel Levy
* I have asked three of my Spurs supporting fans who play football occasionally whether they prefer Spurs or United, they said Spurs which is a proof that United are not the ultimate goal of all footballers

@Sarni you forgot that Norf Lah-ndan has less rainfall than Manchester. Crucial stat.

Really can't see how that's the case. Depay had a good season last year with PSV and followed that up with some excellent cameo's at the WC including two goals. He is currently on course to finish as the top scorer in the Dutch league this season. Markovic scored 7 goals last season. Depay already has double that and it's only February. Like most people I had only really seen Markovic in the Europa League. Depay on the other hand has performed well at a WC and even though the Dutch league is a relatively minor league the amount of goals he is getting is catching people's attention. IMO Depay has a much bigger reputation than Markovic before he left.

From a PSV supporter in the newbs:

Interesting. My deduction for not going for Depay was because Van Gaal knew we'd have a shit season of ugly football to grind out a top 4 finish, a system like that Depay would struggle for game time (like Januzaj has). Intriguing to see the dutch media agree.

Don't forget the state of the art Q Labs training facility with medical hydrotherapy deal with Atlantis.

It was probably more about his development than anything to do with us or our playing style. I.e. he would get more playing time, would be able to be the star of the team and would be able to develop more at PSV than here.

I was actually genuinely in the middle of writing a response to this thinking it was @GlastonSpur who wrote it until I decked it wasn't him! Says it all really! :p

Toon Gerbrands? What a name! I could see Wijnaldum heading to the PL as well, maybe to Southampton or Everton.

His general play has been ok actually, he's been alot more positively involved all over the pitch. Starting to defend much better too, this wasn't his strongest asset. His end product has been a bit lacking the last couple of matches though and you can see he's desperate for a goal, but not at all costs. He's played more in service of the team. He's been unlucky with a couple of missed chances and teammates not scoring goals he presented on a platter.

Only once PSV lead, he's going for his own succes via the hard route. This is something you didn't see much from him before (been watching him since PSV youth). He doesn't seek the hard option of dribbling past 4 defenders to try and shoot but he passes it instead. Only when PSV is trailing (like against Zenit) he's the go-to man to make something happen.

He's still developing every part of his game and although he's not on fire at the moment he's still doing well for the team.

His general play has been shambles for the past weeks/months, starting to doubt if he's ready. I'd recommend you to watch Psv vs Ajax tomorrow, will be a good match.
Its only been the last 3/4 games he was very good against Utrecht a few weeks ago. Seems to be trying too hard to score himself in the last few games.

As someone who has seen just about every match Memphis Depay has played since his early days at the PSV youth teams, I'm sure he's coming next year. He was already a huge talent but still had his problems early on. After half a first year in the Eredivisie and a good world cup many expected him to leave or have an huge ego after returning, but he didn't. He stayed and was focussed to win something with his club before leaving: the title. The Eredivisie might not be the best league, but it's a great place for young players to improve their game by playing alot of matches.

This season his improvement has been incredible. He's been scoring goals for fun whilst improving all aspects of his play. He crosses more with his left, he scored 2 great headers (never did this before), he tracks back much more and lost most of the frustrating ego problems he had. He's much more complete this season and you can see he gets frustrated with himself if some actions don't pay off. He's way too good for the league though, if he wants to improve his game further I think he needs to leave PSV.

His weak points are: his defending and backtracking + decision making. If you follow him closely you can see he's working on both though, he's a perfectionist.

He's got everything what it takes to reach the top. He might not set the PL on fire straight away, but if we don't buy him cheap now we'll have to pay double his worth in the next 2-3 years. He's undoubtebly the biggest attacking talent Holland has to offer right now.

PSV already rejected a 20m Euro bid from Tottenham before he signed a new contract. PSV already said they can't hold onto him though and they sold Strootman for around 20-25m Euro. For 25-30m Euro he's available, but he will not leave for a midtable team. He only wants to go to the top, he's already said this. With Louis van Gaal knowing him I'd like to think he's already in the bag, I'm sure LvG is fully aware of him and is tracking him closely. With the super season he's having it makes sense to bring him here.

Are the Dutch press suggesting he's coming to United as well ?
