Memphis Depay | PSV confirm deal with Man Utd is agreed!

Seeing how Young changed the game when he came on, I think having Depay from that position would provide us with even more threat. He is just as quick, but has even more of a goal threat. Having Di Maria or Januzaj on the other flank would be lovely

Yeah, that's how I'd envision using Depay, preferably as an inverted winger (i.e. on the left), while ADM does the same on the right. Now, if Adnan can move the ball a bit quicker instead of stop/start dribbling, we'd really have something now, instead of waiting for Depay or relying on Young.

Yep, with the fullbacks bombing on overlapping it gives you options to go down the line or cut inside for a cross/shot, best of both worlds!.

With a decent DM and quick defense it shouldn't be too much of an issue being countered either. Definitely the way I hope LVG starts heading towards.

I'm pretty sure this is all I ever do on the Caf, but feck it:

DDG
Clyne - Hummels - Rojo - Shaw
Blind
Herrera - Pogba
di Maria ----------- Depay
Rooney

Does Depay have the same crossing ability as Young?

I know he is inconsistent but when he gets it right Young can deliver some absolute peaches.

@Desert Eagle To repeat my request for confirmation: "Just to be clear: the bet I'm agreeing to is ... leaves because they've been sacked. If they leave for some other reason - e.g. they've been poached by another club - then it doesn't count. OK?"

Replace Hummels with Marquinos and that would be the line up I would love to see starting next season.

hahaha deals off mate. Never mind i knew you were all talk.

I originally said: "I'm willing to bet that Looney Van Gaal gets the bullet before Pochettino." To which bet you said "how much?" and then you then suggested £100.

And now that I've asked you to confirm your agreement that the bet hinges on the manager being sacked (and not leaving for some other reason) - this being the bet that I mentioned in the first place - you've pulled out.

That's fine. But don't then tell me that I'm all talk when it's you that's begged off.

Meh, i knew you'd add some weird stipulation. I'm willing to bet that LVG will stay in his current job longer than Pocchetino will be at spurs. I don't want to have to argue over mutual consent and got poached and other side issues. You've demonstrated you're not that confident Poch will be at spurs very long even if you have to reassure yourself it'll be because he did so well he'll be poached.

He screams 'Manchester United'. Extremely fast, deceptively strong & very direct. He runs at defenders from wide positions and drives inwards, a little like a young Cristiano (although not as good, of course). Very athletic and he even has a decent work-rate. He would fit us like a glove. If I could choose only one player (realistically) to sign in the next year, i'd sign him (and Marquinhos).

Yep, If you asked me to describe a Manchester United player he fit's very close to the bill. From all reports he seems very dedicated and want's to be "the best", which is the right attitude to have. PSV won't make us break the bank either which all seem's too fitting - I just fear he will go elsewhere and be a star.

I'd like to think LVG's connections will make it true that he wont cost a huge amount, but I suspect the interest in him will make it so

If we really want him, we will get him. I dont see Bayern or Real going for him. With the van Gaal factor and hopefully CL, we will have the best chances to get him. We are the only top club which could offer him a very good chance of playing every week.

In what position though? Most weeks we don't play a formation that suits him

Really do think LVG see's us going towards 4-3-3. He could easily play the left wing role like Ronaldo did, and have Di Maria in his similar left midfield role.

LVG has hinted we just need 1 more decent box to box midfielder to compliment the others, and I think he will switch to that more permanently. RVP and Rooney seem happier as single strikers too IMO.

Well he likes RVP, so thats Depay - RVP - Who? Rooney right wing?

We'd definitely have to be selling Mata if we don't use anyone in the hole

I haven't added anything. It's crystal clear from my original post - "I'm willing to bet that Looney Van Gaal gets the bullet before Pochettino" - that the bet on offer was all about being sacked. And most of the time it's clear when a manager has been sacked and when, in contrast, they've left because they've accepted a more attractive job offer elsewhere.

All you've demonstrated, despite your previous bluster, is that you don't have that much confidence that LVG won't be sacked before Poch.

I won't be responding to any further comments from you about this.

What's the point in betting £100 on this? It's not like the loser will pay up.

Some great points there. Well thought-out.

Indeed, i've heard the same about him. He is (supposedly) very focused & determined with his own development, and he goes about it in the right way. Whenever I watch him, he doesn't appear selfish in any way (though he does make bad decisions with his final ball). It is clear to see - his improvement in the last 36 months has been astronomical. That point you mentioned about PSV not making us break the bank - out of curiosity, what makes you say that? I am not so clued up on their finances, so I wouldn't know much.

My guess is while they will still try to hold out for the best offer possible something like 15 million would be a really big coup for a club in Holland why 15 million would go a long way.

That's fair. The Dutch league is nowhere near the PL, La Liga etc in terms of finance (never mind the football itself). I imagine his price may rise in the case of a bidding war, but PSV probably know there is little they can do to stop him leaving if he wishes to do so sooner, rather than later.

That is the type of system I want to see us playing. It means getting rid of RVP/Falcao/Mata but I have no issues with that.

And of course swap Pogba with Nainngolan as we haven't a hope of getting Pogba

What about our option on Falcao + a shit ton of cash for Veratti. Midfield problems solved. Then sign Lacazette/Kane? + Depay.

Alternatively, Schneiderlin would be a decent buy. Modric a very good buy, if Real decide to go for Pogba.

Also, Clyne/Coleman plus a competent CB to partner Rojo.

As I see it, we need five players. RB, CB, CM, winger, striker.

Have we bid for him yet?

No. Checks thread 24 hours later.

Looks a real talent for sure. I hate the he plays in a weaker league argument though off some fans. So did Eriksen, Suarez etc. I would hate to miss out on a player just to see him end up another big club. Surely van Gaal gives us an advantage especially as our team is also screaming out for pace and more goals.

Exactly, also the fee for him wouldn't be too expensive. We need more pace and this guy would be a good start to sorting out the problems with our squad.

van Gaal knows all about him. He is tearing up the Dutch league. We need pace in the final third.

Is this a goer?

I'd take a Pereira-Depay swap deal. Some on here may not like that, but meh. If Pereira doesn't fancy staying, then ah well.

If you propose some sort of barter or trade, you can't. Pereira's contract runs out in the summer.

I imagine we will get a small compensation fee should he join PSV if he is classed as home grown. If not we wont lose any sleep over it. Depay is ready to take the next step and it makes so much sense him coming here. He's also a self proclaimed Utd fan, He's the type of creative player we need, and he's used to playing in red and white

Is that true or a rumour?

Is that true or a rumour?

I remember one of the commentators at the WC claiming he was during one of Hollands games. They were banging on about Van Gaal taking him along with Martins Indi . Pretty sure i've read an interview somewhere too. Then again they are all Utd fans when they want a move haha
