LVG knows him pretty well and has a good relationship with him reportedly.

But though he is very promising, and already good he is still inconsistent and a future project right now and LVG doesn't seem keen on buying and investing time improving young talents right now in SAF sort of way.

Surely Van Gaal would have bought Memphis in the summer if he wanted him? Close thread please mods.

He played as a striker on occasion for Holland in their 5-3-2 at the WC, and with his goal output he could probably do well up top in a free role.

The thing is I think we are going to stick the diamond and Di Maria has the free role behind the strikers, so Depay would have to actually play as one of the front 2 unless he can play on the left side of the diamond where Adnan played today.

Yeah he'd definitely have to play in the front two, that's the only position he should play in a formation that doesn't utilize wingers. We wouldn't need to play Di Maria up top because we lack pace and creativity anymore though. He's quite versatile which I believe is one of Van Gaals favorite qualities and further allows us to switch between different systems. Like Sanchez his ideal position is probably out wide while also being able to play as a striker if need be.

I can see where you are coming from and I might be off base here but in the last 2 games we have played close to a 4-3-1-2 with Di Maria free to roam anywhere he likes. I think LvG has opted for this and will build around it as he likes the 3 CM's to be much more careful in possession than Di Maria is and he's realized he's no striker. If I'm right that means we'd be banking on Depay as a striker most of time and I don't know if that would be wise when we could just buy an actual striker to play with Rooney in the front 2.

Definitely.

After Ajax playing like a wet towel and losing to Vitesse, the gap between them and PSV is 9. Pretty much guarantees the title for PSV this year, which means Depay fulfils his goal and is ready to move on in the summer window. Think our chances to land him have just gone up a lot.

Will be surprised if we don't make the move to tie him up before the end of the season, even behind the scenes.

Looks like a great player with a lot of potential. Don't watch the Dutch league though, so don't know much of him beyond a few Youtube videos (always dodgy).

For those that know, would you say he's got the ability to become as good as, let's say, Reus? Or is he a different type of player (ala Sanchez)?

Robben

Keep saying this, he's a Ronaldo type of player, not saying he has that potential. His general play isnt that good but functional, he usually gets himself a goal, he is very fast, very strong and strong built, knows how to score, has a cracking shot, got skills, can even head the ball quite well and always wants to win. Can dazzle defenders too at times and likes do drift in the center.

Depay-Rooney-Bale
Di Maria-Blind-Herrera
OR

Depay----Rooney--Januzaj

and use part of the Bale money to buy a dependable rightback, a WC CB. Wouldn't mind Bale, honestly speaking, but I would rather we go on about our business in a more sensible way. And Pearson is just there because I am just desperate for him to make it but realistically we would want someone more established like Koke.

I'd rather get Draxler or someone of that level. Depay seems too much of a gamble and I don't really think we can afford any of them right now.

How is Draxler any less of a gamble? The guy can't stay fit to save his life for christ's sake, with our fortune he'd never leave the hospital.

Hasn't draxler played terrible this year?

At least depay is banging in goals and assists

Draxler would be a much bigger gamble. He's done nothing for a few years and would be more expensive. Also Depay is younger so has longer to develop.

We'd get slaughtered most weeks if we played that team, a totally unproven kid and Di Maria in CM? Do you hate poor Blind? He'd be running around like a man with a bucket on a sinking ship. And the front line puts all the scoring weight on Rooney as Depay has never played in the PL and Januzaj hasn't looked like much a goal scorer so far. I am certain LvG will be looking to add physicality and power to midfield, not more lightweights.

I know you're a fan but no way Pearson is making it here. Pereira is struggling for game time and he is well ahead of him in the pecking order.

Just scored again. PSV have been down to 10 men since Jetro Willems got sent off. Sign him up already.

That's 3 in 3 since the winter break. He is having an unbelievable season. Only 20 too. I would assume we are interested with LVG in charge and we have to be in with a good shout of signing him.

Yeah, we would have good chance.

But depends on how short term vs Long term LVG is thinking.

I was a big fan of him and Blind during the WC and would like to see him here.

Surely he is an option for both. I mean it's not like he is some 16 year old kid. He will be 21 come the summer so will be old enough to make an immediate impact.
