What if he stays at Ajax?
Iirc, their DOF or someone has already said he's certain to leave this summer.

I think we have a chance but it'd have to be money that swings it which is fine or not depending on how you roll. I don't see Madrid or Bayern spending big bucks on him given their needs this summer so it'd be between Barca (who keep unearthing endless pots of cash somehow), Juve, us and City I feel. Wouldn't surprise me at all if he ended up at City.

For now it is, it will be hard for them to keep the rest of their players this summer, and you don't hire Riola as your agent if you're looking to stay at your current club...

onana and tagliafico have this month signed upgraded/extended contracts with a commitment for a guaranteed extra season after this one. Van de Beek seems likely to stay as well, considering who he is. Blind and Tadic Basically certain as well. It's De Jong already gone, De Ligt almost guaranteed to go, and then Ziyech and Neres as big questionmarks

Where do you think de Ligt goes?

Who told you? I'm also pretty sure Raiola isn't actually his agent either.

Isn't that the title of most articles? I didn't click on any links to read through... As for Raiola : random google search gives one of the following links https://www.calciomercato.com/en/ne...de-ligt-away-from-barcelona-juve-and-ma-42222 : the first sentence is "Mino Raiola is pushing his star client Matthijs de Ligt away from Barcelona".

My point remains, if his heart is set on Barca, he should go there.

would make a good headline "Utd delight at signing at De Ligt"
I'll get me coat......

I think everything everyone thought it at some point, but you wrote it so..... here's your hat and don't forget your trophy :wenger:

This kid is the absolute real deal. Interesting to see where he ends up.

Which one would you personally prefer to keep, if you had to choose?

“ Mino Raiola doesn't want Matthijs de Ligt (Ajax) to go to Barcelona, but prefers him to move to #mufc. Real Madrid also an option #mulive [abc] ”

...tactics or not, I’ll take this sort of news 10 times outta 10.

Let’s rewrite our history Mino!!:p
You're telling me Raiola gets his chance to redeem himself to the CAF now? This is gold. I'm already getting more excited about this summer than our actual previous season.

If he joins us I think it’s because we paid big bucks on Raiola & De Ligt wages and I don’t mind if we pay whatever the fees on Raiola but giving De Ligt a big fat wages at such a young age like a 200k p/w for example isn’t a good idea which something we are trying to change (what we have done so far) because we don’t want a player plays for money only.

We should have signed him up after that EL final but well our scouts were missing as usual.

Well it's quite simplistic take on the situation last time I checked he is still with Ajax, did other top teams scouts failed to do their job as well or maybe De-Ligt wasn't interested in moving at young age and prioritised his development as few others posters have alluded to as well

Yes, clubs have been chasing him since much before that but he wanted to stay at Ajax. Not sure why people think club scouting systems are like the fans here on Caf who only come to know about players once they've come up against them in a match.

I like this kid, from what I’ve seen of him he seems like the real deal. Obviously you want him here because he believes he can achieve things with United and he actually wants to play for us rather than just coming for the money, which ok is a major factor in a lot of footballers decisions, not to mention that his agent is a greedy fat cnut that you ideally don’t want to be dealing with but I really can’t get my head around posters in here actually willing these type of players to go somewhere else and avoid the club they support, it seems fecking bizarre to me.

He is not what we need now. I get it, he is brilliant and has huge potential but he is a 19 year old kid from Dutch league. Will take atleast couple of years to even start playing well and would demand close to 80m. Since we don't have unlimited budget, What we need now is a CB who can take over the complete backline . For greater goods, its ok to pass up certain young talents. Its only temporary .
Your post make lot of sense mate, our defence barring Lindelof rest of them all looks worst, so why not get two quality defenders, Toby and de Ligt, Toby in the last year of contract can be gettable at 25M who can lead the back like which you are looking at and I don't mind coughing up 80M on promising young talent de Ligt. No football team work with unlimited budget, at the same time team like United right now need to spend minimum 200M and no excuse for not spending when we needed most.So get the talent when its available.

I think there is still a chance to sign him. Yes, first choice is Barca, but they have limited budget. Ajax tends to let players go where they want to go, even when they don't get the best deal. But i guess there has to be a point where Ajax can't justify selling to the players preferred club.

Reports are Barca is willing to pay +- 60M + a couple of academy players (possibly on loan).

If United wants to have a chance they have to blow that offer out of the water.

I wonder how much of an influence would it have if we gave him the captains armband as well as the wages we can offer. We have no stand out leader on our team anyway and if it’s persuades him to join us , we should just offer it to him.
It might serve as a wake up call to some of the players we currently have.

I’d expect we’ve said to Raiola that if he brings De Ligt to Utd we’ll not stand in the way of Pogba to Madrid. I’m sure all kinds of crazy agreements go on, hence why it’s never straight forward...

We've told him we'll sign a homeless winger for £8m if he gets us De Ligt.

Wow would it!!! A teenage captain ahead of players like Herrera Young Smalling

Bloody hell it would stir things up a bit

De Ligt is keeping control over his transfer and Raiola was just hired to make the deal, not to choose the destination. So I think Raiola will use the interest of other clubs just to get a better deal for his client.

I am getting excited about this summer transfer window. I just hope that we bring in about 5 players and this will be the start of better times for us.

I would be disappointed if we didn't bring in 4/5 Players.

Not a chance we get him, as much of a dream signing as he would be. He just seems destined for Barca imo

I appreciate your positive vibe, however it seems we don’t really have a plan in place once again. No champions league won’t help our cause either. Hard to be positive these days, considering our key players are possibly leaving as well.

It does?

Like it or not we could well be seen as a very lucrative stepping stone for players like him.

Where do you think de Ligt goes?

He will go for sure in Barcelona. For sure he want to play for Barcelona alongside Messi and De Jong in the future. Riaola use Man Utd only to get a better deal for De Ligt and himself also. IMO we have zero chance to sign De Ligt this summer.

Just imagine this, if you are De Ligt right now, why do you choose Man Utd over Barcelona or Real Madrid or Juventus for example? We are in the mess right now.

Meh I wouldn't mind it at this current period, but in reality he doesn't need a stepping stone, he's already one of the best defenders in world football. Barca want him, all that talk of a relationship between Barca and ajax, de Jong just went to Barca... I'd say it's almost a guarantee he goes to Barca.

You do that and you destroy your whole team before the season ends. The coach and the player lose all respect. You can not give an armband to a kid who just joined a team has not even proved himself on that team, has not been to war for that team, has no games or experience under that team, and knows none of his teammates.

Your team chemistry would go out the window.

You seem to hint there is a plan in place in regards to our transfer plans, tell me more.

Was more a case of my hinting, or more questioning the validity that there appears to be ‘no plan’ in place. I mean, given that for every club, every where, you would imagine they have a plan for the summer window at this stage of the season, and I would have thought there would be some particular information that suggests United, or any other club, doesn’t have a plan at this stage.

Half of the team have attitude problems anyway doubt it’ll make a difference to those.

Do you remember last summer? Would you describe that as a plan? We are arguably one of the worst run football clubs in the world right now. I wouldn't disregard the notion of not having a plan in place, we are genuinely clueless at the moment. Still we have no DOF in place might I remind you.
