I can definitely see him taking Lenglet's place and Pique is getting old as well. Honestly with the raw talent he has he would walk into any team in the world. For his age he looks as mature in his play as a 27 year old. He would definitely start over Lenglet.
Barca are really committed to have a Left Footed CB at LCB. Which is why they signed the likes of Mathieu and Vermaleen in the past.

I think if Barca were in for him they would have signed him and announced him same time as De Jong, especially when half of Europe sniffing around, same goes for Bayern, both teams like to get their transfers early and announce them as soon as they can. Raiola will either hawk him around or the silence could well mean we have the inside track on him. That or He has agreed somewhere else.

De Ligt won't be announced this early, considering Ajax is deep in the CL.
Why is De Jong already announced then?
Frenkie de Jong was very close to a move to PSG which caused Barcelona to act quickly. Different situation with De Ligt who has said his focus is on the Ajax season and the rest will come after.
They got the deal done before the CL KO games and announced him before that so he could focus on the rest of the Ajax season. The Dutch eredivisie had about a month winter break, that's when the De Jong deal happened basically, announced shortly after.

De Ligt is two-footed to be fair.
LVG would've persuaded him to come to us if he was still the manager. Pity he was in charge at a time when the Dutch were in transition and we were getting linked to Clasie, De Vrij, Bruno Indi etc
Doubt we would win the europa league that season with him in charge but he would have gone for de ligt after that match. Whilst it probably would not happen; he might have been first on de jong as well - though he looks like Barca DNA for a long time now.
Would be a very good signing for us. He is a good defender and his better years are yet to come. But the most improtant thing is that he is a leader. We have missed that soo much in the back over the last 6-7 years!
Don't fall for the Umtiti trap. His knee has been completely destroyed. He'd become our Owen Hargreaves mark II.

Virgil Van Dyke escaped the clutches of Ajax and PSV in Holland, nevermind LVG. He also wasn't as hyped De Ligt is at 19.
Van Gaal would've gone for De Ligt because he was a teenage Dutch talent. And Van Gaal preferred working with youngsters.
The impression I get from the club is that he is major league talent and one they expect is good enough to become a first team regular for us.
De Ligt is an interesting one. Part of me thinks we really need to stop overpaying for players (particularly ones that might not have their heart set on joining) like Di Maria, Schweinsteiger and Sanchez but we need to throw money at this kid/Raiola to get him. 19, captain material and already effectively world-class. Besides, he very much appears to have a level head on his shoulders.

This kid is worth paying Raiola and holding onto Pogba, that's how good he is. I hope we get Rio as DoF as he will go all out for him and Sancho.
I hope Rio or Edwin become DOF and that Ed is kept away from the football side. I also hope that De Gea is sold to PSG or Atletico with us getting players + cash in return. If he goes to Atleti, Partey + £20m or even better, Oblak, Griezmann or Gimenez in a straight swap.
If he goes to PSG, maybe request Marquinhos, Meunier and Areola in return. Also try and get Rabiot on a free. Another player we need is Carrasco. There are loads of affordable players out there, just need someone like Rio or Edwin in charge of signings

I'm not talking about him when he moved from Holland, I'm sure Ajax or PSV would have been aware of him when he moved moved from Celtic to Southampton, a certain Van Gaal bought Rojo instead of Van Dijk in 2015 for more money as well. And we all remember the fiasco about the LCB must be left footed nonsense.
I agree he wasn't as hyped but I'm sure football managers and scouts don't choose to buy players based on hype, instead they should do their homework. Vaj Dijk was Dutch and pretty promising yet LVG didn't go for him and he is now captain of his national team.

I often hear that Scholes son is one of the 'don't you know who I am' types...got a reputation in the local area for being a bit of a knob! He's just been convicted for assault recently in Uppermill.
Why on Earth would At. Madrid be interested in De Gea? They have Oblak who is just as good if not better.

Rojo played well for Argentina in the world cup and was the reason LVG signed him. He didn't cost much and should've been moved on a long time ago now. Him stilll being at the club isn't LVG's fault.
The point is, that under LVG we would've stood a better than of signing De Ligt, because LVG would've known all about him due to him being at Ajax where Van Gaal knows the Ajax hierarchy including his former players Overmars and Vds very well.
And that is something that makes the whole thing even worse. Hindsight might is a wonderful thing but for someone who you said would lure Dutch talent he missed the best talent, and Vaj Dijk was well know even before he moved from Scotland. I remember reading posters on here mentioning him as a supposed transfer target regularly on here.
Rojo was shit from day one and buying players based on tournament is most often a bad idea. He cost 20m euros and in addition we paid Nani's salaries for a season. Even more tragic I think he opted for Rojo simply because he was left footed, it tells you what a moron that guy was.

It's incredible that certain people just look like wankers - no disrespect to Scholes' son but he's just got that face.
This is correct, he made it pretty clear he wanted to continue his development at Ajax for a while back then. Money is nice, but when you're such a big talent, you know the big money will come eventually.
