Another goal tonight, good finish but awful defending, he seems to have stopped playing like Hazard and is now more of a striker.
We just happen to be in need of a striker who actually scores goals - 13 goals in 17 apps seems lethal enough to me.
Our injury problems are bad enough without bringing in a tweenage perma-crock.
Top talent, he seems to have developed greatly in the last year. I will be disappointed if we don't sign him.

Very similar position maybe? Pereira has been playing much deeper recently and certainly isn't a CAM any more. Him playing deeper has been part of the reason Pearson was getting so little game time with the under 21's this season. A bit like Tunnicliffe he was all the rage when with the under 18's but hasn't kicked on at all since. I wouldn't be surprised to see him leave in the summer and he certainly won't be here in 18 months. Unfortunately Pereira, who I think is good enough, is probably in the same boat.

I think that with the investments we're looking to make in the first team squad it's going to become alot harder for young players to break into the first team. Unless you're an exceptional talent of course but i've never got that feeling from watching Pearson to be honest. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong.

Just because Beckman managed it doesn't mean Pearson will. I mean do people honestly still think Pearson will make it here? I thought he was a sure thing when he was with the under 18's but he just hasn't kicked on. I can see him having a good career in the Championship but not at United.
But Beckman proves it can be done. I wouldn't write Pearson off just yet.
If you have bucket loads of talent. I would love to be wrong about Pearson but I just don't see it.
Pereira plays as b2b recently(no8), and I know it trust me I watch almost every game of u21s. He never played at the deepest role in midfield IRC, he is not suited to this role yet defensively and in terms of responsibility and positioning wise. That is why players like Thorpe, Pearson and most recently Reece James have played there. Andreas is creative player who is playing deeper than before but never as no6 because he is mistake-prone and not as good tackler as the lads mentioned above although he is getting better at it.
I rate Pereira little bit higher than Pearson in terms of talent but they have got similar chances as we haven't got any decent DM in the club as of now except Blind and soon to be 34 yo Carrick. Pearson has got higher potential than Blind imo. He just needs to get a chance. BUt as you know already a good number of young players are played by Van Gaal in his first season so I think he is little bit cautious with them, he can't give chance to every young player in the team.
I'm not saying he'll make it, I'm saying the kind of generalization you made, while not uncommon, is pretty pointless.

So do I. I still think Pereira is in direct competition with Pearson to a certain extent although as you say he isn't an out-and-out holding midfielder like Pearson.
Any way like I said earlier this is the Depay thread so we shouldn't be having a Pearson v Pereira debate in here. I already have my mind made up about Pearson and will hopefully be proven wrong but no post (not even good ones like yours above) will change my mind about him so it's best to leave the discussion at this (or continue it elsewhere).

Looking at the highlights I'm really not sure he's the one we should be signing. Most of his goals come from him finishing off moves with a tap in. Not a bad trait to have but not one that we are particularly in need off. Creatively, he doesn't seem to do much (3 assists from 21 games seems to back that up).
Maybe LvG will return him to playing as he was before, but I am not sold on him either, Ideally we need someone to play from the other side of the pitch as the side he is best on is the same side Di Maria is best on.
He's playing as a winger-cum-striker as he is his teams most lethal threat. He doesn't need to be creative, he has Maher and Wijnaldum for that. When/if he comes here, he'd most likely be reverted back to a winger. And we get it Akash, you don't like him.
It's also a great ability to have for a winger. Scoring goals is a real talent and if he can combine this seasons prolificness with some more creative wide play, he'd become a great player.
his stats are amazing in terms of goalscoring but doesn't seem to make much assists. I'd love to have him here, need that pace and trickery. Our midfielders Mata, Herrera and Di Maria (and Rooney) should create plenty.

Where have you been for the last three or four years? Of course he is. Obviously most have always seen Januzaj as the top talent in that age group but other than that Pearson's always been up there with the likes of Pereira, Wilson, Daehli et al as a standout talent. Just read back through his thread for proof of that!
Definitely. There's always that old saying too - 'too good to be out wide'. Players like Ronaldo, Henry, maybe even Bale transform from regular wingers to inside forwards/flat out strikers because they're a bit too effective to be out wide. Maybe Depay will grow into one of those talents.
He's amazing. Should be one of our main targets for the summer imo. We need wingers and at 21 he'd be a very "united" signing as mentioned. Seems to be becoming a bit of a goalscorer but he's got loads of pace and great ability on the ball. Also a very passionate and hard working lad with good work rate to match. Would be gutted if he went to Spurs.
