He seems to be more interested in cool cars than football. The only good game he had with us is a Europa league match against Midtjland so it says it all really. Of course it would be nice if we include some buy back clause like Real did with Morata...

As he did vs Brugge, was decent against Arsenal and was quite good in pre season and the first few games. He has had some bright cameo's this season so far, well they werent shit let me word it like that.

I'd sell him. He's not at all what we thought he was on the evidence of his PSV form. Young is adequate backup for Martial until one of the youngsters, maybe indy Boonen, is ready.

The Express thinks Memphis is going to AC Milan this January (source). Still hope he gets a chance to prove himself, and I actually hope he doesn't go for AC Milan. They are a shit team, in a crappy league

Doesn't look good when he can't get near the squad when Mkhitaryan & Martial are both out injured. I'd imagine if a good offer came in January he'd be allowed to leave.

Sell him while he still has some value. Though if it's something ridiculous like £5-10m don't bother.

Our winger dilemma is becoming the new midfield dilemma.

And yet we still have a midfield issue.

It's fecking painful.

Thats what I was thinking. I wad hoping that Mourinho could revive him but compared to LVG he has barely given him a chance. It seems clear who Mourinho doesn't rate as they rarely even make the squad or bench. Maybe Memphis does need to change leagues to flourish, I still think he has a bright career ahead of him, even if it isn't here.

The new Ryan Babel, unfortunately.

Babel did much more for us than Depay has managed for you.

But in terms of being a big hyped talent who eventually proved to not even be a premiership level player, yep.

I think there might be a small chance that Mourinho doesn't want to drop Memphis in the team from the start, but ease him back in. Minute by minute, game by game. He's probably noticed the confidence issue, and maybe decided to take it very slow with him. Eventually we've only played 3 games outside of EPL, and he played in 2 of them (was supposed to play in all 3). He should start this Thursday, else I don't really think there's still a future here

In fairness I don't think anyone was comparing babel to a Ronaldo equivalent (Figo?) back then when Liverpool signed him. It's utterly bizarre how good depay was in Holland because he's just got no pace at all.

I just think he's been found out, same as Darmian. Lack of pace on the flanks in England isn't something you can get away with unless you're some kind of technical genius.

It's not so bizarre when you realise that a 36 year old Dirk Kuyt who had esesntially become a defensive midfielder has strolled back into Dutch football and is smashing in goals left, right and centre. This is what kind of makes it so easy to give up on Memphis as mean as it sounds.

And yet blinds been terrific for a very reasonable fee (also no pace, mind). There's obviously bargains in Holland but it's a case of separating the diamonds from the coal.

I've defended him a lot and still think he could turn out to be a very good player, but at this point I'm not going to be bothered if we sell him. He's hardly going to play for us, it's probably a waste of our and his time for him to stay another season

Absolutely but Blind is an intelligent player who's game is not at all reliant on physicality. Same with Eriksen. It's these players who will succeed. People like Depay, Kuyt and Janssen who's game is based almost purely on physical attributes are destined to fail.

Kuyt as a failure.. Are you kidding me?! Depay has a long way to go, before he reaches Kuyts level. He was not a prolific goalscorer for Liverpool, and he wasn't the greatest technician out there, but he did good for us. 51 goals, including a goal in the quarter of cl '07 against Arsenal, the winner in the semi against Chelsea, and a goal in the final. When Depay has done for you, what Kuyt did for us, you won't call him a failure. Oh, and there was also a hattrick against you along the way ;)

I think Mourinho rates him even less than Van Gaal did.

I doubt he will start..Jose seems to want to play a stronger side for this clash.

Just hasn't done anything -- barring one or two isolated games -- to suggest that he's good enough.

You signed a CF and turned him into a defensive winger because he could not get the goals and performances as a Cf as he did in Holland.
But you're right Kuyt wasn't a failure and he did well but not in the position you signed him for.

No, we settled for comparing him to a young Henry and speculating that he might be the better buy between him and Torres when he first arrived.

Babel had pace to burn though, good physique and a great shot. Utterly, utterly, brainless though. Could do some good things in straight lines with space to run it, but that was it.

Not sure I've seen a more brainless footballer with that level of talent though. Balotelli is mercurial in comparison.

I don't know. Personal wise we're not so bad now. After a bit longer when Pogba's really settled we might be looking at a different picture.

Yeah, I'm happy that Pogba will be decent, but he's more of an attacking midfielder that roams about and not much use as a classic CM, or DM which we still need. It could take just one player and maybe a winger to solve these problems. Just feels like it's been dragging on for ages now.

The "Dutch Nani" label given to him by some before he arrived has done Nani a huge, terrible disservice. Depay is absolutely woeful, I can't imagine he'll still be here next year.

Yeah, theres that. And also the fact that even stylistically they're nothing like each other. Bunch of bloody idiots that started that.

:( I thought he looked good for LVG's Netherlands and also PSV. Shame it doesn't look like it'll work out for him.

I still think he can turn it around. There's a quality player in there somewhere.

Is he really going to get the opportunity though? He's already down the pecking order, I doubt he's going to get the run of games he probably needs to kick on. Even if he does get a good run of games, he's going to have to impress a lot to remain in the team, and he could quite easily just be as ineffectual as he generally has been so far.

He's in a bit of a tricky situation right now, but he MUST perform when he gets the chance. If he plays tonight he needs an assist or goal, he's been close on occasions for us, just needs that extra bit of luck. Was Netherlands best player against France.

well who knows maybe he will be the next de Bruyne, just loan him and let him thrive there... wouldn't sell just yet.. what I know for sure is that we need to be in for a world class winger or maybe a couple so, Depay needs to really start kicking on

Not got the intelligence or the technique of De Bruyne. If you said that about somebody like Januzaj, who fares better in that regard, then maybe. Memphis never looked the part even before we signed him imo. He'll do well in a different league but this isn't the place for him i dont think.

I think it was clear I wasn't comparing them as players. They both made too big step in their earlier careers and Depay now is linked with Wolfsburg which can help him to develop to the level needed. I am not saying he can make it, there were many who failed but I think there might be some similarities in their career trajectory..
